  1. Many of the very earliest Japanese Blue Notes used the same remasterings as the US versions. Also some later ones. Examples that I have are two Lee Morgans, one The Rajah, the other Standards.
  2. I have this in a 2000 release from Japan, a K2 remastered (very nice sounding) jewel case cd, MVCZ-10097. This is part of an excellent K2 series of remasters that weren't too expensive at that time. They were imported to the US by Tower and a few other chains.
  3. Many many many more happy ones Al!
  4. I don't think so. Nope. It's far more complicated than that. But it is fun to post pictures of Rose Byrne.

  6. One more time and many more times!
  7. I tuned in about three times and lingered a few minutes. Got lucky, the last time was right as Neil Young came on. I tuned in about three times and lingered a few minutes. Got lucky, the last time was right as Neil Young came on.

    New Miles?

I'm pretty sure the Dragon Miles four cd set has been cleared and made legitimate; back in the mid-nineties when all the Miles boots were bing pulled from the shelves and not able to be reordered that one (and in its DIW form as well) was always around and remains available.
  12. I've had all the Washington sets for years. Really enjoy all of them, though I think Volkher and I enjoy the same material the most. Maybe one day we'll see the complete Dinah Washington memory stick.
  13. Joyeux anniversaire Michel!
  14. My guess not master tapes. Some may be from previous cd issues from the US, Europe or Japan. They're legal for sale outside the US. But they're distributed for sale in the US. There's the rub.
  15. This is available on cd on this two cd set released last year: And I also have the performance is on this Blu-Ray set:
  16. Winter IS the real deal. I played Second Winter, especially the third and final side, over and over for a few years. He's not a poser, a wanker. He knows it back and forth. I find it interesting here that he uses a Fender 12 string with just 6 strings. I imagine the pickups make that a hot and biting sound. No Gibson Firebird here.
  17. I mentioned this on the board a while back. INCREDIBLE. Johnny was one of the very best then.
  18. Overall I'd say it does deliver. There are several directions it's taken that I wouldn't have, but I'm not a writer for the show. It's entertaining. One actor's work sort of bores me, unfortunately he's one of the main characters. He's sort of like a blend of the finer acting skills of Nick Cage and Keanu Reeves. But hey, chicks dig him. I think they know the versatility of the premise and will milk it pretty competently. There are actors from Lost, Mad Men and a few other shows here. It was beginning to sag around episode 8 or so of the ten they've broadcast. It's been on hiatus and is returning in three weeks. Whether it's going to be better. . . or worse. . . or unchanged is anyone's guess right now.
  19. Darn! Well let's hope it goes on sale again. I bought it when it first came out and it was expensive, with expensive mailing charges!

    New Miles?

I have no idea. But they're not getting any money out of Gambit.
  21. I like RVG editions apparently more than most people. To me on my system they appear to be more "live" -- to sound more like a live performance, where I have a front of stage table, than a recorded studio performance, and I like that. Also the pre-tape RVG reissues sound fantastic to me, better than anything else I've heard of those sessions. There's definitely a place for these SACDs and XRCDs for those who have demanding stereo systems and demanding ears and who want the most HIFI sound of these classic sessions. I bought two of the XRCDs and think they're very well done. I don't think I'll buy any more of the first 25. I have all the titles in at least one other version and I just feel that it's time to stop rebuying these sessions over and over. I'd be a lot more tempted if the choices were less "safe." I'd love to see the "hot jazz" on Blue Note reissued in this series or the early modern jazz of Monk and Bud and others on the label. And just for the variety and to hear what these would sound like in this sort of mastering I'd love to see larger ensemble titles such as Joy Ride, Delightful Lee, Lift Every Voice appear in this series. I'd surrender to temptation then most likely. But mainly we have quintet and quartet dates and a safe sameness to the selections. Welcome Hannibal!

    New Miles?

Right, but they're likely NOT legitimate in the USA. Kindof sucks. They're becoming more available though. So perhaps the estate has begun to feel differently, or simply won't spend the money to intimidate vendors etc. Of course my perception of the legal aspects may be totally wrong. . . I'd appreciate correction.
