I'm pretty new to enjoying Dave Douglas. I like this one a lot, and I really like an earlier very harmelodic string one that I think is called "Convergence" (?). That is exceptional.
I'm going to ease my way into some others.
I pm'd you first, then emailed you, so I probably lost out on the eternal life extra.
Queried about the Clayton and Byas.
I've already got the Dexter. . . it's a good Dexter cd!
I have all the material on the Cohn/Neman/Green so I'll sit tight. The "Jazz Tribune" two cd version of the Newman lps sounds fantastic. . .no need for me to upgrade (this is my favorite of this material).
I preordered Compulsion from cduniverse. It supposedly shipped 3/19. Haven't gotten it. Have received one of the "Keepnews" series cds that was shipped 3/26. Something has gone amiss! I've emailed customer service. . . . The Mary Lou Williams that also supposedly shipped 3/19 is not here.
Well, this is an interesting set. I'm just beginning to get in. . . .
The sound. . . . It's slightly less "brilliant" than I'm used to in Mosaic vintage material. . . but that's not really a complaint.
I have an LRC Classics cd "The Song is You" . . . Stan Getz backed by Stanley Cowell, Miroslav Vitous, and Jack De Johnette.
This is a killer recording.
Are there more out on cd with Getz backed by this rythmn section?
Harold, you're really right I think.
The Jimmy recordings that I reach for are the four volumes on Jazz Oracle that feature recordings of Jimmy and Tommy mostly as sidemen in the early days. Fantastic fun stuff!
