  1. Modern bossa with Miho’s gentle sweet singing and a small jazzy combo with great arrangements. I have their follow up release as well.
  2. Cool, rainy morning. Was a tiring day yesterday, fixed the motorized insulated blind on the main living room window, augured out a non-draining bath tub, and unsuccessfully attempted to fix the dryer–three things going wrong at once. I’m feeling like just melting into the chair this morning. Starting off with Grateful Dead, “Enjoying the Ride” box set, Henry J. Kaiser Convention Center, Oakland, CA (11/21/85) disc 2 Then on to. . .. Les McCann “Never A Dull Moment! Live From Coast To Coast (1966-1967)” Resonance Records 3 cd set, disc 3
  3. Dan Barrett & Frank Roberscheuten “A Portrait of Duke” Arbors Jazz cd Dan Barrett (trombone, valve trombone, cornet), Frank Roberscheuten (clarinet, alto, and tenor saxophones), Tom Baker (cornet, trombone, tenor and alto saxophones), Joep Peeters (baritone and alto saxophones, vocals), Onno De Bruijn (drums, maracas), Karel Algoed (bass), and Christian Hopkins (piano). Recorded in April 1999 in the Netherlands Great sound and playing!
  4. A delightful coolness has settled in over night. I slept well. Always a nice experience. Jerry Garcia “Live at the Warfield 1991” disc 1 A six disc set released Friday of three shows at the Warfield Theatre in San Francisco in early 1991. Very good sound on this first one. Followed by Kenny Davern, “A Night with Eddie Condon” Arbors Jazz cd. This is a live recording from 1971 led by Condon, not released until 2001. The group included. guitarist Eddie Condon, trumpeter Bernie Privin, trombonist Lou McGarity, pianist Dill Jones, bassist Jack Lesberg, Kenny Davern clarinet and soprano saxophone, and Cliff Leeman, drummer. 550×550 546 KB
  5. I got a tracking number. As my grandfather would say "won't be long now said the cat whose tail got caught in the lawn mower." (He had his own way with words).
  6. Ricky Ford “Hard Groovin’” Muse cd Ricky Ford - tenor saxophone, alto saxophone Roy Hargrove – trumpet Geoff Keezer – piano Robert Hurst – bass Jeff “Tain” Watts – drums 200×200 69.1 KB

  8. There is not a whole lot of work with Bavan. I like it fine. . . it's another voice, another style than Ross, I can handle a different style injected in.
  9. Lambert, Hendricks & Bavan “Live at Basin Street East” RCA/BMG France cd
  10. Joe Farnsworth “In What Direction are you Heading?” Smoke Sessions cd
  11. Grateful Dead, “Enjoying the Ride” box set, Henry J. Kaiser Convention Center, Oakland, CA (11/21/85) disc 1
  12. Joe Locke “4 Walls of Freedom” Sirocco Music cd Starting a cool morning off with this one, a quartet recording with Bob Berg, James Genus and Gary Novak from 2003.
  13. Cool. I had all the material in the set when it came out except the unreleased live material which I was delighted to have. Now Joe Locke Quartet "Moment to Moment--the Music of Henry Mancini" Milestone cd
  14. I'm still "Processing." Something to look forward to!
  15. Eliane Elias “Illusions” Denon cd Acoustic Bass, Electric Bass – Stanley Clarke (2 tracks) Bass – Eddie Gomez Drums – Al Foster or Lenny White or Steve Gadd Harmonica – Toots Thielemans (2 tracks) Piano, Producer – Eliane Elias Recorded at R.P.M. Studios, N.Y.C. on Oct. 22, 23, 24, 1986
  16. I imagine Ravi has been consulted re: any tapes he may have still unreleased.
  17. David Bowie’s final work. . . pretty fascinating. Too compressed in mastering, but if I adjust my gain structure down it sounds better. David Bowie “Black Star” Sony Blu-Spec cd
  18. Time for a listen to this beautiful album. I love late Jobim. A family of musicians playing lovely music they love. Antonio Carlos Jobim “Passarim” Verve Japan cd
  19. Dan Barrett “Melody in Swing” on Arbor Jazz. Barrett is an amazing trombone player, one of the few modern men who mastered Jack Teagarden’s water glass as a trombone bell method. 200×200 8.83 KB
  20. I’m on to another Tom Harrell. His work captivates me and I often have to hear more than one at a sitting. I think it’s in part because his “sound” is very like my best friend’s on the trumpet, and I sense the connection. Another one on High Note, by that same great working band. Tom Harrell “The Time of the Sun” High Note
  21. Gene Ammons “Legends of Acid Jazz” Prestige cd
  22. Grateful Dead “One from the Vault” disc 2 “Blues for Allah” material and other songs performed for a select invited audience in great sound. Man this sounds so good today!
  23. 300×300 10.9 KB Count Basie “Basie Roars Again” Verve mono LP I’ll have to dig out the Verve Basie Mosaic set soon, this is a great LP also included in that set, from 1956.
  24. I have digital versions of this LP in stereo, but this mono Roulette LP has a rich sound of its own that I wanted to hear. Jack Teagarden “Portrait of Mr. T” Don Goldie was an excellent trumpeter and vocalist and is a real asset in the late Teagarden bands. And how cool to have a version of Bix’s “In the Dark”. . . .
  25. Erroll Garner “The Complete Concert by the Sea” disc 1 This release continues to fascinate me. I had earlier versions of this acclaimed and extremely popular release, but not only is the complete, twice as long as previously released, concert here, but the extraordinary Plangent Process has been used to TRANSFORM the sound here. And if I had a time machine I’d go back to this performance night and revel in the delight. I am certain that visually Garner is as riveting and involving as the audio material is for me. He was one of a kind and like other great pianists I love to hear he is a master of a musical universe. If you have been familiar with the other editions of this music the transformation of the sound is fascinating.
