That would have been pretty close to the time he went through electro-shock, wouldn't it? That would explain a lot... Maybe, I don't know the chronology. Okay, did some reading and it looks as if I met him about a decade after the electro shock therapy.

No idea Claude. They don't seem to be midline priced yet. Ah well, Sue would get a good chuckle out of it at least!

I've been toying with the idea of getting an Ashbory bass when I can afford it. . . . Though I'd rather have this (but don't have the building skills or tools!) http://www.liutaiomottola.com/instruments/elastico.htm

Okay, even weirder. . . I got emails for Plays Piano, and Miingus, Mingus, Mingus, Mingus, Mingus as well. And the release dates are in the 1990s. . . . Ah, weirdness from the weird Verve reissue program!
-
I got four copies of one email from Verve today. . . announcing that Charles Mingus' "Black Saint and the Sinner Lady" is being released. Buzz! Well. . .was it out of print lately? Now coming back? Anyone have any knowledge (or clue?) as to this new version? Thanks.

Right, it's one of the better sounding of the Blue Note Mosiacs. (What went wrong with the Lee Morgan?)

Lon, I'm sure about that! But the Berigan box came out at a time when I decided I would not buy the same material twice. I still make exceptions for a dozen favorite giants (you can guess the majority of those) but still abstain for others even when they are as worthy of interest as Berigan. I try to stick to the decision -_- Hey I totally understand! And I have the same aspirations. . .and fall short as well.

My best friend tells me that the JSP rips off the remastering of the Mosaic, leaving off the alternates and two sessions (I loaned him my Mosaic for comparison). Shame. Jack, yes, those Berigan band sides and his sideman work not in the Mosaic are great. I have the Berigan band and the Dorsey band material on the excellent series of Bluebird lps transferred to cdr which sound great, and there are some excellent solos from Bunny in there. Guy, I have most of the material in the Mosaic outside the Mosiac. . . but man it sounds better in the Mosiac, and the booklet is great. I've been thrilled with every single prebop release Mosaic has come out with: keep 'em coming Scott!

I agree about Point of Departure RVG; I don't like that session and never listen to it. I hear the other RVG differently than you do though; I've adjusted my system so that most RVGs sound wonderful (and many ohter cds). . .though McMaster cds still aren't ones I can ease into listening, I"m getting there. I notice that we always differ on opinion on RVGs, which makes me scratch my head a bit, but makes me really appreciate my very flexible system. (No tone controls, but I can tailor the sound with vacuum tube choices and by adjusting the output of the ribbon tweeters on my "Radial" speakers). Anyway Al: knowing your tastes as I think I do, I don't think you'll mind the sound on the separate cds.

I really like the RVGs and consider them an upgrade to the box set. . . The McMastered Conns sound okay but have that wide open thinness to the sound with a brittleness that I dislike from McMaster efforts.

Many many more happy ones!

Hmmm.. . not sure I recommend that. . .it's . . .costly

There is a link for suggestions on the Mosaic website. http://www.mosaicrecords.com/feedback.asp I think it's been there since the launch of the site.

I created a wish list. It was fun. It will make it easier to order. I can save about six seconds per set.

What's your desktop background/wallpaper?

Damn that Sadi is probably great. I have a recent picture of my wife, with a light crop of newly grown head hair, standing in our backyard (which she loves, in front of the pecan tree the woodpickers have a nest in). -

I like quite a bit of their work. A band I was in actually did one of the songs, "Kingdom of Heaven." I met Rocky at a party in our house probably 20 years ago now. He lived in the neighborhood then. Umm. . . spacey dude. . . did not impress me in person.

That is good news! I like those sessions.

Yes, there's an Atlantic Stitt in the same manner.

Well, I have the Cox and the Turrentine (issued part) on vinyl and I LIKE them. Music that I enjoy hearing; I've got these cds (and the Hill, I have the Mosaic but have bought all the separate releases too, wish this was an RVG instead, but oh well) on the way to me via cduniverse.

This is pretty good.

Paris Hilton Goin' To The Big House
jazzbo replied to Soulstation1's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Advanced AP Paris Hilton released from LA jail By ROBERT JABLON, Associated Press Writer 16 minutes ago LOS ANGELES - Paris Hilton was released from a Los Angeles County jail early Thursday because of an unspecified medical problem and will fulfill the reminder of her sentence in home confinement, a sheriff's spokesman said. ADVERTISEMENT The 26-year-old hotel heiress was sent home shortly after 2 a.m. fitted with an electronic monitoring bracelet. She had spent five days at the Century Regional Detention Facility in suburban Los Angeles for violating probation in an alcohol-related reckless driving case. "I can't specifically talk about the medical situation other than to say that, yes, it played a part in this," said sheriff's spokesman Steve Whitmore. Hilton had been sentenced to 45 days behind bars, but had been expected to serve 23 days because of state rules allowing shorter sentences for good behavior. Whitmore said that under the new agreement, Hilton would be confined to her home for 40 days. "Because she has agreed to this through her attorney, her sentence is now back up to the 45 days. She has served already five days so that's 40 days," he explained. Hilton checked into the Century Regional Detention Facility just after 11:30 p.m. Sunday. She had surrendered to authorities with little fanfare after a surprise appearance at the MTV Movie Awards, where she worked the red carpet in a strapless designer gown. "I am trying to be strong right now," she told reporters at the time. "I'm ready to face my sentence. Even though this is a really hard time, I have my family, my friends and my fans to support me, and that's really helpful." Hilton was housed in the "special needs" unit of the 13-year-old jail, separate from most of its 2,200 inmates. The unit contains 12 two-person cells reserved for police officers, public officials, celebrities and other high-profile inmates. She didn't have a cellmate. After she checked in Sunday, Whitmore said Hilton's demeanor was helpful. "She was focused; she was cooperative," he said. Hilton's lawyer, Richard A. Hutton, said Monday after his client's first night in jail that she was doing well under the circumstances. "She's using this time to reflect on her life, to see what she can do to make the world better and hopefully, in my opinion, to change the attitudes that exist about her among many people," Hutton said after visiting Hilton. The 13-year-old jail, a two-story concrete building next to train tracks and beneath a bustling freeway, has been an all-female facility since March 2006. It's located in an industrial area about 12 miles southeast of downtown Los Angeles. When she was sentenced May 4, Superior Court Judge Michael T. Sauer ruled that she would not be allowed any work release, furloughs or use of an alternative jail or electronic monitoring in lieu of jail. Officers arrested Hilton in Hollywood on Sept. 7. In January, she pleaded no contest to the reckless-driving charge and was sentenced to 36 months' probation, alcohol education and $1,500 in fines. She was pulled over by California Highway Patrol on Jan. 15. Officers informed Hilton she was driving on a suspended license and she signed a document acknowledging she was not to drive. She then was pulled over by sheriff's deputies on Feb. 27, at which time she was charged with violating probation. from yahoo news
