  1. Andrew Hill “Lift Every Voice” Blue Note Japan cd I’ve grown to really love this one. This cd has the original 1969 session and a previously unreleased session from 1970. 300×300 7.4 KB
  2. Starting off a warm morning with the lovely sound of Ruby Braff & His Buddies “Controlled Nonchalance: Live at the Regatta Bar (Vol. 1)” Arbors Jazz cd A very nice way to greet the new day.
  3. I feel proud and happy that I was a part of Victor and Chris Albertson re-connecting after decades . . . they were friends from their youth and had long been out of touch. Victor was a very nice man, a true jazz fan, and a generous spirit. I wish his family all the best.
  4. I learned from Victor Christensen's son that he has passed at the age of 89. RIP Victor, a friend via email and facebook and jazz forums.
  5. Blue Mitchell “Down with It” Blue Note 85th Anniversary UHQCD Japan

  9. Charles Kynard “Legends of Acid Jazz” Prestige cd Reissues:
  10. Diana Panton “Red” Fab Records cd Japan A very pretty, soothing album.
  11. Tim Warfield “Spherical–Dedicated to Thelonious Sphere Monk” Criss Cross cd This is a great cd–clearly “Monk” but freshly arranged. And great engineering!
  12. J&K “Stone Bone” A&M/CTI LP (RSD release) I like this one the more I play it!
  13. A stuffy morning! Looking forward to the final day of in-laws visiting from Austin. Starting off with. . . Barney Wilen “Zodiac” reissue LP
  14. I’m listening to session takes of “American Beauty” via the Grateful Dead “Angel’s Share” release. The fidelity of the sound is really amazing, especially the vocal tracks, which are generally more recessed than this in releases. However. . . the singing is often cringeworthy. . . .
  15. I love Miles' playing pretty much throughout his leader years. . . its evolution is clear but at every stage it's very enjoyable. I think my favorite solo is from "In a Silent Way". . . .
  16. So nice to finally have an SACD version of this release crucial to my listening world. John Coltrane “Crescent” Japan Universal SHM-SACD Sound is excellent; my now favorite digital version.
  17. Starting off late this morning with “At Barloyd’s” a nine cd set of piano music recorded in a Parisian apartment. This disc is the one by Franck Amsallem.
  18. “The Complete Fingers Remember Mingus” Jazz in Britain 3 cd set, disc 1 400×400 37.5 KB Followed by “The Next Generation Performs Charles Mingus Brand New Compositions” Columbia cd 300×300 8.67 KB I forgot how good this one is! Bass – Ray Drummond Drums – Marvin “Smitty” Smith, Victor Lewis Flute, Tenor Saxophone – Craig Handy Piano – Benny Green, John Hicks Piccolo Flute, Clarinet, Soprano Saxophone, Tenor Saxophone – Alex Foster Producer – Delfeayo Marsalis, Sue Mingus Tenor Saxophone – George Adams Trumpet – Jack Walrath Vocals – Charles Mingus, Eric Mingus Written-By – Charles Mingus
  19. “Ellington Jazz Party in Stereo” Columbia CSP stereo LP Well, I picked up a well-priced stereo copy of this album, which I just have in an original pressing in Mono; the stereo LP I have is one of those digitally remastered “CBS Jazz Masterpieces” versions. This one is a 'seventies “Collector’s Series Pressing” releases so not a 'fifties original BUT it sounds really good and is very clean. Sounds better than the Jazz Masterpieces pressing. I LOVE THIS MUSIC!
  20. 480×477 73.2 KB “Blows Against the Empire” RCA/Legacy cd I wish Mobile Fidelity would do an SACD of this. . . none of the cd versions I have heard really match the sound and feel of the OG LP I have, which is pretty noisey I’m afraid. Still remember my fascination with this music in the 'Seventies.
