  1. Tania Maria "Made in New York" Manhattan Records cd Followed by Miles Davis "Seven Steps to Heaven" Sony 20 Bit LP facsimile cd. And then disc 1 of "The Complete Verve/Clef Studio Sessions of Charlie Ventura and Flip Philips" Mosaic Records cds.
  2. Yes, I'd like to see several of the Sanders and Live in Seattle with the 2011 remastering.
  3. UHQCD can sound very good. The Paris is a nice album, this and the Time album are the two I like most. Not knowing which masterings are used is a bummer. Universal has been using all kinds of masterings for these. The UHQCD I have on Impulse sound quite good indeed but I'm not sure which masterings were used. There are other Impulse titles coming out from Universal that are MQA encoded as well and do feature new mastering. . . they are not cheap. Those say: Reissue in Hi-Res CD format (UHQCD format x MQA technology). Uses the DSD master produced in 2020 based on the original tapes, and the master is converted in in 352.8kHz/24bit high resolution (perfect for MQA-enabled audio players). Green color label coating. Comes in a slim case packaging. *The disc can also be played on regular CD players in UHQCD 44.1kHz/16bit resolution. However, MQA-enabled hardware/software is necessary to harness the full potential of this Hi-Res CD.
  4. Probably. Don't have a time machine to go back and check.
  5. Yes. . . sorry about the "Cheesy". . . just a typo.
  6. Visited my Dad today. Had to answer questions about my travels and health and have my temperature taken just to get past the lobby of his assisted-living place. Sigh. It's going to be an interesting few years. . . . Listened to two different piano trios today, both excellent, but very different. First the David Hazeltine Trio "The Jobim Songbook in New York" Cheesy SACD. Then Randy Weston Trio, "Piano a la Mode" Jubilee Records Japan cd.
  7. Freddie Hubbard "Straight Life" CTI/King cd Japan
  8. Woody Shaw "Lotus Flower" Enja Japan cd. With Steve Turre, Mulgrew Miller. Nice stuff indeed.
  9. Phil Woods "Live from the Showboat" Sony 2 cd, disc 1
  10. After two days with my in-laws I was hoping for a day of music to rest, but Lucinda decided to stay home from work, altering my plans. She's napping on the couch now so I was able to sneak upstairs and listen to a few discs on headphones (ZMF Ori) on the main system. I started with Betty Carter, "Look at What I Got." I love Betty and this one has crept into my small group of favorites of hers. Great tunes, and I love the way she sings of romance, it seems to mirror my own joys when I find and have it, with an element of unexpected surprise thrown in that I always feel as well. She's less of a daredevil here, more the assured mistress of her art. I think she was one of the very best. http://cps-static.rovicorp.com/3/JPG_400/MI0001/880/MI0001880931.jpg?partner=allrovi.com[/img] And then on to Tania Maria. Wow. I keep forgetting how much I love her work and what a talent she is. She may well be the world's best scat singer and vocalese artists as well as just plain one of the best singers. She can scat and play so wonderfully simultaneously, better than Benson or anyone else I have heard. And she can do the same with whistling, and I may have never heard a more supple and accurate musical whistler. And she has such energy and personality in her compositions, interpretations and performances. I now pronounce her a genius. This is an excellent compilation of her work for World Pacific Records. Tania Maria, "The Best of Tania Maria"
  11. From elsewhere, another listener's post: "19 previously unreleased. This new expanded edition comprises three complete US concerts: Oakland Coliseum, Los Angeles Forum and San Diego Sports Arena, alongside London’s Royal Albert Hall." Sound is reportedly quite good, with the RAH being the one show that is not recorded well.I have the Japanese edition on the way. I no longer have any Cream other than the Disraeli Gears deluxe, so I wanted to add this. Clapton wasn't God, but I loved him a lot more than I've ever loved Bloomfield and NOONE is Jimi. I'm looking forward to listening to the set next week (mine arrives Monday).
  12. Thanks. I have never had a copy.
  13. Maybe the lease was to Blue Note EMI for the earlier release.
  14. Glad she's home! I know you're giving her the best care. Here's to a nice restful time for you both.
  15. Done a lot of listening to old favorites lately when home due to some component swapping and tube-rolling, and yesterday I didn't get much listening in as I was with my Dad all day. Things are settled nicely and I'm listening today for pleasure! I started off with Antonio Carlos Jobim "Tide" which is a great Deodata-arranged session that I hadn't listened to in too long. . . . Then I had a hankering for Ms Betty Carter, the dynamic bandleader and trail-blazing singer. This is one of her great Verve releases, "Droppin' Things" on Verve cd. There was no one like her! Then I moved on to Miles Davis, "Miles Smiles," the 20 bit Sony LP facsimile cd reissue. . . . TONY! And I'm listening now to a rare mother-daughter jazz release, Toshiko Akiyoshi and Monday Michiru "Jazz Conversations"
  16. I just want to add that there are two three cd sets I have that have a third cd with rare stuff: the Billie Holiday and the Lester Young. I saw both at quite reasonable prices and grabbed them, thinking I'll have nice compilations to spin now and then and was surprised at the content on the third discs which gave me a few items I did not have elsewhere.
  17. For sale: the Jascha Heifetz The Complete Album Collection, 103 cd and 1 DVD box set. I would say this set is in excellent condition. All discs have been played at least once and they are all accounted for and play perfectly. SOLD! NM condition John Williams Complete Columbia Album Collection box set. 59 cds, the set is complete with box and booklet. Price is 230 dollars which includes media mail postage within the United States. US sales only please. If interested please PM on the forum or email me at lonjazz@yahoo.com. Thanks! The Williams has sold.
  18. "Big Band Basie" Count Basie, Pablo K2 cd. I saw Basie about a year before this in a church. A wonderful show, even though I was distracted watching my late first wife on a date with someone else about four rows ahead on the other side of the sanctuary. . . . This band has such PRECISION. And the sound is killer. Before that these four masters of time, melody and mood. Great tunes! Milt Jackson, Ray Brown, Mickey Roker, Joe Pass "All Too Soon--The Ellington Album" Pablo cd. Following these. . . The powerful and innovative original mix of this classic cornerstone of my listening world. The first disc which is always a great one two punch of the mystic madness of "Pharaoh's Dance" and the dionysian funkiness of "Bitches Brew." This version is the stereo SACD layer of the latest Sony that features the quadrophonic version.
  19. Episode 3 of this season of Better Call Saul. And then some fun: Wayne Brady and Jill Scott as supervillains in Black Lightning, and Mel Rodriguez and Ed Asner in Briarpatch.
  20. Such welcome news. Try to get some rest. . . .
  21. I re-listened to Tania Maria's "Bela Vista." Some awesome music there. And that singing! And now onto more singing, another Brazilian singer, who I also love to listen to: Maucha Adnet & Helio Alves, "Milagre."
  22. Hoping for the best Brad.
