  1. The Stone box was mispriced at bestbuy for 9.99. Some orders were honored, many were not.
  2. I predict you're going to be glad you got it. I've got two copies now, one is going to be a gift.
  3. I'm on the same page with Chuck. Last order was a lot of George Lewis.
  4. I had all these except the Collection, which I don't think I need (?) But thanks for the headsup.
  5. One of my best friends of college, now a music professor--the esteemed Ramon Satyendra-- has described Max's hi-hat playing to me as a "force of nature." Not saying I disagree!
  6. I've come to love all the Fats I've heard. What a personality! What a pianist! He gets it all jumpin' and his musicians are good trampolines. Whenever it gets dark, Fats can pull me out of shadow. I love the Soundies!
  7. I'll second this recommendation; I got it from Newbury for a bit more, a few months ago, and I've had the music on lps and cd for some time. . . this is really quite a box set!
  8. Randy Weston Select. . . disc two. . . . This is such a great set.
  9. Ah, a "fellow traveler!" Things are getting really weird at my joint as they are splitting the agency up in the next two months and the statewide procurement functions are going to the Comptrollers and the facilities programs are staying put and being a new agency. I can't wait to retire. . . I guess the next year will go really quickly. .. I hope so. Thanks for the birthday wish, it was a good one, and I'm going to get a bit of a replay as two friends of ours (Betsy and Linda) are taking Me (and Helen) out to dinner tomorrow night as a "present."
  10. I find his work with Bird fascinating. It's fun to hear how he came from the sound and style right before him and developed such a support for Bird's flight. His is a flame full of oxygen and intense bright light. I might prefer for daily use something like the blue spitting and swinging flame of Kenny Clarke. . . but Max is the best contrast around.
  11. I only have the remastered TFTO, so I can't compare it to an earlier cd, but I think you'd be quite pleased if you pick it up.
  12. I'm with Dan and Jim!
  13. I don't think Steve White was related to Paul at all!
  14. Hey! What's up with listening to Mosaic on this thread! Just teasing. I actually really enjoy that drum battle disc, but then I used to be a drummer!
  15. Yep, and as unlikely as that pairing sounds it's actually quite good. Yes, it sure is!
  16. Shawn, hope all is going well in your new venture and have a fantastic day!
  17. Sorry. Here I was thinking "an Executive is an Executive."
  18. Okay I'm trying to see your point. . . . The GW machine in Texas Government has forever tainted my perception and reaction to the word "Executive". . . .
  19. I'd be tempted (in your shoes) to call your new band.. .. .. "My New Band." People would remember it. When you wanted to you could always promote it as "Jim Sangrey Presents. . .My New Band." Ego leads to success.
  20. Ron, that means a lot! You're a friend indeed.
  21. Yes, I have the concert in the Jazz Tribune RCA series. Well, like Shawn, I had to listen to "Ambassador Satch" today, and did so twice! Then I listened to several Ruby Braff cds on Arbors, he's almost as good as listening to Satch himself. Happy Birthday Pops!
