Well, I know to skip that Raeburn period now. There is so much to listen to and diminishing time that I guess those of us in this situation have to be more selective. I'm torn between being open and being. . . selective, often. After a lot of Afro-Cuban hammering I wanted something very different. This came in the mail yesterday: "The Complete Bach Cello Suites" Zuill Bailey, SACD 1 of 2. Octave Records (PS Audio audiophile label) Very nice sound. Fiona the dachshund seems to like it.

Sometimes this happens. I keep certain things because sometimes this happens.

Johnny Richards "Mosaic Select" disc 2 Which includes "Experiments in Sound" and Every time I play something from this selection I hope I really, really, really get into the music. Hasn't happened yet, bu maybe one day. At least it seems each time my system is better and the music sounds better.

Well, speaking broadly of all the Verves, certainly these with Clark are excellent: Jazz Tones In A Mellow Tone Odalisque Autumn Leaves Cooking The Blues Sweet and Lovely I have the Mosaic set in each format (have tried to sell the LP but I guess I'm fated to keep it) and this is great music, and the individual Japanese cds I have heard sound equally good if a bit different than the Mosaic mastering. I do like the others, each has its charm, but I would say those above may have just a shade more interest as Clark plays very very well on them.

Lafayette Gilchrist "Towards the Shining Path" Everyone should be talking about Lafayette Gilchrist! He's a huge talent imo.

I like them all to be honest.

This series is re-issuing re-issues so no new titles here.

Prince "Welcome 2 America" cd A return to the type of Prince I really like. Nice sound too, not a loudness war victim.

Kenny Burrell "Monday Stroll" Savoy/Denon cd.

These were all released about 8 years ago. They sound excellent IMO and I like having the LT series covers.

I definitely am also glad these are being made available again so that others who may be interested and/or new to Coltrane can have some great sounding cds. Not sure how many new to Coltrane are looking for cds these days, and if so looking towards Japan, but there you go. I bought the then "low priced reissue" of "At the Village Vanguard Again" in 2018. Would be great if this were a new remaster. . . as all the newer remasters have been pretty darned good to excellent. I'd also love to see a new mastering of "Selflessness," the title that was withdrawn last year. So part of me hopes there is new work done on these. . . but my gut tells me they will be the same as previous releases. If my joints were nimble enough these days I'd cross my fingers.

Jupiter Variations has been out on cd before. . . I bet all these are previous masterings. . . would love to know if they aren't. Sigh. Wish Live in Seattle were among them with the really good mastering others reported on the SHM-CD I missed years ago.

Bill Evans "Evans in England" Resonance 2 cd set, disc 2 I really like what Marty Morell brought to the Trio so I decided to listen to this one. Very enjoyable playing, sound is not as good as the Elemental but decent.

Bill Evans "Behind the Dikes" Elemental Music 2 cd set, disc 2 Sound is very good on this set, and the playing is possibly even better.

Joyce "Saudade do Futuro" from the 4 cd box set "Discobertas"

"The Greatest Jazz Concert in the World" OJC/Pablo 3 cd set, disc 2 Sorry, this one does not live up to its title but which one would? I like these performances though, this disc is all Ellington Orchestra. John Lamb was on bass for a good stretch of the 'sixties, and I really admire his tone and ideas and how he anchors the band.

Re-watched the episode of "Evil" from a few weeks ago on Paramount+ -- that is among my new favorite shows.

This century when I want a real Porgy and Bess fix I listen to this 2 cd set.

"Thelonious Monk With John Coltrane – The Complete 1957 Riverside Recordings" disc 1 This set has lived in my car a long time as it's perfect to pop one disc in on the way to my Dad's and one in for the way back home--and provides a jazz kick and an intellectual snack for the trip. Today I took it out of the car to listen to on the main system. Boy does it sound great!

Kris Bowers "Heroes + Misfits" Concord Jazz cd

I had some birthday money so I ordered more of the fellow birthday boy's new reissues from Japan and they arrived in 3 days. Listened to: "Louis Armstrong meets Oscar Peterson" UHQCD "Satchmo in Style" UHQCD

The label is shipping this now, not in September.

Does suck indeed. My wife's work place has become a masked, distanced one again and she's not happy. . . but I am as it will keep her safer. We are Pfizer fully vaccinated, but this variant is a powerful one.
