  1. I posted this on the Decware High Fidelity Engineering page (I'm now the editor)
  2. Donald Byrd "Byrd in Hand" Blue Note SHM-CD
  3. I agree John, I really like the Barbieri.
  4. Andrew Hill "Passing Ships" . . . last cd before I head off to have dinner with my Dad and my two brothers, honoring the fact that my Mom passed away three years ago today.
  5. I bought "My People" and was surprised to find it sounds F'NG AMAZING. I have three other cds of this and a mono and stereo LP and this is the one I'll be spinning from now on.
  6. This time I'm listening to the Blu-Spec CD2. Miles Davis, "E.S.P." Some of my favorite music, period.
  7. Rosa Passos, "Rosa" . . . candy for the ears.
  8. Jackie McLean, "Consequence" Blue Note Connoisseur. Enjoying Harold Maeburn's work here. He played with a different style in some ways than his pianist stablemates. Lee and Jackie are having fun.
  9. Clarke Boland Big Band "All Smiles" MPS lp facsimile reissue from this summer. Sounds glorious.
  10. Playing around with the newly-arrived Decware ZROCK2 and the long-standing and -serving Decaware Torii Mk III today has been fun. I've listened to: Antonio Carlos Jobim "Passarim" SHM-CD The fantastic sounding new cd from Solid Records of the Duke Ellington release "My People" (this is a favorite recording of mine, I have mono and stereo LPs and two other cd releases, this one smokes them all). Thelonious Monk "Live in Rotterdam 1967: the Lost Recordings" CD edition
  11. I don't know, I'm choosing to look at the half full glass and thinking all the water won't evaporate before Jim has made a long-considered opinion with more input from persons who get the set in the meantime and talk about it. We'll see. I do think, knowing what I know of Jim's musical priorities and a "retired" status that this may be one he can let pass by and keep on the back-burner as a potential future capture.
  12. I like the sound of the Solid edition myself. In general I think this series from Solid sound very good. I haven't really warmed up to this session though. . . . I heard it years ago and wasn't crazy about it, and I still find it not really my cup of tea. I'll revisit it soon . . . things do "grow on me."
  13. As my/our friend Shawn would say: Rockin' good news!
  14. I'd say if you are questioning this. . . give it a pass. You have likely the most important material. At least for now let it be. It should be around a few years at least if things change and you have a larger discretionary pool to dive into.
  15. Antonio Carlos Jobim "Matita Pere" on Philips CD. Also released in the US as "Jobim" on MCA and Verve.
  16. I will when it arrives and I listen. Probably in a few weeks.
  17. Yes, but it hasn't shipped as the order includes other items released this week. So far I've only received the Standards and this Caramba. Both sound very similar to McMaster masterings to me. (Which is a bit disappointing).
  18. Blue Note Japan SHM-CD
  19. Me too. A friend told me a few minutes were edited out, but that's okay. I liked it a lot.

Toronto is Massey Hall. It would have been nice to have horns for a tour, but apparently it was decided he could have the horns or the singers with him, not both and he chose the singers. Which makes sense. . . . The bonus material is "San Diego '79" a standalone two cd set that is/was only available ordering from bobdylan.com It didn't come cheap--you could get the deluxe set about 50 dollars cheaper elsewhere, but that wasn't the case when I pre-ordered and I knew I'd want the San Diego show. ..like the others it has the "sermons" excised, more's the pity.
  21. Lee Morgan "Standards" Blue Note Japan SHM-CD
  22. Weather Report "Mysterious Traveler" from the new box set.Followed byKing Crimson, "In the Wake of Poseidon," 40th Anniversary (Steve Wilson remix)
  23. I have the Japanese copy of "A New Shade of Blue" and don't have any "bass" complaints.

Yes, I have been digesting the 9 disc (and bonus 2 cd live show) from bobdylan.com and agree. The two discs with studio and rehearsal rarities are also really nice. Looking forward to viewing the DVD soon.
