Some of Those Miles 60s Quintet Albums Are Mixed Poorly in Stereo
jazzbo replied to Teasing the Korean's topic in Discography
Are you referring to original LPs with original mixes? I honestly don't find the original mixes to hamper my enjoyment of these sessions in any way and in fact prefer to listen to the originals rather than remixes. They seem to be creative statements these original mixes, a part of the artistic nature and charm of the albums. I love the music. That said I don't have the "no eq, no futzing, direct only" mindset of many audiophiles I encounter and my equipment does allow me to play with EQ and present a forward or laid back sonic perspective etc. -
LF: Donald Byrd/Pepper Adams Mosaic set

That just seems a waste. I was semi-Luddite and hesitated a long time to move to PayPal but once I did I realized the safety and convenience. I still send and accept checks myself, but it's a rare thing. I would encourage you to try setting up a PayPal account. . . . Better to get a few dollars than have all that land in a landfill. I would have bought from you. . . but I had all the items you wanted to sell with one exception where the price was just over my limit for that item. Best of luck L! -
Yes, that Japanese cd is very good sounding! (As are almost every one in that reissue series in my opinion).

Yesterday I had "vibes." I started my listening to this cd by Betty Roche "Take the A Train" on Solid Records/Bethlehem originally. It has Eddie Costa on vibes which is an automatic reason to buy any album. And I moved from there to Gary Burton's "New Vibes in Town" on Sony Japan cd, and then moved on to Jay Hoggard's "Fountain" on Muse cd. Had to revisit Betty today though. . . I'm going to absorb this set slowly. I'm only on the first show, second disc. Kudos to the Plangent Process and mastering. Grateful Dead, June 1976 box set.

You expressed yourself perfectly well. I can just imagine Trane taking those four to a zone they hadn't been before.

Up til today the biggest problem for me so far is missing hanging out with my Dad and having meals with him, something I usually do once or twice a week. They won't let me see him unless he turns fatally ill, which I sure don't want to happen. I suspect I'll get used to it. . . but I'm eager for this restriction to end. Then today I discovered that one of my wife's nephews, who lives in NYC, has come down with the virus. He's mid-thirties and healthy so I'm hoping it will be just an illness that passes with limited misery. . . .

Looks a lot more like Rouse to me. . . .

George. . . or Charlie Rouse? Too small to see.

The meaning and purpose definitely does change David. Alfred and Frank had their own intention about the quality image of their label and the integrity and reputation of the work and artists in the marketplace. Michael had his intentions of honoring the label's legacy and the artists works' legitimacy and he and those he consulted had an ear towards consistency and perfection in unreleased sessions and as he told me he felt the artists should be allowed to insure certain sub-standard sessions (which he reviewed with them) never were released. And then again the business changed and the label became a part of one large corporation, and then part of a yet larger corporation. . . and the intentions of the owners were further removed from those of the originators and the concerns of releasing for profit different as well, and now facing the possibility of having previously unobtainable releases offered for the first time from a past golden age in a marketplace that has been slowly starved of such possibilities. As I see it now one benefit of the possibilities that some of these are being released is that at least we have a choice when offered to buy it or not. When a few people listen to a session and decide for us, we often don't have that choice. Life is good when we have options, and the right to choose.

Shabaka & the Ancestors - We Are Sent Here By History

Mine arrived far earlier than amazon had warned me of. It's a fantastic release. -
Played two albums from the new Hank Mobley Mosaic Records cd set, I've always enjoyed these two. Hank Mobley "Dippin'" Hank Mobley "Hi Voltage" And then the expanded cd version of Jerry Garcia "Run for the Roses." I neglect this one too much, it's an interesting album. I wanted to evaluate the bass response of my current tube complements and John Kahn's bass sound is a good measurement tool for me.
