  1. Awesome news! Thanks bluesoul!
  2. Now playing Hank Mobley, "The Flip" (Jazz in Paris version released this month). Seems to match the mastering of the Connoisseur edition released by Blue Note in 2003; this edition has a production credit of 2003 for Blue Note Records, though it does say "Mastering coordinated by Francois de Xuan". . . . Too bad they didn't use the recent Japanese mastering . . . that is superior. Earlier today I played "Hard Bop" and "Django Reinhardt plays Django"--both sound excellent to me on my system.
  3. I really have never shared the enthusiasm so many do for "Blues and the Abstract Truth". . . I think it's alright but not the cat's meow. I first thought to add this album. . . I love it, it has so much of what I love of Ellington's work within it and it has beautiful sound. And I would include this Coltrane album on a list of jazz albums to experience. From first note to last it shows why this quartet was so influential, and it is music that has kept revealing subtleties to me over the decade. And any such review would need an Armstrong album. There are many possibilities. . . I love this one, a working band cutting a record while on tour, camaraderie and joy and artistry captured on tape:
  4. Lucy is enjoying the music so I've been selecting LPs she'd like. (Yes, Willie plays a Fender Jazzmaster on this one, sounds really nice). followed by
  5. Got to sneak in an hour or so. . . put this LP (2 LP set actually) on . . .sounds so beautiful. This is probably my favorite new jazz release of the last few years.
  6. Have a great day and many happy returns!
  7. The newly released Mono SACD.
  8. Listening to Side 2 and then Side 4 so I get both bands.
  9. Continuing with LPs. This one sounds great. . . I haven't listened to this release in either cd or LP form in a while.
  10. Auditioning a new set of interconnects with this LP. This LP is great for revealing subtle audio bits.
  11. McCoy later, and very different.
  12. The SHM-CD. Such a great album, KD and Joe are great together and McCoy, Butch and Pete are a great rhythm section. Very in your face sound with this reissue.

    Tony Bennett

Well, whatever you do don't title it "Strike up the Band."
  14. Oh I think we got the same or a bit lower price via jazz messengers, and we may get it as soon or sooner. . . we did alright. Wow, we're up this high in the volumes, I was wondering for a while if we would get there!

Well, as the label reads "Count Basie Swings, Tony Bennett Sings". . . if it were me that would be what I would tag or label the album. But then I'm not anal about these things. . . but for some time I've considered the label on a record to be the deciding factor as far as title and artist. . . .

If wikipedia is to believed, it should be "Basie Swings, Bennett Sings" . . . https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Strike_Up_the_Band_(album) The oldest covers I've found on the internet support this in a way: Though it's hard to say what to call the album from the cover as it has "Baie/Bennett" in bold letters and above that is printed "Count Basie and his Orchestra Swings/Tony Bennett Sings" . . . . I haven't found any images of the actual LP label, that in fact could tell us the exact title.
  17. back cover of "Garcia" 1974 (Jerry's second solo album, long time favorite).
  18. Garcia's second solo album. I have always loved this one and it sounds very nice.
  19. Right now, record one of this two LP set.
  20. Now on to Record 2. Make that GREAT, not decent, sound.
  21. Resonance Records is releasing more live Wes Montghomery in May, this time with the Wynton Kelly Trio! http://www.resonancerecords.org/release.php?cat=HCD-2029
  22. Record 1 Nice compilation of Kirk material, decent sound.
  23. It would have to be someone with a promo copy, this one doesn't come out til the end of next week. Looks promising, especially as it is out on Fantasy.
