  1. Kurt Elling "Close Your Eyes" Blue Note cd An amazing debut. The title track gets me every time with a poignant memory of love. Followed by Kenny Wheeler "Gnu High" ECM cd What a band: Wheeler, Jarrett, Holland, Dehonette
  2. Since I've been really thrilled with the sound lately I put on two recordings that have awesome soundstaging, one "natural" and one "artificial" so to speak. And man they DELIVER "realistic" depth and width and dynamics. The "natural" was Ella Fitzgerald "Ella Fitzgerald Sings the Gershwin Songbook" on Verve 3 cd, disc 1 this time, and with the "Phase" on my DAC "OUT." WOW. Then the artificial was Flying Lotus "Flamangra" which showed layered production that always draws me deep in. What I had to do firs was prove to myself there was no distortion at the listening level I was listneing on other material, because there is plenty of deliberate distortion in this musical collage.
  3. Ella Fitzgerald "Sings the Gershwin Songbook" 3 cd VERVE Edition, disc 2. I find when I hit the "Out" position on my DAC''s Phase button the sound is less thin and the sound stage opens up.
  4. Hank Mobley "High Voltage" from the most recent (now OOP) Mosaic box set of Blue Note recordings. Great sound!
  5. I'm not a digital file hunter and gatherer so I welcomed another shot at a silver plated disc version. Only rarely has this NOT been the case in my experience with any amazon, and especially I've found it fruitful to order when there is a change from not listed to "In Stock." I took the plunge. There is nothing lost in the venture if it does not ship.
  6. On another board at least one US member received one this week fron a UK Amazon marketplace seller. And this item is noted "In Stock" which it was not when I looked Tuesday.
  7. Revisiting "Just Coolin'" by Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers, the previously rejected session finally released by Blue Note. Not the best Messengers album and I can see why it went unissued, but still glad it came out.
  8. As of this moment amazon UK have copies to order. . . .
  9. Trying this one again. I had to adjust the ZROCK2 as this is very compressed sounding otherwise. I like Kurt best when his lyrics were more conventional as they were at the beginning of his career. That said I am liking this one more this time around. Kurt Elling "Secrets are the Best Stories"
  10. Jim Hall "Grand Slam" Telarc Jazz cd
  11. I have everything that I can find of '64 and have this one too, but I will buy it again. All of '64 is essential for me. I don't think I have the '75, glad this is coming out, thanks for the notice.
  12. The birthday boy! Wayne Shorter, "Night Dreamer" 24 bit by RVG Blue Note Japan cd. ]
  13. Laurence Hobgood (with Charlie Haden, Kurt Elling) "When the Heart Dances" Naim cd Wow.
  14. Re-reading these stories. I'm beginning to believe Cordwainer Smith is one of the very best writers. Period.
  15. Now disc 2 SF Jazz Collective "Original Compositions & works by Wayne Shorter"
  16. Pharoah Sanders "Journey to the One" Evidence cd
  17. SF Jazz Collective "Original Compositions, and works by Wayne Shorter" disc 3
  18. Stefon Harris "African Tarantella--Dances with Duke" Blue Note cd
  19. Finally getting some time to listen after a week mostly away from home with in-laws and services. Back to this one because it sounded so good first time through. Jim Gailloreto's Split Decision "Shadow Puppets" A new arrival, featuring Laurence Hobgood on keyboards.
  20. If you remove the quotation mark from the link Brad provided it will lead to a page where you can download the pdf of the ledger.
  21. I don't think there is any true stereo recorded Bird, there is one concert where a stereo was created by using two differently recorded sources blended together.
  22. Jim Gailloreto's Split Decision "Shadow Puppets" A new arrival, featuring Laurence Hobgood on keyboards.
  23. I'm with you Aric, this is a great album. I love Brazilian music and I'm fond of what Duke did here.
  24. Lots of in-law stuff most of today but sneaking this in: Ike Quebec "Bossa Nova Soul Samba" 24 bit by RVG Japanese Blue Note cd. Just love this session!
