  1. Shipping via DHL is not cheap via cdjapan either and in "normal" times there are less expensive options but not now, still total shipping via DHL for 8 to 10 cds is about 28 dollars, so ordering that many is not exorbitant imo. Especially as they arrive in three or four days. That fuse I think was a victim of the first shut down of regular postal service from Japan and got lost in the shuffle until recently. I have in fact ordered other discs from Japan from private sellers when the price was right and though a little patience is required, there have been no real snafus.
  2. My most obvious postal mess up was a fuse I ordered from eBay. Came from Japan. It shipped April 3, 2019. By July I decided it was not coming but asked the seller for any other tracking he might have. He refunded my order. A month later that seller withdrew from eBay. Saturday the fuse arrived! TEN months after the shipping date.
  3. Pharoah Sanders "Live at the East" Impulse/Universal Japan SHM-CD 2021. It's a true pleasure to have this new SHM-CD as I have only had a distorted LP burn on CDR before. A great set of music now sounding wonderful in this new mastering.
  4. Miles Davis "Miles Smiles" 20 bit Sony LP facsimile cd. I am playing this one because I am very familiar with how it sounds and I'm breaking in a few fuse in my P15 power regenerator. This fuse I assumed had been lost in the mail. I ordered it from Japan in April last year and it arrived Saturday! I guess the pandemic was the cause. . . I was reimbursed for it about six months ago and that vendor is no longer on eBay. I love this album. . . have for more than four decades now. . . it’s funny to think that I’ve had this music in my life that long.
  5. George Russell and the Living Time Orchestra "The African Game" Blue Note cd This is one of the quietest mastered cds I have. Sounds very good when cranked!

  7. Yes, they fell apart. And their proclaimed matreiya abandoned them prior to their dissolution.
  8. interesting. Theosophy fasinates me--though mostly as the crucible for Krishnamurti.
  9. Doesn't look to me as if it's on.
  10. I understand that. Each of those artists have a cohesive concept and a recognizable style that distinguishes them. I haven't been bitten by the Booker bug as hard as others have--there's something in the "cry" of his work that I hear too often and wish he would not employ it as often. I think he learned a lot from his time with Mingus. Another saxophonist from a Mingus combo that I wish had the recording opportunities that Booker had was Shadi Hafi. I really really like his playing. . . and wish there were a lot more recordings.
  11. So sue me, this is a favorite. Pharoah Sanders, "Karma" Impulse/Universal Japan SHM-CD, 2021 Really nice sound in my system on this new cd.
  12. The Frank Ortega Trio "Swingin' Abroad" Roulette Japan cd You know how they say "NOT your grandfather's". . . well this IS your grandfather's piano trio. Nice sound on this early Japanese cd.

  14. "The Boys" S 1. Liking it more than expected.
  15. Photos signed by Duke, Sarah, Billie, Lionel.
  16. Saw Dexter's daughter on an old Antiques Roadshow last night, prompting me to put on one of his. . .
  17. Archie Shepp "For Losers" Impulse/Universal Japan SHM-CD 2021. I'm enjoying reliving these Shepps in the new (great sounding) SHM-CDs from Japan. So much drama in the Shepp music of this era. I think Shepp would have made a great actor in progressive movies during this time. A missed opportunity! I love the ALS pastiche that is "Un Croque Monsieur" . . . . Just look at the cast on these recordings! Track 1 Archie Shepp - tenor saxophone, soprano saxophone Leon Thomas - lead vocals Martin Banks - trumpet, flugelhorn Robin Kenyatta - alto saxophone, flute Andrew Bey - piano Bert Payne - guitar Albert Winston - electric bass, bass Tasha Thomas, Doris Troy - backing vocals Beaver Harris - drums Track 2 Archie Shepp - tenor saxophone Jimmy Owens - trumpet Grachan Moncur III - trombone James Spaulding- alto saxophone Charles Davis - baritone saxophone Dave Burrell - organ Wally Richardson - guitar Bob Bushnell - electric bass Bernard Purdie - drums Tracks 3-5 Archie Shepp - tenor saxophone Woody Shaw - trumpet Matthew Gee - trombone Cedar Walton - piano Wilbur Ware - bass Joe Chambers - drums Clarence Sharpe - alto saxophone (3 and 5) China-Lin Sharpe - vocals (3 and 5) Cecil Payne - baritone saxophone, flute (4-5)
  18. Marion Brown "Three for Shepp" Impulse/Universal Japan SHM-CD from 2021
  19. Wynton Marsalis "Uptown Ruler" Columbia cd What a great rhythm section.
  20. Tubby Hayes "Free Flight" cd 1
  21. Stan Getz --"The New Stan Getz Quartet -- Getz a Go Go" Verve Originals cd It's so cool when you can find a picture that is from the actual recording date (one of two for this album).

  23. Otis Trio "74 Club" Far Out cd A Brazilian jazz group. . . somewhat "out". . . a guitar trio supplmented with vibes, sax, clarinet, trumpet and trombone in varying ensembles. The first cut starts off with a Rolling Stones riff and ends with a Batman tv show riff, just to mess with expectations. An intriguing release.
  24. Malfada Minnozzi "Sensorial--Portraits in Boss and Jazz" Took a chance on this one via Dusty Groove in Chicago--I haunt their Brazilian releases online and order a few a month. This one was a nice "blind leap"--really enjoy it's instrumentation and her interpretations.
