  1. Dexter Gordon “Live at the Amsterdam Paradiso Vol.2” Solid Records Japan cd Starts off with Monk’s “Rhythm-a-ning” which I always hear starting off with the lines from the song: Put another nickel in the nickelodeon. As a kid my Dad always sang that song to us!
  2. https://insheepsclothinghifi.com/miles-davis-on-the-corner/ Reading the article above prompted me to put it on. This is not like anything else really. A lot of history with this one, including having a work partner for a few years in the early 'eighties that was the first person I met who REALLY knew and liked this piece! Miles Davis “On the Corner” Mobile Fidelity SACD
  3. Starting the day off with some live Lockjaw–what a unique and spirited player! Horace Parlan is on piano here and Alvin Queen is on drums. Drummer and jazz character Danny D’Imperio alerted me about 20 years ago to Alvin Queen and his drumming skills–and high taste level. Eddie Lockjaw Davis “Jaw’s Blues” Enja/Solid Records Japan cd
  4. Jimmy McGriff “The Main Squeeze” Groove Merchant/Solid Records Japan cd Jimmy with Jimmy Ponder, Conrad Lester and Eddie Gladden. I’m a big Jimmy Ponder fan and he makes this session for me. Though the leader is delivering as well. And the engineering! Great job by Malcolm Addey.
  5. As I see it it depends how much of a Joe Henderson fan you are, and also what type of collector you are. I'll buy it if it shows up via amazon.com or dustygroove.com etc.
  6. Abdullah Ibrahim & Ekaya “African River” Enja/Solid Records Japan cd Nice larger ensemble arrangements.
  7. It's a combo of Wallington album on Progressive first then Prestige, plus extra alternate material from this live date, and as a bonus the Blue Note 10", '54 and '55 https://www.discogs.com/release/10201534-George-Wallington-Quintet-With-Donald-Byrd-Jackie-McLean-Complete-Live-At-The-Café-Bohemia
  8. Abdullah Ibrahim Trio “Yarona” Enja/Solid Records Japan cd 599×590 57.8 KB Wow, this is perfect for the chill drizzling autumn morning we have.
  9. Anthony Braxton Quartet “Standards 2020” disc 11 600×567 55.7 KB
  10. Anthony Braxton Quartet “Standards 2020” disc 10 Alto Saxophone, Soprano Saxophone, Sopranino Saxophone – Anthony Braxton Bass – Neil Charles Drums – Stephen Davis Piano – Alexander Hawkins Producer – Anthony Braxton A lot of interesting interpretations in this set. 600×567 55.7 KB
  11. Something keeps drawing me back to Immanuel Wilkins and his sound and writing. His sound reminds me of both Paul Desmond and James Spaulding and his writing is within the tradition and also fresh. Immanuel Wilkins “Omega” Blue Note cd
  12. Part of the big box of cds from cdjapan I received this week. I’ve never heard this one before and I like it. JR Monterose “Is Alive in Amsterdam Paradiso” Solid Records Japan cd Bass – Jan Jacobs Congas – Steve Boston Drums – Han Bennink Tenor Saxophone – J.R. Monterose Timbales – Groentjie 1000×1000 117 KB
  13. Lee Morgan “Caramba!” Blue Note/Tone Poet LP This was one of the “Free” Lps from that “sale” this summer. Free, with 8 dollars postage. Good price.
  14. Cold S. Pelligrino in a tall frosted glass. AH!
  15. I really like this one–like all Mario Adnet’s work to be honest. Here he is re-arranging and re-visiting pieces by Villa Lobos with “an ear towards” how Antonio Carlos Jobim was influenced by the composer. As always the sound on this Adventure Music cd is excellent. Mario Adnet: Um Olhar Sobre Villa-Lobos
  16. Jimmy McGriff “Tail Gunner” Groove Merchant/Solid Records Japan cd Sort of funky disco in a “Stuff” (the Band) sort of way, with a big band backing. First time I’m hearing it but it’s sitting well today.
  17. Dexter Gordon “Night Ballads, Montreal 1977” Uptown cd Someone was asking about this on the Hoffman board days ago and so I found it in the shelves. Sound is okay, and Dexter playing ballads is always a great listen. Early morning here is a little like night, or as close to it as I usually can get in listening time. The mood is right.
  18. Miles Davis “Big Fun” Columbia 2-LP, Side A, “Great Expectations” Lucy got a call that will take a spell so I’m slipping this in, my OG vinyl copy that still sounds great. I was fascinated with these 2 LPs for years after their release–grabbed this as soon as it was out. Just such a fusion of all that was going on in the music around me at the time.
  19. Paul Desmond “Bridge Over Troubled Waters” A&M/Verve cd This one has grown on me over the years. I hear a bit of distortion on this "Verve Original" transfer at times. I may try another pressing one of these days. Also, like many "Verve Originals" this sounds better with the Phase "Reversed" on my DAC.
  20. Keith Jarrett/Gary Peacock/Jack DeJohnette “Bye Bye Blackbird” ECM cd
  21. Moved my phono preamp and turntable power supply onto a PS Audio PowerBase and am spinning this to see if all is set up correctly. It is. And it sounds GREAT. “Duke Ellington Jazz Party” Columbia mono LP.
  22. Ben Webster “Live at Stampen, Stockholm” Storyville/Solid Records Japan cd Live 1969-1973 recordings. Ben plays well, ably supported. Bass – Red Mitchell, or Sture Nordin Drums – Ed Thigpen, or Frederik Noren Piano – Lasse Sjösten or Teddy Wilson Tenor Saxophone – Ben Webster Trumpet – Arne Ryskog, or Roffe Ericson
  23. Perhaps my favorite of her albums. Sathima Bea Benjamin “Love Light” Enja/Solid Records Japan cd Bass – Buster Williams Drums, Talking Drum – Billy Higgins Engineer – Rudy Van Gelder Piano – Larry Willis Tenor Saxophone – Ricky Ford Vocals, Arranged By, Producer – Sathima Bea Benjamin
  24. Dollar Brand (Abdullah Ibrahim) “Zimbabwe” Enja/Solid Records Japan cd This one has the leader on both piano and soprano saxophone. A good thing. Bass – Essiet Okun Essiet Drums – Don Mumford Flute, Alto Saxophone – Carlos Ward Soprano Saxophone, Piano – Dollar Brand
