I'm not trying to start an argument here or anything but does it actually say there is "new" re-mastering on these sets??? Mark Wilder interview on the new mastering of the Kind of Blue Legacy Edition 2CD-set. I've read in an article that he had also newly remastered the 'Round About Midnight and Sketches of Spain Legacy Edition 2CD-sets, but I can't find it right now. Anyway, Phil Schaap's name is not mentioned in the mastering credits of the Sketches of Spain Legacy Edition 2CD-set, while it does appear among the mastering credits of the Miles Davis / Gil Evans boxed set. Mark Wilder, Maria Triana and Woody Pornpakoski (and in a few cases Seth Foster) remastered almost the entire Miles Davis catalogue between 2001 and 2006, and those remasters were used for the now OOP 2006 Japanese mini-LP reissues in the SICP 12XX series and also for the 2007 Japanese hybrid SACD reissues and the later Japanese blu-spec versions. This was confirmed to me by CD Japan some time ago. The mastering credits can be found on the CD inserts and the dates on the obi strips. You don't have to take my word for it, of course P.S. Forgot to add that Charles Mingus' Mingus Ah Um Legacy Edition 2CD-set was also newly mixed and mastered. According to the booklet Mark Wilder did the mixing from the original three-track tapes on an original Presto tube tape recorder. Thanks for that, but on the late 90's versions (1998) of the Mingus material it says "Digitally remixed and remastered from the original 3-track tapes using an original Presto Tape Tube Recorder by Mark Wilder and Rob Schwarz at Sony Music Studios, NY", so I think I'm going to go with CJ Shearn here, that the mixes on these fancy new Legacy editions are the same as the late 90's versions. I just can't see a record company spending the money to re-re-master stuff these days. Just my opinion though.

Whoa great second half in the Panathinaikos vs Atletico Madrid game, I was just thinking I wouldn't pay 50 million for Aguero when he went and scored that goal, amazing. Also Liverpool winning 4 - 0 and United losing to Burnley, what a night. God I love football. -
Sale over...cheers & thanks.

I think it's actually Panathinaikos vs Atletico Madrid, which is good because Greek crowds are usually nuts, I'm gonna watch it just because it's on and I want to have a look at Sergio Aguero and see if he's all that, as they say. Even though I should try and watch Liverpool – Stoke City somewhere, I'm still pissed off at Sunday's performance and I fear Stoke will just defend and make it difficult and worse still get a winning goal in the 89 minute or something. God I hate football. :tophat: -

You might not be so thankful after you watch it, it wasn't all that great, Arsenal definitely deserved to win but the 2 goals were very, very lucky. -

Yea, you didn't really miss much from the Tottenham-Liverpool game. However Celtic v Arsenal tonight should be well worth watching. -

Not as disappointed as I was with Liverpool's defeat to Spurs, they just never got going and looked a bit disjointed, other than the Arsenal win, which in fairness was helped by Everton being completely shit, it was a bit of a damp squib of a first weekend of the season. Hope it gets better. :( -

The Mosaic trade thread
Cliff Englewood replied to Dave James's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
This one's still available for trade. PM on the way. Sorry Cliff, I just worked out a trade for this box literally within the past couple of days. Forgot to post on this thread that it was no longer available, apologies. No probs, thanks anyway. -
Yes, Zoot is worse than Chet. And as I mentioned in another thread, I think Chet is a better singer than Kenny Dorham too. But I'm thinking of the younger Chet; I haven't heard enough of how he sounded in later years. I actually don't mind either Chet's or Zoot's vocal efforts, I just take it for what it is, not their main gig and just probably enjoying themselves. This is pretty good, don't know if it's been posted before; Chet Baker Live (Belgium 1964) : Time After Time

I didn't know they required paypal, thanks for the tip. Now someone needs to explain to me why someone paid slightly more for a used edition of The Complete H.R.S. Sessions, $100, when they could have gotten a new one from Mosaic for $96??? The Complete H.R.S. Sessions Mosaic MD6-187 Is that set back-ordered, maybe? Nope, it's not on backorder, tranemonk recently ordered it and they had it in stock.

Yes Quincy, as I have learned that you're a fan of the early style of jazz from the H.R.S. thread, it would be well worth your while, here is a brief rundown of what's on it from AMG; "Two virtuoso guitarists are featured alone, together and with a small cast of supporting players on the 1998 BGO double-album reissue compilation Blue Guitars, Vols. 1 & 2. Philadelphia native Salvatore Massara, known professionally as Eddie Lang (1902-1933) and New Orleans' own Alonzo Johnson, who worked under the name Lonnie Johnson (1899-1970) both played blues and jazz guitar about as naturally as most people manage to breathe. On approximately ten of the classic recordings assembled here, Lang masqueraded as "Blind Willie Dunn" in order to conceal the fact that theirs was a racially mingled act at a time when the recording industry was still segregated. Traversing the weave of examples from both men's careers, one is struck by the refreshing diversity of moods and textures. In addition to the Italian-American Massaro/Lang's rendition of Sergei Rachmaninoff's "Prelude in C Sharp Minor," there are piano accompaniments by Arthur Schutt, Frank Signorelli, and Rube Bloom, as well as interactions with the Louis Armstrong band and a couple of friendly run-ins with homicidal blues growler Texas Alexander." It also has the session with the fantastically named Gin Bottle Four, which also included pianist J.C. Johnson and King Oliver.

There's no Venuti on the Blue Guitars set if that helps.

I can heartily recommend this one, it's well worth seeking out, two discs worth of fantastic music, excellent sound quality. 'Nuff said. Amazon link with sound samples.

Even if times are hard that's very bad, if they don't have it and don't know when they're going to get it, they shouldn't have charged you.
