Well, at least for me I was right, it's GOOD! So glad this is out.
-
I haven't seen mention of this yet, so I'd like to mention three new reissues of albums by the band Stuff. Wounded Bird has released "Stuff" and "Stuff It". . . . Collectables just put out a cd containing both "Live in New York" and "More Stuff." 'Bout flippin' time.
-
Well, I like it all really. Need to revisit this soon, but I'm glad I have it.
-
Got my shipping notice as well!

I use an Access based internet database for work that requires a right click for filtering. . . I ended up not being able to use my iBook for this database for another reason (there was some sort of three month limit to the use of the Citrix reader it needed, and after that expired I couldn't use the database. As a result I have to lug an agency PC laptop with me to Houston whenever I go as well as my iBook. I never could get around that right click, I had to run reports on the database to find information I would have filtered for.

I'll take a stab at what I think Chuck is saying. He thinks only part (and possibly a small part!) of the box set is really worth spending money on. And that part/those parts are available elsewhere outside of the cd set on indivudal cds or an individual cd. And he thinks you should save the big box money to use on a wiser purchase. Hope I did okay. It SEEMS easier than some other translations one can attempt on this board. . .
-
Aric, At the top left of the thread you should see "Options" right below "New Topic." Drop down the menu and select "Standard" from "Display Modes". . . . Problem will be solved.
-
Give us a link of whom you ordered it from. Thanks. I ordered from cduniverse, preordered it literally months ago.
-
Possibly right. . .but for me a trip to Borders means a lot of time spent on the bus, or a lot of dollars spent on cabs. . . making it more expensive one way or another!
-
I have it, I like it. You and I have differing tastes in music. . . I don't want to tell you to get it, I don't want to tell you not to get it. I think since Mosaic will take it back if you don't like it, if you're even just firmly on the fence you could return it if it displeased you. It's not essential unless you really happen to love pianists and piano music. I do. I would venture to say that as much as I love other instruments, the piano is the one I most enjoy; I find it hard to keep my hands off one if I'm around one. I've in fact ordered another copy to give to my father as a gift, he'll really like it.
-
No, I never sleep in late. Haven't since my thirties. Old man syndrome I guess.
-
Doesn't look as if it's going to be cheaper. . . now on cduniverse (easiest to find by searching by title for "Complete on the Corner Sessions").
-
Yes, all of Birth of Soul is in this. There are some of us who are really tempted to answer "all the other material is essential." I'd have a hard time saying . . . "Well, you don't really need. . . "
-
Right. I've never seen that one, but it looks to be wonderful from descriptions.

Unusual Grant Green review on the Blue Note Website
jazzbo replied to Steve Gray's topic in Re-issues
I'm not sure anyone here has the real reason they shut down the BN BB. . .posts of this nature didn't help, but there were other factors too. Monkboughtlunch: great post, thanks. -
That may be the most thorough booklet I have ever seen. And for a single disc! I imagine that if they ever did a box set that the booklet would dwarf the discs by a fair margin. The same can be said for the excellent Uptown release of Alan Eager material.
-
No current marital plans. . . . Heh heh heh that's when it can happen.
-
This is NOT muzak! There's actually both a homogeneity as far as form and structure and a deep variety in this set as far as performance and style. I really haven't given this set the time I should, and I'm going to correct that. Discography attached below. DISCOGRAPHY The 30,000 series are 78 singles. PRODUCER'S NOTE: Initially, the idea of this set was to gather the jazz and jazz-oriented Piano Moods LPs on Columbia. (The Piano Moods series which fall outside the scope of this set are those by Dardanelle, Nat Brandywynne, Joe Reichman, Walter Gross, Cy Walter, Eadie & Rack and Jose Melis.) We expanded the scope slightly to include other piano sessions on Columbia that fell into 10" LP oblivion such as the Tatum concert, the Waller albums by Ralph Sharon and Joe Sullivan and Ahmad Jamal's first recordings: two single sessions for Okeh. Because many of the Piano Moods albums had transitional passages that modulate from the key of the previous tune to the key of the next, we've preserved the original sequence of each 10" album as released. Most of these sessions took place during 1950-51, the period of transition from disc to magnetic tape. As a result, some of these sessions that come from tape (then a new medium for engineers) have more tape hiss than usual. There are also some instances of wow and flutter. In every case, we sought and used the best available master source and restored them as best as possible.

Hopefully you're not proposing to that particular form of high-maintenance babe! I proposed to another type of high-maintenance babe with a very cheap (in the scheme of things) ring. She accepted, because the high-maintenance aspect of her babeness was requiring constant communication and care and attention. I've given that deeply and freely. Seventeen years later she's still wearing that cheap ring. You're going to do fine in whatever you choose. Congratulations.

My copy is still in the mail on its way to me. . . . How can it NOT be good?

Unusual Grant Green review on the Blue Note Website
jazzbo replied to Steve Gray's topic in Re-issues
Of course it's not true that every BN has been out in Japan. And BN US is incorrectly portrayed (nearly all the catalog, not half the catalog, has appeared on cd). But that was good for an "I feel your pain" chuckle! -
I've got great love for that one two! (I've got the same Jazz Tribune edition as well, beautiful two cd set!)
-
This is a great cd! Armstrong compositions. . . you'd hardly recognize them. Very cool.

The Five Albums That Changed the Way You Hear Music
jazzbo replied to md655321's topic in Miscellaneous Music
Hey this looks like fun! After some reflection. . . these: A two LP set of Muddy Waters' early Chess sides. . . can't find a pick or remember the exact title. After a lot of British Blues and pop sides heard over the radio I managed to study these sides and discover raw real music. This opened my ears to a whole world of both meaningful messge music and deep deep groovy shit. Finding this lp in the library and playing it when I had just come back from Africa and was in a weird frame of mind opened up vast new vistas for me, ultimately leading me to Ellington and Parker by opening me up to the world of Miles and fusion. This lp made me suddenly and completely realize that Louis Armstrong was one of the greatest performers of the twentieth century and charmed me into a complete exploration of his work. This lp caused me to seek out the work of Wynton Kelly and Hank Mobley as sidemen and leaders and led me to hundreds of fantastic swinging recordings. -
Yes, US release, very short. . . very sweet. http://www.vervemusicgroup.com/product.asp...t&pid=10981
