On the Armstrong, sounds as if the tea was a little strong, and there was some backstage toasting going on, but overall I don't think it's that much an "off" night. A lot of fun, even a telling of the "allligator joke." And great sound.

Best of luck Cha! (Who will be the first in a few months to start a "Where's Chaney????" thread?

The reason I actually had fun watching the Transformers movie! Me too! Plus . . .that really cool new Camaro!

The most recent really great set of liner notes I've read. . . were Chris A's for the Basie Verve Mosaic set. Outstanding! Very little else has been too impressive. (I'm pretty sure the Ellington and Berry Mosaics of recent times have really good notes, I've listened to the sets a lot but not really read the notes; just hard to get interested in liner notes like I used to). I used to devour liner notes, pore over them. . . now I rarely spend too much time with them. That's more a change in me than anything else.

That's right, Sade is MY earth goddess (she insists no capitalization). Helen Folasade Adu She's closer to my age. Scarlett is way way too young for me! -
I have advanced Columbia cdr copies of this set. I think it's fantastic in sound and performance. I can't wait for the real copy to come out. I am not in my home but out of town for months, and I can't compare mixes directly to the originals, but I know the originals well and there isn't that much difference. To my ears and mind the previouisly unreleased material is very gratifying to have.

Sometimes for weeks now on the same sites I see "September 18" and "September 25"! Hope it's not delayed.

She's not really my type, but if Shawn likes her, I'd welcome her into the family. -
I don't know how that came to be. I have that one too. Glorious. I also know that this has been released as two separate cds (I think that's correct, Vol. 1 and Vol. 2) by Mobile Fidelity Lab. . . (though I never bothered to pony up the large dollars for those). I'll buy any Monk with Frank Dunlop. (Okay, I'll buy any Monk, but especially with Dunlop, my favorite Monk drummer.)

I'll say one thing about the Keepnews series: the sound is awesome! (I even prefer the sound to K2 and DCC versions of some titles I've heard). For that reason I may get the Town Hall and maybe the Clark Terry, because those are albums I really dig. . . and the improved sound would be cool!

I like the sound on these a lot, and the sound on the 16bit jewel case editions that preceded them is also excellent. What a great series the Savoy/Denon cds were.

I don't know how many dvds there've been. . . I've only ever seen two, one the original release, one the Director's Cut. I saw the film on its original theatrical run and several times on dvd. I really DO like this film. It's very different than the novel (which I also really like) and at first that sort of riled me, but I've learnt to really say "vive la difference."

NO, I can play anything around you. . .almost. Just there's too many miles between us! -
I added this info to the Film Corner thread, not really realizing/remembering that there was a DVD Corner thread . . . . I've always been fascinated with Blade Runner and how it differs from the novel it's "based" on and the twisting and turning road it took to the cinema. Well, I've been reading about "Blade Runner" again recently and started to look around and see if the "Dark Days" documentary was around, and whether there were plans for a 25th anniversary edition and lo and behold. . . there are going to be 2 disc, 4 disc and a 5 disc version released December 18! I've preordered the 5 disc version as the fifth disc is the only version of the set that includes the infamous "work print" that was accidentally released after the theatrical version and was largely responsible for a lot of critical reappraisal and a theatrical rerelease of the film and the "Director's Cut". . . . http://hddvd.highdefdigest.com/355/bladerunner.html

Similar to what Verve reportedly did/does for Japanese reissues. . . .Digital copies of the master tapes from which Japanese cds were mastered.

I skipped the Diz, picked up the Pops, Miles and Monk. Really like them all. Sure, the Pops isn't HIS best All Stars date but it's fun for me to have and hear.

I don't play music for many friends, most that I do will listen to most anything Brazilian and any of the blues, and funk and rock I have (though some not the Dead) and most jazz that's swing or mainstream oriented. I have one friend I can play almost anything except avant garde jazz with/for. . . he just doesn't enjoy New Thing and beyond much at all. -
Some evil influences, yes, but this was a pull to the bright side. You'll enjoy this box set! I preordered it and received it just to get Vol. 4! I sold two of the first three volumes I'd purchased earlier and recouped some cost. It's a great great set.
-
kh, I also highly recommend that Storyville box!
-
I'm not arguing with you. I see this as the price of doing business. My guess: To get this out, to make money on it, the estate probably dictated this price point. All cds are going up in price all over. So this is the new improved price of this kind of box set. It's the last one. . . not planned. . . I'm going to be glad to have it and there's not likely to be more. . . .
-
Hmmm. . .my earlier preorder price from cduniverse is four dollars cheaper. Big whoop! I agree it's pricey. . . but it still feels the same, sort of inflationwise, to me, considering the metal spine (which Cellar Door no got, right?) and to me it seems to have the same fiscal bite as the Evans/Davis box did when it came out (and how I love that one). I can tell you music wise this is a great box, seems the notes aren't going to top some of the others' if Tingen is to be believed.

I thought Bob Scobey was the uncrowned king? Just joking, though I have to tell you I've been listening to his recordings lately and man I like his playing!

This page about Explore Records lists some of the family releases title by title. . . appears to be an English label. I hope they're not ripping the family off! http://www.explorerecords.com/explore_jazz_pr.pdf

I think it's the same material as this release from the family, and I hope it's a new legitimate version. . .. http://www.theloniousrecords.com/Merchant2...ategory_Code=AC The RVG involvement is what makes me pretty sure this is the case.
