Warm, stuffy. . .slept okay. Man the system sound great! A new tube is settling in nicely.
Starting off with the album that made me realize the mastery of Joel Ross and Immanuel Wilkins. Music that draws me in from the first vibraphone notes.
Joel Ross “Kingmaker” Blue Note cd
Something different than Ms Walter's. . . and an album I've played for five decades now and I will NEVER tire of.
The title tune is one for the ages! The sound of this record was a revelation when it was new.
Rahsaan Roland Kirk "Volunteered Slavery" Rhino cd
Henry Red Allen and His Orchestra “1936-1937”
More Allen with his singing reminiscent of both Louis Armstrong, but with the vibrato phrasing of Louie Prima. And some hot trumpet!
Horace Silver Quintet “Silver’s Serenade” Blue Note Japan 85th Anniversary UHQCD
Almost every time I play a Silver cd I think “This might be my favorite.”
Well this might be my favorite (until I spin another).
Decided to continue revisiting Kirk–the man was a fascinating artist til the end. This is one of his final three, when he moved to Warner Bros. His tenor sound is beautiful on some of these tracks!
Rahsaan Roland Kirk “The Return Of The 5000 Lb. Man” 32 Jazz cd
Henry “Red” Allen and His Orchestra “1937-1941” Chronogical Classics cd
Some novelty tunes that come across as perhaps Louie Prima influenced, but some great trumpet!

“Miles in France – Miles Davis Quintet 1963/64: The Bootleg Series, Vol. 8” disc 1
What a great set–I especially enjoy the George Coleman dates which are in better sound here than I have had them before.
Starting off a warm morning with a Canadian singer I have three discs of. . .she reminds me of Blossom Dearie more than a bit, that’s a good thing. She always has nice players supporting her.
Diana Panton “Pink” Fab/Muzak Japann cd
On to another disc from the “Enjoying the Ride” sixtieth anniversary Grateful Dead box set, Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum, Uniondale, NY (3/16/73), disc 3
I was in the mood for a “Dark Star” and this one hits the spot.
Continuing the “heartbeat jazz” pace with this album that I didn’t know existed until last week, and glad I found it. Ballads associated with Trane, sung supported only by piano and bass. Sweet.

Adonis Rose Trio + One “For All We Know” Storyville cd
The “+ One” is the lovely Gabrielle Cavassa. This is certainly a nice and gentle way to begin another hot day. This could definitely be marketed as a Cavassa album. The trio supports her quite ably, and the recording is very balanced.
