Marcel, not too late! THANKS! Larry, thanks, my friend. This whole thread has done a lot for my mood. Aprreciated, each and every post!

Verve has Newport coming up. . . . Blue Note has two "Live at Birdland" cd reissues upcoming: Basie and Maynard: August 14. Both are expanded and should be excellent! (I've got the music in Mosaic sets).

That would be AnDREW Griffith, the drummer par excellence. -
Thanks everyone! Just got back from the clinic with Helen and the real birthday begins: lunch with one of my best buds soon, and maybe a movie and maybe dinner at Fonda San Miguel. . .!
-
The Bud Freeman, the Al Cohn, the Art Blakey, the Slide Hampton and the Lee Wiley.
-
Thanks for that bit of info. . . though. . . I don't really hear a sound quality diminishment but maybe there is. . . . It was a fantastic night! Glad it was all captured and eventually released!
-
HAPPY BIRTHDAY POPS! Yes, LAL I have those blues singer sides on King Jazz cds. . . some amazing stuff! Right now watching the Louis Armstrong Jazz Icon release.
-
Thanks everyone! Conrad, it seems hard to imagine, but here's hoping! (I'm hoping for a "better than before" since I'll be able to leave the political-machine driven state job I have and retire in about ten months, to work part time in the 'hood!)

I don't know, but it almost looks like something from the "Jimi Hendrix" movie. Sure, could be. . . don't remember seeing that scene. I just know that she was among the few that accompanied him on that "vacation". . . and this is only the second picture I've seen of her.
-
Looks like some nice stuff (looks like some nice music too!) It's fun to make cover art isn't it? I have a lot of fun doing it as well; made about a hundred covers for Hendrix things. . . .
-
Cool! I'm west of you and north of you (I think) in the Alta Vista neighborhood near the Rosedale neighborhood!
-
Oh yeah, will be spinning some Jimi again soon, did spin the Ottawa concet this morning. Found another picture showing Jimi's pal Colette Mimran! This is possibly from the Moroccan vacation? http://brumepourpre.ifrance.com/Mirman.jpg

How is the New Mosaic single Newport 1958 ?
jazzbo replied to Jazztropic's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
I think the point about the three track tapes is that they had portions edited out and disposed of where applause and announcements had been added on. Michael Cuscuna and Mark Wilder apparently chose the mono tape as it was complete and they could then recreate the complete studio session without pieces removed. Chuck, Swining: I found my lp this morning. It's STEREO. I found that my preamp that has the phono circuit and that I use with my turntable had the mono button on. . . I listened to it in mono last time, but it's a stereo copy. Not the widest stereo of the time, but stereo. . . .Sounds like "true stereo" from the cut up three track masters no doubt. -
Thanks everyone! I'm feelling lifted up by all well wishes, and Helen will be too! Dan, yes one in three is pretty good. . . and I'm hopeful and I'm trying my best to get Helen hopeful and maintain it through all the toughness ahead! No transfusion was needed today and I made it in to work. Right now some Ohio Players are going (Jass-Ay-Lay-Dee) which always puts me in a good mood, after that. . . Louis!
-
Thanks all. . . I'm getting ready to take Helen to the clinic for a test and most likely to the hospital for a platelet transfusion. . . and checking my phone and email for work as well. . .if I get through all this in the next ten hours or so tomorrow will feel like a birthday indeed. Yes, sharing a birthday with Louis is great. . . I can always celebrate his with a hearty enthusiasm!
-
Thanks E! I know I'm appreciated, I just wish I could do more for her. I've been crazy about Helen since 1973 and I need her. Through more than a year of querying the database and paying big dollars for testing only one donor has ever appeared. . . a 9/10 match. . . which guarantees host vs. graft disease of some extent, making this a risky procedure. The donor has agreed to the process this week, has been tested, and will probably within the next few days give the hospital a "collection" date, and then we'll know when to show up in Houston.
-
Thanks mes amis. . . . . Scott, I need those wishes for a better year. . . because it's looking to be a nightmare, with my wife now diagnosed with MDS (myelodysplastic syndrome) from all the chemotherapy she's had and we're in a matter of weeks facing the beginning of treatment for an unmatched donor bone marrow transplant. . . .According to our doctors I have a one in three chance of having a cured healthy wife after about six or more months in Houston at M. D. Anderson and environs. I'm not really putting much effort into celebrating my birthday, just trying to keep myself grounded one day at a time as I struggle to do as much work as I can while also preparing for what's ahead.

How is the New Mosaic single Newport 1958 ?
jazzbo replied to Jazztropic's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
Maybe. But I think MC has enough reissue experience that if he says that he couldn't or wouldn't use the tape that means he had his hands on it. -
Now listening to a few discs of the Complete RCA box set. (Why isn't all of Town Hall on a box set purporting to be complete? You'd think OK had a hand in it!) Such powerful music! Happy Birthday Pops! (Comin' up tomorrow!)

Michel Petrucciani: Complete Blue Note Recordings
jazzbo replied to CJ Shearn's topic in Recommendations
I feel similarly to Guy I think. . . .I really don't have issues with his playing, the man had a phenomenal talent, but I just never connected emotionally to any of the music. It just spilled out of the speakers and missed me. I did like the trio with Hall and Shorter most. . . probably because of Hall. My interest in Wayne was then wayning and I just let the whole box set go. -

How is the New Mosaic single Newport 1958 ?
jazzbo replied to Jazztropic's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
The Mosaic Single notes do offer an explanation, I was wrong: according to those the 3 track tapes were cut up to make the lp master (intertwined with applause, announcements, etc.) so they used the uncut mono tapes. -
