  1. “Eddie Condon 1944 Jam Sessions” Jazzology 2 LP set I wanted to hear some Pee Wee Russell, and this is a good way to do so. . . . What a band! Baritone Saxophone – Ernie Caceres Bass – Bob Casey, Bob Haggart Clarinet – Pee Wee Russell Drums – George Wettling Piano – Gene Schroeder, Joe Bushkin Trombone – Jack Teagarden, Wilbur De Paris Trumpet – Billy Butterfield, Bobby Hackett, Max Kaminsky Vocals – Jack Teagarden, Lee Wiley, Red McKenzie
  2. Steve Lehman Octet "Travail, Transformation and Flow"
  3. I’m continuing on with another well-recorded mono from the 'fifties, Jack Teagarden “Shades of Night” Capitol LP mono. Sure am glad to have a mono button on my phono preamp! What a beautiful trombone sound Jackson had!
  4. Again, Duke Ellington “Indigos” mono Columbia LP A bit of snap and crackle here and there on this copy but man the sound. . . I love both the stereo and mono on this one. (And there are multiple differences between the two).
  5. The Dyson XLR have sold. Thanks!
  6. A favorite in splendid Columbia LP sound! Duke Ellington “Indigos” Columbia mono LP
  7. This LP again. Sounds nice. . . the upcoming cd should as well. Followed by Record 1 Alice Coltrane “Turiya Sings” And now Bob Dylan “Planet Waves” Asylum Records LP 600×600 127 KB
  8. As you may have discovered amazon.com has it.
  9. Hardly essential, but fun for Ellington nuts. Crown Project “Ultimate Ellington”
  10. Dave Douglas “Live at the Jazz Standard” disc 2
  11. I think I have six versions of this, the OG LP I bought back in the early 'seventies, and five different digital versions, and decided today to listen to the version in the Complete Columbia Albums box set. Miles Davis "In a Silent Way"
  12. A lot hinges on "what is jazz?" That's a question I keep answering, differently at times.
  13. I know it when I hear it. Most of my favorites are also instrumentalists. . . it's not a requirement, it just tends to turn out that way.
  14. I bought one last week. I think this might be one of the best Tapscotts.
  15. I finally finished Richard Koloda's bio of Albert Ayler. It was slow going til the final third. And ultimately, it's not Koloda's fault, it's unsatisfying how little is known of Ayler's final months and how much speculation without clear facts there is about his passing. Next . . . I think I might re-read a B. Cool and Lam novel by A. A. Fair (Erle Stanley Gardner). They're fun. I need fun.
  16. Yes, I also have all the material in a double cd from Japan of the RVG transfers, which I think sounds great. Love this music.
  17. All the talk on another board of Erroll Garner made me reach for this from the shelves, his earliest recordings recorded at Timme Rosenkrantz's apartment and later released by Bllue Note. I wonder what his twin brother Ernest. I do know his older brother Linton preceded him as a piano performer in Pittsburgh. Erroll Garner “1944” Chronogical Classics cd.
  18. Kenny Dorham “Midnight at the Cafe Bohemia” Blue Note Japan Platinum SHM-CD. All of those in this series sound so good!
  19. As the current expected big snowfall begins, a little warm music with the wonderful voice of Paula Morelenbaum featured. BossReNova “Atlantica” cd
  20. A very different Coltrane recording! I find this 2 LP or 1 cd set to be fascinating, and calming. Alice Coltrane “Kirtan: Turiya Sings” Impulse! 2 LP set, record 2
  21. John Coltrane “My Favorite Things” Atlantic 60th Anniversary reissue Stereo LP Both the stereo and mono LP in this reissue package sound great. Stereo is spinning today and I think my new/used phono preamp is finally “broken (back) in” and this playback is sounding great.
  22. Forgot how good this one is. . . both musically and engineering wise. Dynamic and clear live recording. Dave Douglas Quintet "Live at the Jazz Standard" disc 1
  23. The Analysis Plus cables have sold. Thanks.
  24. Carmen McRae "Blue Moon" Decca/Verve cd
  25. It’s going to be a Carmen day. Carmen McRae “It Takes a Whole Lot of Human Feeling” Groove Merchant LP Great band with Carmen here, grooving along nicely. Carmen McRae − vocals Joe Pass − guitar Dick Shreve − piano Ray Brown - bass Larry Bunker − vibraphone, percussion Frank Severino − drums Uncredited additional musicians on some tracks.
