  7. Another Andrew Hill from 1964, the classic “Point of Departure” Blue Note cd Japan UCCQ-9168
  8. Andrew Hill “Andrew!!!” Blue Note Japan SHM-CD UCCQ-5115 An intriguing 1964 release that rewards repeated spins.
  9. Well I was taking a broader view than this puff piece I suppose. These persons I am referencing can speak happily of their love of jazz. . . but that doesn't erase dangerous loneliness. artistic career frustration, family issues (some induced by conflicts of political and religious ideologies), problems with substance abuse et al that are making them non-happy persons. Jazz won't save you from many unhappinesses even if it can be a salve or temporary release or escape.
  10. Our (now probably not) forum member Shawn had a cat named Pyewacket who has passed on now. She was a one person cat! Not nice to others. I had a cat named Marjorie Bouvier Haggerty Armstrong who we got as a kitten and lived to be over 18 years. Now I'm a dog person . . . they're more trouble, but worth the effort.
  11. Looks as if it's going to be an amazing set.

  13. Grant Green "Alive!’ Blue Note Japan UHQCD.
  14. Many are living challenging lives and overall not happy. Has nothing to do with jazz as music per se.
  15. Grant Green “Carryin’ On” Blue Note Japan UCCQ-9518 cd Groovy '69 Green.
  16. One more episode to go of "Invasion" Season 2 (Apple). Then on to "Foundation" Season 2.
  17. Julian Priester/Sam Rivers “Hints on Light and Shadow” Postcards cd This one I spied on the shelf and have not played in quite some time. Not my usual fare, but making for an interesting listen this morning. Followed by Milt Jackson “Plenty, Plenty Soul” Atlantic cd All star early stereo sessions. All but one are Jackson compositions. The ringer is by Cannonball. 768×768 93.4 KB
  18. It's amazing what polls can "uncover." That has hardly been my experience among the jazz fans I know.
  19. Booker Ervin “Freedom Book” Prestige/RVG Edition Japan
  20. (Dr.) Lonnie Smith “Gotcha” Groove Merchant/Solid Records cd Japan That sort of “Stuff” (the band)/CTI/KUDU not quite disco sound. Some really nice guitar bass and Lonnie Smith sounds.
  21. A few compilations of material I already have were in a lot of Carmen McRae cds I bought from eBay (cheap). This one really does sound good and is nicely selected and sequenced.
