Have a great one Paul and many happy returns!
-
I definitely respect that decision as well. Mr. Moody, all the best, keep getting well.
-
Glad it was a great one M. Russell! Many many happy returns!

It is indeed great ! The innards of my box were damaged on one corner though (box fine) so a replacement is on its way. And as you say, those CDs are an absolute pain to replace in their 'slots'. Glad I'm not alone there... mine arrived in fine condition, luckily. The box was flimsy and huge (almost as our beloved boxes from zweitausendeins back in the day when they had these amazing ZYX/Fantasy offers) but inside, everything was ok. I don't often complain about silly packaging, I can handle most of it (ok, my fingers get rusty from the Bill Evans Verve box, too - but I like the idea of the rusty box a lot) but this here is just silly! If it's a bit of a drag to get discs out and back in with some boxed sets, that's one thing, but if you're afraid of breaking a disc just to get it out, that's more than annoying! I took the discs out and put them in a four-banger, even made artwork. Much easier to get to all around.

Which Jazz box set are you grooving to right now?
jazzbo replied to Cliff Englewood's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
Exactly. -
I bought this recently as well, sounds good, a bit different than the Japanese version.
-
"Rise," Gary Bartz and Nu Troop.

Which Jazz box set are you grooving to right now?
jazzbo replied to Cliff Englewood's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
Listening to this I had a chuckle wondering what would happen if someone really took this title seriously, and thought "I got this great budget four disc set packed with tunes, and it's THE BEST of Ellington. I'm set." And then one day bought "A Drum is a Woman," the Mosaic "Newport," "The Far East Suite," or "Blues in Orbit" or "The Jaywalker". . . . -
Back In Stock The Complete Capitol Bobby Hackett Solo Sessions "Long out of print, and, it must be said, neglected by many collectors who should have known better, some of Bobby Hackett's most beautiful recorded work now comes back into view, helping to round out the legacy of a truly great musician" - Dan Morgenstern, original liner notes Bobby Hackett's 1953-1959 Capitol recordings include quartet sessions with excellent rhythm sections (some with Dave McKenna and Buzzy Drootin) and an unusual and interesting band that Hackett led at the Henry Hudson Hotel in New York City, which included Bob Wilber, Ernie Caceres, Milt Hinton and Dick Cary in a number of standards and originals. The Complete Roulette Sarah Vaughan Studio Sessions "Not unlike July Fourth fireworks, bursting forth on 8 CDs you will be easily overpowered as you are swept away to a time (1960-1963) when Sarah was at her most pure and consistent. The transfers are remarkably clean and actually ear shattering. What you will hear is her magnificent timing, intonation and great harmonic sense throughout. The selections range from a fine mix of jazz and classic popular songs. In all there are 13 albums and 28 rare and unobtainable singles which are here for the collector and all knowing vigilant fan. " - Dan Singer, In Tune International New Mosaic Select Releases Upcoming Releases The Definitive Songs. The Definitive Orchestra. And Now... The DEFINITIVE Edition The Complete 1932-1940 Brunswick, Columbia, and Master Recordings of Duke Ellington and His Famous Orchestra (11 CDs) Upcoming Release - Available End of Nov/Early Dec "Sophisticated Lady." "Stormy Weather." "Solitude." "In a Sentimental Mood." "Echoes of Harlem." "Caravan." All of them and many more are a part of "The Complete 1932-1940 Brunswick, Columbia, and Master Recordings of Duke Ellington and His Famous Orchestra," an unprecedented 11-CD set that compiles these recordings for the first, and quite possibly the last, time. There would be many more exceptional compositions in the years following, including his highly regarded suites and longer works, but the scope of our latest, lavish Mosaic collection is the period when Ellington would establish himself as the most important composer ever in jazz. Limited Edition - 5,000 11 CDs (MD11-248)/ $179 -------------------------------------------------------------------- There Are Jazz Giants. And There Is Royalty. Mosaic Presents Ella And Duke Live! Ella & Duke at the Cote D'Azur (3 LPs) Upcoming Release - Available late November Mosaic's 3 LP re-release of "Ella & Duke at the Cote D'Azur" on 180-gram audipophile vinyl recaptures this historic event for a new generation of listeners. It is a re-release of the original 2-LP set, plus the Ellington album "Soul Call" issued from the same concerts. Essentially, our set presents everything that was chosen, approved and released by the producer and the artists at the time. Recording live to two-track stereo is no easy feat. The engineer has captured each instrument or voice with just the right microphone and equalization from the get-go. Even more challenging is capture the right balance among the many musicians to get the essence and clarity of the music. So it's a real pity that the engineer who did such a great job of recording Ella Fitzgerald and Duke Ellington at the Antibes Jazz Festival in Juan-les-Pins, France has gone uncredited. From the original source tapes, the sound on these 180-gram LPs mastered by Kevin Gray and pressed at RTI in Camarillo is warm and brilliant. This LP collection includes 20 compositions, an historical analysis and track by track breakdown by Brian Preistley, plus many rarely seen photographs. It includes something else - history. Please don't miss owning it. 3 Audiophile LPs/ Limited Edition 5,000 (MRLP- 3002) $90

Right, it's a legal reiusse in the EU, but not an "approved" one. Michael Cuscuna is a rare record company man. . . actually concerned with things like the original artist's and producer's opinion and intention! Who else does that? Has to be very few in the industry.

Thanks for the heads up! I pre=ordered this with the new Cassandra Wilson.

Hmm. . . Live Airplane is not always that exciting to listen to. . . . I'm going to pass.

Yeah, CNN is projecting right now Republicans are winning at least fifty seats in the House of Representatives. Pfui. (What I expected).

Chuck Season 3 on Blu-Ray I've always loved the theme song, which is a portion of "I Want a Girl with A Short Skirt and a Long Jacket" by Can, and that song is really "Sweet Jane" with different lyrics. . . . .

Almost any of the Waller boxes is a great choice, the music is so uniformly great. I'll echo Stompy and say the second is a great one. . . . My guess is the JSP box is likely a rip of the Affinty box set of Hawkins material. The sound on that was okay, so I suspect that this box set will have good sound. Maybe these were taken from Classics discs, again, that's a sign of good sound.

The sound on the Mono box, remastered by Mark Wilder, is really good imo.

Chet Baker - Complete Barclay Sessions
jazzbo replied to mikelz777's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
ImportCDs has been a good vendor in my experience. Nice score. This is a very nice box set. Yes, the material would have fitted on a smaller number of discs, but the presentation makes sense. The mastering is excellent. The booklet (I was surprised at how easily I read the French after all these years) is superb. -
A must for the Nichols fan!
