I'll have to go from memory as I am not sure where that box set is at the moment, but I think so yes.

Cool, I don't remember seeing that on the site before. My guess is the 1,000 only decision is Universal/Blue Note's and not Culture Factory's. They have a lot of series going on different labels and formats, and probably want to keep titles rotating in formats and different groups of listeners.

It seems they intend to do more Erwin, I finally found this info on the amazon.fr site which includes a little info about their remastering intention for this series (which differs from the rock releases I have from the label). Thanks to Don Was, we are proud to annonce the beginning of our Blue Note Collection in CD Vinyl Replica. Whats better to have a hard to find album Let Freedom Ring Is An Album By Jackie Mclean, Recorded In 1962. Mclean Wrote Three Of The Four Compositions. The One Non-Mclean Track Is Bud Powells Ballad, Ill Keep Loving You. Deluxe Vinyl Replicas by Culture Factory constitute high quality reissued compact-discs which reproduce all the components of the original LPs and are their exact replicas in compact-disc size (5.3 x 5.3 inches), with authentic single or gatefold cardboard jackets and paper sleeves. In addition to the above, each compact-disc Deluxe Vinyl Replica includes a black finish CD complete with the original label to give it the look and feel of the original record album. Culture Factory strives to achieve an authentic sound with the highest possible fidelity to the original studio masters. Our remastering process brings out the music's true dynamics and original clarity with low levels of noise. In the remastering studio the audio tracks are handled in the form of high-definition, 96Kz / 24-bit digital files for greatest preservation of fidelity. Signal compression is sometimes used to bring out frequencies that were absent or barely heard in the original recordings, and we use the least amount of compression possible. While sound perception varies greatly among individuals our vinyl replica CDs are designed to provide the optimal listening experience when using flat EQ settings. Brand new, original, factory-sealed, limited edition CD release

The packaging is semi-sturdy. It's a bit taller than the JRVG, not a whole lot, and it's stiff card stock as opposed to the thicker cardboard or fiberboard of the JRVGs. The sound is closer to the 75th Anniversary than the UHQCD they re-released most recently, and I dare say it may be a bit better than the SHM-CD--personal preference and system characteristics may mean one is preferred over the other. I like many Culture Factory cds to be honest, but some are turkeys. These two they just released of Blue Notes don't sound like any other Culture Factory cds I have, neither as "pumped up" nor as EQ'd. There's no mastering info on this other than they are 24/96 remastered. I got them from Amazon for less than 9 dollars each. I hope they continue with more titles from the label as I'm digging these two.

Got to warm up the main system and sneak two discs in. First up is this new reissue released Friday on Culture Factory of Jackie McLean "Let Freedom Ring" in a nice LP facsimile package. This actually sounds really good. Walter Davis, Jr. really hits me this listen through, and Herbie Lewis with his interesting lines and crisp attack. Then this new to me disc by Myriam Alter . . . ."Alter Ego" with Ron Miles, Kenny Werner, Billy Drewes, Joey Barron and Marc Johnson. Very nice music, very well recorded.

Thanks for the heads up.

"Joao Gilberto and the Stylists Of Bossa Nova Sing Antonio Carlos Jobim" Cherry Red Records 2 cd set, disc 2

Don Wilkerson "Preach Brother!" Blue Note/Culture Factory LP facsimile cd. Yes, it's Culture Factory. I happen to like a lot of their releases more than others do (though there are turkeys) but this and the McLean title released yesterday actually sound pretty darned good.

I have all the cds in that series. Wonderful series.

Yes, the Mods are updates to the component power supply that he offers, really changes the sound of the amps in great ways. The components that the mods are done to are tube based. Modern tube designs, hand wired, no circuit boards. . . don't sound like classic old school tube amps, to me they have the best of both solid state and tube in their sound. I don't have a camera, I don't have a phone that connects to the web, and I just don't do photos, sorry. Yes, I know. . . and believe it or not I'm in the smallest house I've lived in since my apartment days, a 100 year old cottage that has been expanded both up and out, but still one of the smallest houses in the neighborhood. I have to rent a storage unit to house much of my stuff as my wife doesn't like "stuff" all around. I've lived in two African countries and traveled through Western Europe, so I know how different that can be.

