  1. Carmen Lundy “Come Home” Afrasia Productions cd Up early with Fiona the dachshund. Sigh. Great sound on this cd though compensates.
  2. As I sometimes do I followed "Something Blue" with Miles Davis "Kind of Blue." There is so much too this recording, so many times it reveals something new. This time through I was struck by an aspect of the engineering--how whenever one of the horns solos the entrance is boosted, exciting and attention grabbing. Especially Miles--his entrances are so projecting and tonally full. The engineering also reveals how integral I think to the album was Paul's bass playing. He was such a master, especially during this year imo. This time I'm listening to Sony SRCS 9104.
  3. Paul Horn “Something Blue” HiFi Jazz, HDTT cdr
  4. Miles Davis “Porgy and Bess” Columbia, HDTT cdr
  5. There's a cd edition released at this time as well.
  6. Andrew Hill “Compulsion” Blue Note, HDTT cdr
  7. Miles Davis "Volume 1" Blue Note Japan 85th Anniversary UHQCD Includes 3 alternates.
  8. I would buy Tone Poets of LPs from the first fifteen years of Blue Note--that is where the new transfers and mastering would be most interesting to me.
  9. Bobby Hutcherson “Mirage” Landmark cd A great quartet date from '91 with Tommy Flanagan, Peter Washington and Billy Drummond.
  10. Jon Irabagon “Behind the Sky” An interesting quintet date featuring Tom Harrell. I have become quite amazed at how Harrell can fit into so many configurations of jazz. It’s cold enough up here this morning. . . but this cover picture made me put on a sweater.
  11. Bennie Green “Soul Stirrin’” Blue Note 599×588 89.9 KB From this set:
  12. That shirt looks familiar. Nice pics.
  13. Lee Morgan "Complete Live at the Lighthouse" Blue Note Japan UHQCD box set, disc 7
  14. Yes, Freddie Waits. He and Mickey Roker should get more "love." Right now. . . on to. . .Something more. . . avant-garde. Abthony Williams “Spring” Blue Note Japan 85th Anniversary UHQCD Sounds great. I briefly compared it to the Japanese Blue Note 24 Bit by RVG LP facsimile cd, and that also sounds great, no clear winner for me in my system. Both are keepers.
  15. I'd like to see a Ricky Ford set. .. Muse . . . plus?
  16. Finally spinning this one. Overall the sound is a bit inconsistent and could be better. But the music is not going to disappoint (or at least did not disappoint me!) 700×700 121 KB Wes Montgomery “Maximum Swing: The Unissued 1965 Half Note Recordings” Resonance Records, cd 1
  17. Peter Appleyard and the Jazz Giants “The Lost 1974 Sessions” Saw this, thought it would be good and boy is it.
  18. Yes, you're right. She was born in Mocambique, in Lourenco Marques, a city I know as we would vacation there when we lived in Swaziland. Then as a child moved to Lisbon. I think I was confused because this album was recorded in Brazil and the only other one that I have of hers was arranged and heavily partcipated within by Brazilian master cellist Jacques Morelenbaum.
  19. Brazilian fado singer Mariza, “Transparente”
  20. McCoy Tyner “Time for Tyner” Blue Note Japan 85th Anniversary UHQCD 599×597 173 KB
  21. Eddie Higgins “Speaking of Jobim” Sunnyside cd
  22. What bugs me most is the cost. . . which drives the releases I bet, in the form of profit. I could be wrong. I just won't pay that much . . . I like LPs but if I can get three or four cds for the cost of an LP. . . I will. Maybe this will come out on cd one day, I'd like to see what improvement may have been made over the bootlegs.
  23. Gato Barbieri “Latino America” Impulse 2 cd set, disc 1
