  1. This is already available via worldsrecords.com
  2. Well, there should be still more, isn't there about 46 discs worth total of Django? Anyway, there are some great recordings in this batch.
  3. A family history (of the Armstrong side, my grandparents' generation) my Dad compiled and wrote and gave me for Christmas.
  4. It's a bitchin' set SS. Good to see you postin'!
  5. My first thought are the Booker Ervin dates with Byard, Davis and Dawson. I like Booker just fine, but these three make the albums for me.
  6. I think I first saw that cd listed a few years ago, so I'd say yes, though I don't have it to check, and I can't seem to find much info online.
  7. Looks as if it has the Pharoah Sanders title (expanded?), the Sun Ra with Black Harold title (expanded?), a Paul Bley and Pharoah Sanders session, and interview segments. I picked and chose bits of the videos because a) I dislike youtube and b) the connection was pokey. Personally, I'm torn because I really don't like interviews mixed on the same disc with music, and I'm not sure there's enough music I don't have that I have to have here. Perhaps I'll learn more when there's info on the webpage.
  8. Anyone remember the episode of a short-lived sitcom called "It's Like You Know" where they go to a doctor who has developed a method for people to forget what they want to? Yeah, it was sort of a rip of "The Sunshine of the Eternal Mind," but it was hilarious. That was a great series. Not available on dvd damnit!
  9. PM sent regarding the Giuffre/Bley/Swallow
  10. David, I really liked the Johnny Rae/Herbie Mann, all the Cannonballs, the Seldon Powell, the Tony Scott, and the Jeremy Steig.
  11. Yes, it was Wayne Shirter. What if he had found what he was looking for in Booby Hutcherson instead! Good points C. This thread inspired me to put on some Friday Night.
  12. I believe it's Daryl Hall. He was involved in the Legacy Tribute Band.
  13. Talented guys. Music doesn't do much for me though. Too Corea Fusion-ish.
  14. It's not bad until it tries to be "intense" and then it becomes unintentionally funny. Juliette Lewis on tv though, I'm still surprised.
  15. I've a few of those Duke lps from the 'seventies. I enjoyed them then, and they're good time fun funk music. But this is low on my priority to buy. The one with Purim . . . not sure I've heard it, should fix that.
  16. Ethiopian instruments: krar and masenqo
  17. Lyre, found in Ur, Iraq, circa 2600 BCE
  18. Serious question: What became of son guitarist Shuggie Otis? He got some play years ago, then the press seemed to drop him like he had a disease. Anyone know his doings? He seemed pretty talented. According to wikipedia, he may have a new release out this year.
  19. A great show. I watched the entire series again about six weeks ago.
  20. Yes, I don't see a cult at all, a few very vocal fans and a large number of those who enjoy his recordings. Michael Cuscuna is I believe a very influential fan who has done his best to get the music out there. Thanks Michael, for many things.