I have an audio/video system in half of a room that is in total 9 meter by 7 meter. I have my main system in a room about 11 meter by 3.5 meter.

Yes, I have two systems with Decware preamps, EQ preamps, amplifiers, and headphone amplifiers, most with the "25th Anniversary Mods." I have Decware HR-1 speakers in both, and PS Audio and Rega and Oppo sources. An embarrassment of riches really, I'm glad I was able to build these systems.

Been doing a lot of audiophile futzing (much to my dachshund's chagrin) but also a lot of excellent listening. Re-listening to Hubert Laws recently has me investigating quite a few of my old "stoner jazz" favorites and then I've found a few new ones that would fall into that category. Yesterday I listened to the Return to Forever on ECM (Japanese SHM-CD), then Keith Jarrett "Treasure Island" (Impulse, from one of the two box sets of this material), then Weather Report "Sweetnighter" from the first box set of their entire output. Then I followed up with this one which has echoes of Weather Report to me as well as other fusions--love it: Omar Sosa & NDR Big Band "Es: Sensual" Then I followed the Jacques Morelenbaum trail and listened to this one, new to me and I think fantastic: Myriam Alter, "Where is There" Today I continued on a bit of a fusion bend with a ringer of a Jackie & Roy album, on Japanese CTI Supreme series Blu-Spec cd, "A Wilder Alias," and now I'm on to more of a classic jazz vein with the 12th cd in the "Complete Bill Evans on Verve" box set, Bill with Gomez and Philly Joe. The system is sounding great. . . and I'm really enjoying the listening.

Nat Birchall Quartet "The Storyteller--The Music of Yusef Lateef" This cd keeps jumping into my transport. It's great music (I've long been a Lateef fan and I've become a Birchall fan) and it's the kind of recording that lets you know how your system is doing--very well-recorded, acoustic instruments clearly and cleanly presented. Followed by . . . . A Helen Merrill that was as far as I know only released in Japan and that I have had a crappy MP3 version from someone. . . so happy to have this on the new UHQCD release from Japan. Not essential, unless like me you are someone who just has to have all of Merrill's work if possible. . . . Helen Merrill "Love in Song"

I have those boxes too. I don't specifically remember what Larry is looking for but man there's great moments in that "Jam" box.

It's been thirty years or so since I read The Magic Mountain. I don't remember really disliking it. I like a lot of Mann; about 8 years ago I re-read all the Joseph novels, which I really enjoy.

Stan Getz "My Foolish Heart," Label M cd. Wow. What a band, and they have Stan inspired. Stan with Richie Beirach, Dave Holland and Jack DeJohnette.

John Coltrane "Blue World," Universal Japan SHM-CD.

Due to my being unsure of whether I had prepaid for a copy of this set and an unwillingness to start a long string of emails about it as I had with Mosaic about the Woody Herman set I ended up with two copies of this box set. I'm offering an unopened brand spanking new set for the Mosaic price of $140 and will include media mail postage to a continental US address. I will ship the next business day. . . something that doesn't necessarily happen with Mosaic records in recent history. . . . If interested please PM me here or email me at lonjazz@yahoo.com. Thanks!

This morning I started off with some great Brazilian jazz: Duduka Da Fonseca "Samba Jazz Fantasia." A great cast and recording. Then somehow I got a hankering for Sonny Rollins music. That happens sometimes. Decided to spin two great albums that I listened to on the DCC gold cd editions: Sonny Rollins "The Sound of Sonny" (Riverside Records) Followed by "Sonny Rollins and the Contemporary Leaders" (Contemporary Records)
