Immanuel Wilkins “The 7th Hand” Blue Note cd An excellent disc in every way.

I have no experience with the LP set as I rarely pick up modern LP releases, and generally ignore any LPs on Record Store Day. "Exclusive" to any release from a record company seems to just mean "right now this is the only place to get it." A day later it may be a different story! The timings are different on those two tracks between LPs and cd, but without comparing those could be for extraneous reasons. Anyway, I really enjoy the two cd set.

It took me a while to get around to the ECM titles of Dave Holland. I heard a few when they were first released and they just didn’t click with me, but the past few years I realize how vital and interesting they are. This one I like a lot! Dave Holland Quintet “Extended Play: Live at Birdland” ECM 2 cd set, disc 1 Chris Potter – soprano, alto and tenor saxophones Robin Eubanks – trombone Steve Nelson – vibraphone, marimba Billy Kilson – drums Dave Holland – double-bass Dave Holland Quintet recorded at the Birdland jazz club over four days in November 2001 and released by ECM in 2003 40

Solid Records Japan has released a lot of these on cd in the last few years. Good titles in good sound.

I listened to the Stereo LP of “My Favorite Things” in the mono/stereo 2 LP package. It has taken me a long time over many years and many spins on cd, SACD and LP to really appreciate the disciplined focus of this album, and why it was a success and why it is a landmark release and was so responsible for Coltrane’s stardom. Now on to Ahmad Jamal “Emerald City Nights (Live At The Penthouse 1966-1968)” Elemental Music cd 2

Starting off a little warmer morning with a great cd. . . Tom Harrell “Alternate Summer” HighNote This reminds me a bit of “Filles de Kilimanjaro” and “Miles in the Sky”. . .which is high praise from me.
