  1. Duke Ellington “Jazz at the Plaza” Columbia LP I haven’t heard this in too long.
  2. Cal Tjader/Carmen McRae "Heat Wave" Concord cd
  3. This one again. Lovely.
  4. Carmen McRae “Sarah: Dedicated to You” Carmen was at her final peak and the sound of this album . … I just love to hear it. And wow, Shirley Horn is really playing.
  5. I love so many Kirk recordings . . . but this one always floors me.
  6. Hermeto Pascoal “Hermeto” Muse LP A fascinating LP! I believe this is soon to be reissued on both LP and cd.
  7. John Coltrane “Crescent” Impulse reissue LP A desert island recording for me.
  8. The two Monterey Jazz Festival discs (Monk, Giants of Jazz) are official releases and in excellent sound.
  9. Jimmy Knepper “Idol of the Flies” Bethlehem LP 640×640 53 KB Bill Evans as sideman. I usually listen to this on cd, but I’m spinning records today and wanted to hear it on LP. Here’s the original cover, this is a 'seventies reissue LP.
  10. Live In New York Vol. 1 I am pretty sure I have as one of the Monk Family cds, and it's a great set performance. . .sound is okay. Thelonious TMF9323 is another Monk Family release and the sound and picture are very good. Live in Amsterdam, May 1961 purports to be a legal release and has excellent sound, great performance.
  11. Duke Ellington “70th Birthday Concert” Solid State 2 LP set, LP 1
  12. You know. . . you can't go wrong except sonically with any of them. But the one that sounds the very best and may be the best one to buy is the Vogue (plus) material reissued on Piano Solo : The Centennial Edition - Paris 1954. Great music, great sound--and an official release.
  13. Miles Davis “Big Fun” Columbia 2 LP set My phono playback is back in action. . . playing the original 2 LP copy I bought in '74. “Ife” followed by “Great Expectations.” This material was a real ear-opener to me at the time and was one of four or five Miles Davis releases that led me down the jazz rabbit hole I have been following ever since.
  14. George Benson “Beyond the Blue Horizon” CTI/Mosaic Contemporary cd

  18. Virginia Mayhew “Mary Lou Williams – The Next 100 Years” This is a great disc honoring Mary Lou Williams.
  19. David Gilmore “Transitions” Criss Cross cd with Mark Shim.
  20. I've heard a Classics of hers that is okay, not as enthralling as the Debut material, which is in storage and hasn't been heard in years. .. but this set shows it has Big Sid, Barksdale and Caceres in sessions. . . those three guys are always worth a listen. Looking at discogs one session has Red Callender and Lee Young, which I would be interested in hearing. I'm not as fond of Acrobat as you are but I may go for it.
  21. It's on Acrobat. A "gray market" label.
  22. It's amazing that this price has been steady at $27 for so long. It's a great set imo.
  23. That's a great set.
  24. I kept checking it out on discogs and one time a seller in Japan had it for about 100 including shipping (just before COVID made deliveries and rates so high). I was surprised to get it and to have it be pristine.
