  1. Shawn, not sure how much of Chandler, Hammett, James Cain, Horace McCoy, David Goodis or Jim Thompson you may have read, but if there's gaps, fill them.
  2. Underrated record? Maybe. It's been out of print too long! I even like. . . the Boling Big Band version.
  3. Definitely a classic! How High The Moon...baby! Absolutely a stone classic cover and an album for eternity! "Don't Stand a Ghost!"
  4. I don't think it's on cd. I've never heard it. Could be very cool!
  5. Yes. I always keep thinking we'll get a tape at one point leaked out. . . but not yet.
  6. I love the sound if done right. Eddie Harris did it right. Stitt made interesting lines with it. I am very fond of Eddie Harris and his use of the Varitone. Not sure that I encountered any electric trumpet before Miles in my listening. . . .
  7. Jim's pic is of Benny In Moscow. Properties tell me so. I agree, after the forties, worth hearing.
  8. And in my opinion, great as it is, the other sessions are bettet!
  9. You know recent listening to the Berigan and Prima/Manone Mosaics has shown how deep the love for Pops goes in the sound and approach of those cats. Pops was just so important!
  10. At least your in good company. It all probably started with Bix & Tram and has been going on ever since. Can't please everybody. Especially the ignorant, racially-minded "fu@K heads" out there walking the earth. Hell, it even started BEFORE Bix and Tram. . . . It's different here in the South (Texas likes to think it's the West! but it's more South if you ask me) than up in Kevin's neck of the woods. . . . All I can say is though no one has been bold enough to really address those comments to me, and those I hang with are beyond race indeed, but I have overheard this in offices and in clubs. And I've been able to challenge or query it a few times and I think honestly these remarks are not thought through, they're just an automatic response more often than not. . . .Which really isn't too surprising to me, here in the south.
  11. Definitely, the music grew from partyin', the music was serious, as serious as your life partyin' music. . . . Congrats on the show! Must be a lot of fun. I'm a big fan of that early jazz as well. It's uplifting and more and more I need the uplift!
  12. Alright! I'm sure you're going to enjoy it! Nice collection of stuff rarely seen outside that collection and it's a good summertime record!
