  1. Grateful Dead "Ready or Not". . . .This is a compilation of live tracks of songs that the last incarnation of the Dead with Garcia had never recorded in the studio. This is nowhere near the era of Dead I like and this cd hasn't changed my mind, but I had to check it out. . . .
  2. I also got a shipping notice. They are busy!
  3. I haven't listened too closely yet, was doing housework. It's good. The drums may be a bit too prominent in the mixes.
  4. "Duduka Da Fonseca Trio Plays Dom Salvador" Followed by something very different. disc 1 of "Complete Woody Herman Decca, Mars, MGM Sessions (1943-54)"
  5. You don't have to explain it to me. I admire your will power and plan. I too have serious space issues, and I don't care that much about cover art etc. so I may part with the Japanese cd copies I have if I really do like the mastering of this Mosaic set. I've begun downsizing and in fact have sold over 500 discs so far this year, a drop in the bucket, but a start. I'll have to see what the Morgan set brings. . . . I actually like the Morgan material a bit less than the Mobley so it's possible I may skip that set. . . . Ah, probably not seeing how I am, again I'll have other discs to sell if I prefer the mastering.
  6. Yeah, I have them all too. I had the American copies, now I have Japanese copies where available. And I ordered this set. Great music.
  7. Just to play devil's advocate, do you "literally" have the one previously unissued track in this set, the alternate take of "Me 'n You"?
  8. MANY HAPPY RETURNS!
  9. True in both holiday colors.
  10. Their shipping department isn't even THEIR shipping department.
  11. I've had "Big Fun" since the 2 LP was first released. "Go Ahead John" has never irritated me, it still delivers excitement in listening for me.
  12. June Tyson, with Sun Ra "Saturnian Queen of the Sun Ra Arkestra" cd Listening on newly acquired slightly used ZMF "Ori" headphones with cherry end caps.
  13. https://www.discogs.com/Oscar-Peterson-The-Complete-ClefMercury-Studio-Recordings-Of-The-Oscar-Peterson-Trio-1951-1953/release/2952855 From an amazon review: The recordings are presented in sequential order by recording date rather than in the order of release date. One of Norman Granz's peculiarities was that he would record marathon sessions and then mix-and-match tracks to put together albums. Most of the recordings presented in this box were initially released on 10 inch LPs, but when they were repackaged into 12 inch LPs. CD releases of some (but not all) of this material has mirrored the 12 inch LPs. The material in this box can be found spread across the following LP / CD releases: "Romance", "An Evening with", "Nostalgic Memories", "Recital", "An Oscar for Peterson", and the Cole Porter, Irving Berlin, George Gershwin, Duke Ellington, Jerome Kern, Richard Rogers, and Vincent Youmans entries in the "Oscar Peterson Plays ..." series.
  14. Yes, but at least so far a number of people don't have that set, while a number of people have had the Herman set that I prepaid for for weeks. . . . . Anyway, I think I prepaid for the Mobley as well. Another possible problematic wait.
  15. I finally got a shipping notice. . . for the Woody Herman. Probably shouldn't have pre-paid when the set was announced!
  16. John Coltrane "Impressions . . . Graz 1962"
  17. Two very different jazz discs. Gary Bartz "The Red and Orange Poems" Atlantic Records Freddie Hubbard "Pinnacle: Live and Unreleased from the Keystone Korner" Resonance Records
  18. I like a lot of Oscar's playing. I think the "London House" set is a great set of a working band in situ and some exciting playing from all three of the trio. I like his early work too, the earliest stuff that is on an RCA set and on a Hip-O-Select set. The man is a part of jazz history, in part because of his service as "house pianist" for Granz's JATP period and in part for his status as a popular artist in the genre in the 'fifties and 'sixties and beyond. Decided to play this one, which I like a lot.
  19. Off to spend the day with my Dad. This is a good send off! "Lonely Woman" will remain a timeless classic. Ornette Coleman "Shape of Jazz To Come" Warner Japan cd.
  20. I have many Miles Davis discs, and even though I have culled the collection considerably. . . still have a lot. There are Japanese releases that sound considerably better than any of the US release, at least to me in my system, and I will keep them and listen to them when I want to hear that music.
  21. I noticed this as an eBay item the first week of November and in essence pre-ordered it through that seller, one I trusted. Looking forward to this! The Bitches Brew two channel mastering was excellent and anticipate this one will be as well.
  22. Joe Henderson "Lush Life," Verve cd. "Isafahan" is a beautiful performance.
  23. Are you talking about "The Congregation" . . . that's a quartet session with Sonny Clark.
  24. Ray Benson! The man swings. Right now Tia Fuller, "Diamond Cut." Joe Henderson fans will particularly like her "Joe'n Around."
  25. I never became a Bruce Springsteen fan. In part he came up when I was head over heels seeking out jazz and fusion and still in the thrall of classic blues. And also in part that in my then "private Idaho" the people really into Bruce . . . were people I wasn't very impressed with or flat disliked. I definitely don't dispute his talent. The "E Street" stuff has never grabbed me but whenever I have heard or seen Bruce alone with a guitar, electric especially, I recognize that's how I like him best.
