  1. Houston Person "To Etta With Love" High Note Records cd. My wife lost her mother on Monday morning (not unexpected) and she's home being a bit sad and luckily a lot mellow and she likes this one. (A rare jazz occurance!) Now (my wife fell asleep downstairs, I'm up with the main system now) Bennie Maupin "The Jewel in the Lotus" ECM cd
  2. Yes, ideally in the real world it would be too. But this decade everything is about politics. . . .
  3. Stefon Harris & Blackout "Evolution" Blue Note cd Followed by Branford Marsalis Quartet "Upward Spiral" Featuring Kurt Elling
  4. Kurt Elling "Passion World" Earlier, Stefon Harris "Blackout" A breezier Harris release. I like it. Crystal clear sound.
  5. I'm with you. Above most criticizing him say that his addiction may or may not have caused a deterioration in his playing, exemplified mostly it seems by a constant "rushing" of the tempo. I can hear this. . . but then it doesn't bother me. I played drums in a band with a guitarist leader and bass player who were constantly shifting time, usually rushing, and I just did my best to be rock steady and keep an anchor to which they slacked and stretched a line. In the course of some years of playing and a lot of years of listening that sort of rushing just is part of the music playback and doesn't bother me. And I love Evans in early, mid and late periods. That touch and flow!
  6. SF Jazz Collective "Original Compositions and Works by Wayne Shorter" disc 1
  7. Charles Mingus "Mingus at Carnegie Hall" Mobile Fidelity Gold cd Wish the first set would show up one day. What a blast this concert must have been to see!
  8. Another Jose Santos Neto, "Roda Carioca (Rio Circle)" . . . . Guest appearances by Hermeto Pascoal. . . and Joyce.
  9. Jovino Santos Neto "Because of You" This is perhaps my favorite Jobim tribute release of the past decade. Wonderful playing and sound.
  10. Some heavy in-law stuff going down and I haven't had a lot of listening time the last few days, but I'm getting a little solo time this evening. Started off with this one, which I couldn't find for a few months and wanted to hear badly, and finally discovered it had slipped down behind a bookcase. The BossaReNova Trio, "Samba Preludio" [/img] I sure needed to hear the lovely voice of Paula Morelenbaum. [/img] I am spinning this one now--It's been too long. I really like this one, one of the first if not the first live performances of Wayne with the Quintet. The sound is very good and the playing is spirited. Miles Davis "Miles in Berlin" Sony DSD remastered LP facsimile cd.
  11. It's out there though, and as others have mentioned above there will be those who will find a way to manufacture and distribute this, and no doubt there are those who will distribute it on shared zones. But I hope that a deal will be worked out for an official release. It seems likely--there's already inventory. Someone will make a deal for ready-made product that can be sold.
  12. Yes correct. That is NOT an official release. . . . Columbia/Sony has not put it out.
  13. I think "The Riddle" is also not officially released on cd.
  14. Idris Ackamoor and the Pyramids "An Angel Fell"
  15. 100 percent agree. Nearly fifty years later and I still find it exciting.
  16. Kurt Elling "The Messenger" Blue Note cd My friend Dave Laczko says this is his favorite Ellington release. I can see why he digs it so much, it's a great one. It's Elling's second studio album.
  17. It's totally a gas! I have the Mobile Fidelity version.
  18. KU-UMBA FRANK LACY — FRANK LACY & MINGUS BIG BAND : MINGUS SINGS

  22. Grant Green "Grantstand" 24 bit by RVG Japanese cd. Yusef Lateef is one of my favorite tenor saxophonists and flautists--all four of these cats have a great chemistry and make this session MOVE.
  23. Kurt Elling "Secrets are the Best Stories" Juno Records Kurt Elling, voice and Danilo Pérez, piano, with bassist Clark Sommers, drummer Johnathan Blake and percussion master Rogerio Boccato. They’re joined by guests alto saxophonist Miguel Zenón, guitarist Chico Pinheiro, and Román Díaz, percussion.
