  1. Trijntje Oosterhuis Featuring The Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra “Sundays In New York” Blue Note cd
  2. No they don't. Part of what puts people off jazz is this sort of thing that certain of it ought to be protected, enshrined.
  3. Mosaic has every right to do whatever set they wish and not to do any set they wish not to, and don't "owe" you anything. And that set sold well for them. Which allowed them to produce other sets.
  4. And by 2047 most of those 800 plus releases will be out in the new vinyl series!
  5. In 1957 when recorded it was I think less esoteric. The public was used to singing groups albeit not with the invention and expertise of these three all together. And there were The Blue Stars that Blossom Dearie had a hand in birthing that were known by jazz persons. Each of the three in this trio had a pedigree of experience and enthusiasm and some reknown and togethter they were really something new and exciting.
  6. Flora Purim “If You Will”
  7. Lambert, Hendricks & Ross “Sing a Song of Basie” ABC Paramount/Verve cd 860×860 195 KB Quite an innovative album in 1958 and still great fun.
  8. Vijay Iyer Sextet “Far From Over” ECM cd 800×800 86.7 KB
  9. Miles Davis “Kind of Blue” PureFlection 32-bit UltraHD cd.
  10. I think it's an acceptable excuse for a record company existing on a day to day basis and trying to stay alive. If only the Smithsonian or some governmental historical agency could be tasked with this sort of thing. But chances of that are even more slim than a record company undertaking it in this . . . I was going to start typing things this forum is not zoned for and I bet you can guess.
  11. I had a brief exchange with Michael Cuscuna about this recently regarding another signer, Joe Williams and his Roulette material. Here is what Michael stated: I was researching Joe Williams Roulette box long ago when I was in charge of doing the Roulette catalog through Blue Note. But the Sarah Vaughn and Dinah Washington sets did poorly and I lost my nerve. The vocal sets take a lot more research and studio time to get them right. Sometimes, things are tracked and the vocal is overdubbed later and you have to start A/Bing all the released records to make sure you’ve got the right one. Half the unissued material is tracks only with no vocal added yet. And on and on.
  12. Now that's more like it as far as arrangements go. Trijntje Oosterhuis Live With Amsterdam Sinfonietta And The Houdini’s “Strange Fruit” Blue Note cd
  13. 1m Billy Eckstine “Once More with Feeling” Roulette Records cd Not my favorite Billy (I’m not that big a fan of Billy May. . . ) but the system is sounding so good, and with talk of Billy on the forum I wanted to hear that baritone.
  14. Some rather modern jazz to start the day. Steve Lehman Octet “Mise en Abime” – I bought this because Mark Shim is one of the Octet.
  15. Yes, MIles in Espanol is a release produced by Bob Belden long after Miles passed. https://www.discogs.com/release/3551662-Various-Miles-Español-New-Sketches-Of-Spain I believe that the Powell disc I have may have been speed-corrected. And I find no problem moving from one disc to another, don't get stuck in a mood.
  16. SOLD! Thanks
  17. “Bud Powell Trio,” Royal Roost/TOCJ Japan lp facsimile cd 800×800 62.9 KB followed by “Miles Davis Espanol: New Sketches of spain” disc 2
  18. Don Wilkerson “Preach Brother!” Blue Note/Culture Factory LP facsimile cd
  19. Sonny Rollins “A Night at the Village Vanguard” (Complete, 2 cd set) 24 Bit by RVG Japan, disc 1 Needed the sound of Sonny today.
  20. Kenny Dorham "Whistle Stop" Blue Note Japan 24bit by RVG cd A few years ago I made my Blue Note recordings harder to find (almost all my collection is in bookcases where I have four rows of cds, two behind and two in front, so the Blue Note were put in rows behind others) as I was playing them so often, but now it's time to listen to more Blue Notes, especially the 24bit by RVG series from Japan, so I moved those to front rows of a book case. Kenny and Hank are always a good combo! Add Philly Joe and you have a hard bop showcase.
  21. Dave Douglas “Stargazer” Arabesque Records cd “Honoring the music of Wayne Shorter”–six originals and three Shorter compositions. I have probably not heard this since I left Texas. It’s a good one. Bass – James Genus Drums – Joey Baron Piano – Uri Caine Tenor Saxophone, Clarinet – Chris Speed Trombone – Joshua Roseman Trumpet, Producer, Arranged By, Mixed By – Dave Douglas
  22. The last time I heard anyone utter "statuesque" a coworker was describing his new girlfriend who worked in another division of our agency. As soon as he said "statuesque" I knew what he was talking about. She was. This was 2008.
  23. Someone should get the Sanders, a bargain.
