  1. SFJazz Collective "Wonder: The Songs of Stevie Wonder" A studio recording of material from their Wonder tour. Very nice.
  2. There are insane things happening all over this nation. And world.
  3. {bootleg copy} disc 3 Now on to. . . . Miles Davis "Miles in Tokyo--Miles Davis Live in Concert" Sony DSD lp facsimile cd I never will get tired of this one, a great show.
  4. SF Jazz Collective "Music of Miles Davis and Original Compositions" disc 2
  5. "Classic Savoy Be-bop Sessions 1945-1949" Mosaic Records, disc 8 This disc has sessions led by Howard McGhee, Leo Parker and Brew Moore. Sound is excellent
  6. Dizzy Gillepsie "A Portrait of Duke Ellington" Verve cd I blew the dust off this one, haven't heard it in a long time. This is interesting because the arrangements and orchestrations are disctinctly non-Ellingtonian for the most part and Dizzy often plays here reverently and gracefully which was not always his modus operandi! Lots to enjoy here.
  7. Great news and thanks to the one who assisted. These are fantastic box sets and I know you will enjoy the music!
  8. Bill Evans "Turn out the Stars" disc 4 I haven't played any of this box set in a while. I forget the bright velocity of some of these interpretations. Music bubbling with energy.
  9. Duke Ellington "Anatomy of a Murder" Columbia/Sony cd from the Complete Albums box set (the first). Had to adjust the treble a bit, this is a harsher cd than most. But great music!
  10. Charlie Haden "Silence" from the Black Saint/Soul Note box set. I wish Chet and Charlie had done dozens of records together.
  11. Andrew Hill "Passing Ships" Blue Note cd It's been too long since I had a bowl of Wolf Brand chili--OR heard this killer Andrew Hill cd. Took a long time for this to come out of the vault, but more than worth the wait!
  12. I don't think this photo rules her out, at least not for me.
  13. CJ reported in on Facebook. He seems to be doing as okay as possible, has begun a search for a new apartment and is coping with the loss . . . of everything.
  14. I think that may have been an auto correct of "Varitone" in Bradd's post. I don't think Stitt plays baritone sax here. From looking at discographies my guess is that this session is all Varitone. My copy of the cd is in storage fifty minutes away so a quick check is not possible.
  15. Mike is such a nice guy. Met him when Sam Rivers came to the Elephant Room in Austin and he sat for a while with my wife and I at a table. That was a wonderful night.
  16. Bass – Harry Emmery Drums – Jo Krause Piano – Rob Agerbeek Tenor Saxophone, Clarinet, Vocals – Ruud Brink Notes Recorded Live at Nick Vollebregt's Jazzcafé, Laren, Holland on October 19, 1989 https://www.discogs.com/Rob-Agerbeek-Ruud-Brink-Pardon-My-Bop/release/10644509
  17. Terry Morel "Songs of a Woman in Love" Bethlehem/Solid Records Japan cd A Sunday kind of disc. This reminds me of the kind of music my Mom would like me to put on when she had time to relax and read. She was a big Rosemary Clooney fan. This isn't Clooney, but I think she would like it. Ralph Sharon is on piano and Herbie Mann is playing some nice flute accompaniment.
  18. Antonio Carlos Jobim "Stone Flower" CTI SHM-CD (RVG remastered)
  19. Lafayette Gilchrist & The New Volcanoes "Deep Dancing Suite" (Manta Ray Records)
  20. Miles Davis (and Gil Evans) "Porgy and Bess" Mobile Fidelity SACD New (to me) speaker cables in place and this disc is sounding killer for possibly the first time (I thought it sounded really good before but it's delivered better now). Evans created threads of sound as no one else. This is one of those albums you can listen to for decades (I have) and still be swept away within (I have, I am).
  21. Stefon Harris "The Grand Unification Theory" Blue Note cd This one is one of my favorites of his. So much to enjoy here in arrangements, solos, engineering. Not a "let's just do a record" record--much thought and energy are put into play.
  22. Yes, I have a number of his recordings and he's a master. I plan to listen to this solo piano one next: All the volumes in this series are excellent.
  23. Sounds like a good ratonal plan. Imagine that!
