It’s been too long since I listened to Billie and I saw this one on the shelf and popped it in. Billie Holiday “All or Nothing at All” Verve/Analogue Productions SACD

It's very good. Tubby plays tenor, flute and vibes, Kirk does his thing and there is a really nice piece where both Tub and Kirk play flute. The piano trio backing them is just right--letting the stars shine, and then swinging nicely in their own segments. PS: I was remembering wrongly about the Columbia cd, that is another session. I also have this in the Kirk Mercury box, but it doesn't sound this good.

Starting off a cold morning with one of my favorite releases of this decade: Joel Ross “Who Are You?” Blue Note cd Joel Ross, vibes, with Jeremy Corren on piano, Immanuel Wilkins on alto saxophone and Jeremy Dutton on drums, Kanoa Mendenhall on bass. Harpist Brandee Younger is also featured on five of the album’s tracks.

Arturo O’Farrill and Chuco Valdes “Familia-Tribute to Bebo and Chico” cd 1 I have been tube rolling and using Afro-Cuban Jazz and Afro-Samba jazz as that helps me distinguish differences. And the music is great.

I have most of what I want from the missing as well. I need the Sam Most. . . I really like Most's work. Maybe one day.

I'm not an expert on Armstrong bios, but I think this is likely the best one and is well-written indeed. Probably a good idea--I don't stream so it matters not to me, but I have been listening to Oliver and Armstrong as I read. I'm going through this book very slowly, savoring it and also reading other things.
