  1. Eliane Elias "Around the City" RCA cd A very different Elias album, but it is welcome today.
  2. Eliane Elias "Brazilian Classics" Blue Note cd A collection of tracks from her Blue Note years. . .all excellent, nicely sequenced, a real treat to listen to as the snow falls.
  3. I too can sleep if it's that hot. . . my first decade in Texas, the 'eighties, I was too poor to live with central air and heat and worked it out. The final solution for me was to sleep on a water bed and have the heater turned off. Works!
  4. This and Fire Music are my favorites. . .well On this Night too. These new SHM-CDs from Japan sound fantastic.
  5. Archie Shepp "The Way Ahead" Impulse/Universal Japan SHM-CD. Shepp again. What a dramatic player and arranger. You can hardly get bluer than the opening track.
  6. The trio LP by Jones with Marshall and Clarke for Savoy in '55 was recorded the day I was born.
  7. Charles Mingus "Dynasty" Sony Japan budget cd I was inspired to play this disc seeing Lafayette Gilchrist post his playing of it on facebook. Such a powerful album, so exquisitely arranged and dynamically performed.
  8. "John Coltrane Quartet Plays" Impulse/Universal Japan UHQCD
  9. Pharoah Sanders "Jewels of Thought" Impulse/Universal Japan SHM-CD. Another of the series released on the 20th of this month. Wow. It's been too long since I heard this one.
  10. Archie Shepp, "Fire Music" Impulse/Universal Japan SHM-CD From the new 60th Anniversary series of reissues from Japan. Sounds great!
  11. Rita Reys "Rita A Go Go" Philips I ordered one of these "Five Original Albums" or Reys because it had her Jobim album which I wanted to hear, and there were four others. This one is interesting. I am used to hearing English spoken with this Dutch accent I guess from my years in Swaziland; my wife says she sings "weird" but it doesn't seem weird to me. Very vivid sound in this live recording! The songs are very much "of a time and place."
  12. I'd jump on this if interested--only 500 supposedly. https://www.dustygroove.com/item/975757
  13. A compilation disc from Sony (Brazil)--great fusion of old and new soiunds. I love this stuff "Nossa Bossa"
  14. My principal interest in a Blue Note Henderson set is sonic. I'm retired, I've invested in a very good system, and the Mobley set was a delight in that each session was presented in homogenous mastering, and each session sounded better than it has on cd for me before. I was even able to finance the set entirely by selling Japanese discs that I had of the material. A similar set of Henderson material would be a welcome additon.
  15. Fernanda Cunha "Olhos de Mar" Another nice cd from Ms Cunha. Very nice guitar on this.
  16. Piri "Voces Querem Mate" This Brazilian trio of singers and instrumentalists is a sunny blast of upbeat beauty for a gray cold day. Reminding me a lot of the Tamba 3 and Tamba 4, with a bit more lushness of arrangements and of course more voices.
  17. Listening to the '97 SBM Sony LP facsimile cd of this Miles Davis release. I like the sound better on this than on the disc in the Complete Columbia Album set. . . but of course I can't just sell or give away that disc, it's part of an 80 disc set. The dilemnas of a collector. . . I know them well. Miles Davis "You're Under Arrest"
  18. That honestly does NOT come up when I use the search within amazon. Thanks. I have it on the way from Dusty Groove. I've liked all those they released on cd so far. And had none of the titles before.
  19. I forgot how good this one is! What a band. . . . "The Pepper-Knepper Quintet" Pepper Adams – baritone saxophone Jimmy Knepper – trombone Wynton Kelly – piano, organ Doug Watkins – bass Elvin Jones – drums
  20. When I go to that cd option it is for a former cd version, at a steep price.
  21. I have the Mosaic Select, and this mini-lp. . . and just discovered when I went to merge it with my other mini-lps. . . that I have another copy! Such is the life of a collector. Now playing I was missing vitamin wah-wah-guitar from my musical diet so spinning this disc fixed what ailed me. Marvin Gaye "You're the Man" This album didn't come out when it was recorded in '72.
  22. Thanks. Amazon does not list it which threw me off, found it on dustygroove.
  23. On LP only right? I don't like how Real Gone has only reissued two titles on LP so far, and not yet released a cd version.
