  1. I agree, that's a great disc in all aspects.
  2. Many many more happy happy returns!
  3. Absolutely. Pigpen! Gone but not forgotten. Keith, Brent, Vince and Bruce (?) on occasion as well.
  4. Lots of non-organists and non-organ bands talked about here! Jim has kindly set this up as a music discussion band. There are a number of Dead fans here, and the Dead have a large number of recordings to collect and listen to and discuss, so it doesn't really surprise me. Obviously, I don't feel that the Dead are an over-rated band and I'be been listening to them on and off since the beginning of the 'seventies. So I'm glad there's this thread! Looking forward to whatever pre-Brent material they reissue next. . . .
  5. Hope it's a great one and many many more to come!
  6. I was listening to disc two of a four disc set. I think this is the material: http://www.dead.net/forum/acid-test-vine
  7. Wallace, thanks for rescuing that collection. 'S a good thing. I listened to a disc of the bootleg "Acid Test" stuff today. Now that was psychedelic.
  8. Many MANY happy happy returns!
  9. Many MANY happy returns Jack!
  10. I've heard Unity. This stuff just isn't what I want to hear of all the many different Ra recordings I have. Glad others dig it!
  11. Okay, so "re-imagined" wasn't the right word. But they are filtered through the active imaginations of this band, and they aren't really an attempt (in my opinion) to get the original sound and feel. Either way, they don't work for me, I skip them on anything I have, and I don't really collect Ra after the mid-seventies in general, for a number of reasons. Love the work previous to that though, can hardly get enough.
  12. I'm skipping this Sun Ra. This is a side of Ra's work (the re-imagining of swing era charts) I don't listen to.
  13. We need him to come back to the States!
  14. Midnight in Paris has been on CBS France cd several times. I believe All American MAY have been on cd from CBS France (I think I read it was, but I"ve never seen one.) Yeah Stompy, I'd love to see all the tracks from those lps in one place on cd.
  15. Joe, CBS France released a five cd set (well, possibly only five separate cd "Volumes") in the early nineties of 1947-1952 Columbia recordings. The fifth had the Liberian Suite and Masterpieces by Ellington. I spent over a hundred dollars on these, and they've brought me a lot of great listening hours.
  16. Welcome Remco, I'd be all for any of those sets. I wonder how the market for cds even from specialty labels will be in the future. Hopefully provident for this type of release.
  17. Hope you had a wonderful day and many happy returns.
  18. A beautiful woman and wonderful singer. A sad loss.
  19. Just a note: I bought two of the first batch of XRCDs (Soul Station and True Blue) to check them out, and they sound fantastic. And I paid 23 dollars each for them after they'd been out a bit (from deepdiscountcd).
  20. I"m neither of those two, but I'd highly recommend Damnation, Watershed, or Ghost Reveries.
  21. Good lord! I hope you have emergency meds handy.
  22. Sound is very good. There's another thread here. I really feel this is a great set.
