  1. Glad you're listening to this. Duke had an ear for a certain type of vocalist. I've gotten used to them over the years and learned to enjoy them!
  2. Yes, and if you haven't heard them try these (no electronica):
  3. The new SHM-CD from Solid Records Japan: Bass – George Tucker Bongos – Joseph Gorgas Drums – Alfred Dreares* Piano – Sonny Clark Tenor Saxophone – Jimmy Forrest Trombone – Bennie Green Followed by: Recent Sony budget Cd reissue with 2016 DSD mastering. Alto Saxophone – Lenny Hambro Bass – Arnold Fishkin or Clyde Lombardi Drums – Gus Johnson or Harold Granowsky Guitar – Barry Galbraith or Sal Salvador Piano – Eddie Costa
  4. I'm really enjoying this cd: I also love this one. If this isn't bossa nova jazz, what is?
  5. Japanese SHM-CD reissue. Jimmy Rowles "Fiorello Uptown/Mary Sunshine Downtown" Bass – Joe Mondragon Drums, Vibraphone – Larry Bunker Guitar – Al Hendrickson Piano – Jimmy Rowles
  6. I bought a few of these and have listened most closely so far to the Booker Little. This is a very interesting recording to begin with and I think the new mastering presents it perhaps best of the other version I've heard. A bit loud, yes, but a very clear and nuanced mastered sound.
  7. Recent Sony budget reissue cd. Interesting music, and some of the best Billy Bauer I've heard. Lenny's sound is so gorgeous.
  8. The Stereo SACD from MoFi. This album has become addictive to me.
  9. https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=Cello+Samba+Trio
  10. Morelenbaum is a master of the cello and he is rarely highlighted as he is here. .. this is a high quality recording as well. Wow. Cello, guitar and percussion.
  11. This McLean album seems like a nice homage and time slip to a Mingus world Jackie had a brief stint within. . . I really like it. This is the SHM-CD.
  12. The new SHM-CD from Warner Japan. Alto Saxophone – Gene Quill, Phil Woods Arranged By, Conductor – Al Cohn Baritone Saxophone – Sol Schlinger Bass – Milt Hinton Drums – Gus Johnson Engineer – Ray Hall Guitar – Freddie Green Piano – Patti Bown Producer – Jack Lewis Tenor Saxophone – Budd Johnson, Zoot Sims Trombone – Billy Byers, Jimmy Cleveland, Urbie Green, Willie Dennis Trumpet – Ernie Glow*, Joe Newman, Markie Markowitz*, Snooky Young Vocals – Jimmy Rushing Recorded at Webster Hall in New York on January 22 and 23, 1963.
  13. It's not an RVG mastering, so I guess I'm wrong to say it's the most recent if they included this title in that new RVG SHM-CD batch. There are of course no credits, but it doesn't sound like the US RVG at all, and I am pretty certain it's not a Japanese RVG (haven't heard that) of this session. Right now the new SHM-CD, I'm so happy Japan is reissuing these Glenn Roulettes on CD, they are great sessions. Great original recordings and remasterings as well.
  14. Having some tube-rolling fun. Right now getting good sound out of a pair of RCA Mullard made ECC189 input tubes and some Tesla 11TA31 voltage regulation tubes. Listening to the most recent Japanese reissue cd.
  15. Rihannon Giddens live at the NO Jazz and Blues Heritage Festival, May 2017. Love this gal. Surprisingly good sound. Too bad it's a cdr.
  16. My second listen to the new remix of Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, cd version. My favorite Beatles LP (I'm not a big Beatles fan, but this was one of the first LPs I owned, a mono copy). This sounds really nice, and if you are a Pepper's fan it's worth hearing. Won't replace my mono or stereo copies in heavy rotation though. . . .
  17. YEs, I really liked the season finale. Really enjoy this series.
  18. Yes, from 2007 https://www.discogs.com/Miles-Davis-Kind-Of-Blue/release/1480183 But I think these discs are actually manufactured with just one PCM and one DSD layer, the latter of which cn have more than two channels, up to six. . .
  19. I confess it's hard to mention favorites as even a few that didn't "grab" me at first have become great listens. Vol. 1 has the benefit of a session with Chet Baker that includes Dick Twardzik. . . that does make that volume special. Vol. 5 has nice octet material with Ericson and Persson that I like a lot. Those stand out just a bit more than some of the others (as you know Vol. 8 is really good too, like the Dawson drumming).
  20. I think you would enjoy ANY and each of the Dragon volumes, so getting them as you see them would work. There's a new release that I find very good, "Liquid Moves of Lars Gullin" which has live performances from different time periods, later than we usually hear Gullin, and they're very good. I also really enjoy "Portrait of my Pals," which has very good compositions, arrangements and playings, as well as great sound.
  21. amazon.co.uk shipped theirs yesterday.
  22. The excellent Impex gold CD. Wow.
  23. The real deal is that Clifford paid Pee Wee Marquette fifty dollars. . . and it happened.
