  1. Hope it's a great one and many happy returns!
  2. Many happy happy returns Mr. Brown!
  3. An old cd called I think "Capitol Stampede" on Capitol/EMI is well worth seeking out. I've collected all the Chronogical Classics that were put out of Hawk in the 'forties, they're all great listens.
  4. Sons of Anarchy, this week's episode, again.
  5. Yes, those 'bones are great to hear!
  6. I saw the Ohio Players several times in the 'seventies (and was even present at a show that was televised nationally) and would say I've chosen to put their recordings on my stereo more than the Beatles in my life. So I interpreted this to mirror my personal feelings about the bands.
  7. Seems more like a Freeman than a Young player to me (with or without possible playing neuroses). Boston man, buddy of Braff and a good player!
  8. I don't have the Fresh Sounds reissue, but I do like the recording, it's not top-shelf Weston, but I've listened to it a half dozen times and it's staying as I'm sort of a Weston completist.
  9. An excellent cd, in great sound, both studio and live. I have collected quite a bit of material by this group and it's not startlingly different, but they're very seasoned and playful with the material. Going to have to check out the "autobiography" that is "arranged" by Willard Jenkins. . . . But maybe next year sometime. I already have a year's worth of reading piled up waiting for me!
  10. It sure was. Glad you made it! I saw Clifford there. I haven't quite figured out exactly what Al MacDowell did with that bass guitar to make it sound the way it did, but it was a pleasant surprise and made for an exciting show! How many times did Ornette quote "What a Friend We Have in Jesus?" Six or seven times? I found that quite amusing.
  11. Actually I believe I read that they did run out, weeks after release, and repressed.
  12. Bertrand, I don't have the details at hand, but I've heard from a collector and read online that the material on that cd is NOT Larry Young and Hendrix but another organist. Anyway I think none of the material you list is actually the jam with Larry Young that is on the box set.
  13. (Note this is from what Fox calls a Nazi source, the NPR.) http://www.npr.org/blogs/ablogsupreme/2010/11/09/131193798/arranging-randy-weston-s-biography
  14. Yeah RT, I don't have my set yet, but this looks like more than I would have expected from a non-Dagger Records release and some material that most collectors don't have. The draw for me is the sonics of material I have in bootleg in not so great sound. Looks like a successful release to me, and I'm looking forward to hearing the set, very much so.
  15. Huh. Bertrand, I don't think there's much more Jimi and Larry to present.
  16. I have mine on the way from amazon. Looks GREAT. The dvd is of the excellent film that was run on the bio channel; is all words by Jimi, narrated by Booty Collins.
  17. Yes, I checked on that too. Went with my late wife last time. . . before her illness. . .it was a great show! Looking forward to tomorrow!
  18. I'm convinced that is probably so. I am quite an introvert. Used to be a professional extrovert, then a big introvert on my own time. in the Briggs-Meyer I test INFJ, with really strong I and F.
  19. I find that one so rarely hears unamplified music anymore that what I hear live is not necessarily what I want. In my case most of what I hear live is routed through a PA. . . even when it shouldn't be, such as a little combo in a small club. Exasperating!
  20. I like many of the outfits, but I'd have to say my real favorite is the Morgan-Shorter-Timmons-Meritt-Blakey band. Bu is not one of my favorite drummers, but he's a good bandleader and all four of these employees were amazing. And there was no shortage of composers and interesting compositions here.
  21. The man liked hot jazz and had an awful lot of good selections. I'd have liked to have met him and talked to him about the early decades.
  22. Got the V Blu-Ray set. It was a good deal. Pretty weak show, but it looks and sounds nice. I like it better on disc than on broadcast thank goodness.
  23. Seems quite reasonable that there would be some sadness associated with this razing! Actually, to be honest, I'm rather surprised it's been standing about as long as it has in this modern country.
  24. Watched last night's SNL. Scarlett looked great. Wasn't a very funny show however.
