New Soul Station XRCD Blue Note - out now. Sounds great!
jazzbo replied to monkboughtlunch's topic in Re-issues
I'm not vindicating McMasters, that's for sure, i don't even like the sound of his 24 bit remasters much, they just sound so digital to me, thin and brittle. It is interesting to hear the two Blue Notes I have on XRCD. Very well done. . . similar in some ways to the TOCJ versions so cherished by many here, but crisper and more "involving" for me at least. -
Actually a Red Garland on Galaxy would be a great set, good idea Tom. Dave, you don't mean that complete Prestige Miles Davis set? THAT is not coming from CONCORD but a European label taking advantage of the Copyright laws.

New Soul Station XRCD Blue Note - out now. Sounds great!
jazzbo replied to monkboughtlunch's topic in Re-issues
I think this one sounds really good. I like the RVG too, I'm keeping both. Don't remember the McMaster, it's been gone from my shelves for years. True Blue sounds great too in this XRCD edition. I'm not sure I'm buying many more of the announced titles. I wish that these audiophile issues could be of less quartet and quintet and trio etc. titles. I'd love to see titles like Joy Spring, The Prisoner, Trying to Get Home, Lift Every Voice. . . larger ensemble sessions would really sound nice in XRCD. Or SACDC (I haven't bought any of those yet. . . ) -
Well, that's like real life insn't it? That's part of what I enjoy about this show, that it feels free to entertain . . . and to annoy. . . .Doesn't play it safe. Anyway, this is the final season and I'm glad of it. They're quiting while they're still relatively "on." This morning I watched the episode of Leverage I taped last night. Meh. And last week's "Caprica" again. That's an interesting show.

Many many more happy happy ones!

OH I knew that. You may like her. . . she's especially striking a listen when you're in love or with a special someone! Her words and the mood of her music then connects as it doesn't at other times, for me at least. She's been a part of the soundtrack of the romance I've been living in since May 2008.

Upcoming 4CD Set - Nat Cole Radio Transcriptions
jazzbo replied to tranemonk's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
It took me a while but I finally got that set too, with the help of a member here. I like it! There are better Cole collections, granted. I'm a big fan of the Trio though. Much prefer the Trio Cole to the Singing Star Cole. -
I watched that clip this morning. I'm not that crazy about this title song, but I bet the cd is great. Nice to see her, she has the same "band" of musicians with her as for her last big tour.

I miss Ana Lucia and Libby. They both were good additions to the show in my estimation. The new season has started. . .three episodes (two weeks, last week they aired two episodes back to back "as one") in. . . . Last night's had some unlikely scenarios that didn't exactly turn me on. But I'll watch every one they broadcast.

The fact that this is not the Hoffman forum doesn't mean that sound quality can't be discussed. That forum's got nothing to do with this discussion here. As with reverb, you can't remove noise reduction artefacts that are "on the disc", whatever system you have. Not to beat a dead horse, but I didn't say that I could remove NR artifacts. It's just that my speakers are not of a conventional front-firing only design, and their presentation allows this material to sound better to me than the material with added reverb. I can make changes too to the tonal balance that helps "enliven" the sound. I've learned to covet this flexibility; it makes me less a prisoner of a cd's sonic signature. Captain Wrong, my apologies if I've contributed to the thread going astray. I don't think there's a difference between the two editions of this set, and I think the price is okay, and the music is great.

I do think she's beautiful. Very much so. And she's so sexy in such a dignified way. I'm so happy my girlfriend also loves her music.

Yeah to each their own. Added reverb really bothers me as much as the NR seems to bother you. I can deal with that better. My "Radial" speakers help me. I kept one of the Jazz Tribunes as it has more of the Town Hall Concert than the box. And that's a great concert. Anyway, this is not the Hoffman forum. The music is great! I really enjy this period of Armstrong.

Thanks for the headsup on that, I'll see if I can find a clip to watch the Today Show. I know you like her singing. And it's okay if Bev doesn't, he likes other singers that I . . . don't. I'd love Sade even if she didn't sing and write so well.
-
Well, neither is perfect as far as I'm concerned. I hear reverb in the Jazz Tribunes that I don't want to hear. Those Jazz Tribunes may be harder and more expensive to find. I've said this before, but I worked on having a flexible system and not obsessing so much on remasterings. . . I can get them all to sound good enough to just enjoy the music. This music is well worth having, however one can.

Great music, worth 40 dollars.

Upcoming 4CD Set - Nat Cole Radio Transcriptions
jazzbo replied to tranemonk's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
Likely to be material I already have so I'm not going or it. But I love Nat at the piano. -
Hey to each their own. She's a favorite of mine. I have the new one in the mail to me.
-
Yeah that was a good episode.

What a ride huh Flurin? I've watched all the seasons through Five three times so far, and enjoy them each time through. PS, as great as they look on dvd on Blu-Ray. . . WOW. Picture AND sound are amazing.
