  1. Yes I have that one, it's been out for quite a while now, there are a couple of reviews on Amazon, one of which explains that the tracks are probably not from the Cotton Club at all, it's just a guess, I think the liners say somthing like that also, but I haven't read them in a while. Durium posted and blogged about it a while back as well, here.
  2. So "good" you posted it twice, I can only presume you were drunk.

These look really nice, and would (will) suit me fine. Thanks for bringing them up. Hi Paps, Shortly after this post a year ago, I found a Japanese King pressing of both the trio and quintet together on 1 LP. It sounds amazing. I'd stopped looking for the Riker's album, and I haven't been buying in a while, but I'll seek that one out again. -Jay I have the Riker's Island album on cd and although I haven't listened to it in a long time, I don't remember it being all that great, IMHO. It seemed a bit too sloppy or something, maybe it's time to refresh the ole memory. one thing one might find a bit annoying is that the size of the bands are varied from tune to tune; two different singers on one song each (earl coleman is fine but a bit special, the other guy i could never listen to for the whole tune), trio, quartet, sextet... i really like the compositions, also something about the trumpeter and the alto player, they seemed a bit like strangers, somewhat restricted, don't know, but in a good way... and philly joe jones, hope and john gilmore a great, too Yes I was listening to it again last night and my opinion hasn't changed, there are few nice bits and pieces but over all it doesn't really hold one's attention.
  5. Sent you a PM with a question on the Prophetic Herbie Nichols Vol 1 and 2, cheers.

  7. A classic "game of two halves" really, once Brazil got one back so early in the second half the US just seemed to implode, no belief. However they did do very well and if they can keep that group together for the WC, they will cause a few more shocks. Well done Brazil though.

Ha ha. Here's what I don't get. These so-called Andorran labels (and indeed others) issue material which is still in European copyright owned among others by EMI, Sony/BMG, Warner and Universal. This material is distributed throughout Europe and sold by respectable retailers. I'm not talking here about material out of European copyright, or about bootlegs or anything else. Is it really the case that these large companies can take no actions to defend their own copyrights? Can Universal do nothing about Lonehill's Illinois Jacquet and Johnny Hodges issues? Were Warner unable to act against Gambit's Paul Desmond issue? Do Sony/BMG have nothing to say about Lonehill's J.J. Johnson? Do none of these companies at least feel inclined to drop a line to amazon to ask them to quit stocking them? The boots and out-of-copyright issues are an unrelated matter. Here the question is in-copyright material where the owner is a large company which appears otherwise able to police its rights. The usual bluster aside, does anyone have any facts on this? guess these firms are simply lacking the knowledge to find out whether it's their material or not I don't think they are lacking the knowledge, I think they don't really give a shit and if they actually did go after them, the time and money it would take wouldn't justify the end result. I know what David is saying though, there is more chance of finding the grey and black market stuff over here than there is the legitmate releases.
  9. 'Pushin' Too Hard' and 'Can't Seem to Make You Mine' are so good, they are highlights from the "Nuggets" box set. Anyone who came up with these two bad boys has got to be cool.
  10. I don't suppose anyone out there is tired of/bored with their "The Complete Capitol & Atlantic Recordings of Jimmy Giuffre"??? If so I have a "The Complete Argo/Mercury Jazztet Sessions of Art Farmer/Benny Golson" that I would be willing to trade. A complete long shot I know but....
  11. Agreed, I just wish we hadn't made so many careless passes and allowed Spain to relentlessly attack us. When our young forwards (Altidore and Davies) weren't needlessly giving the ball away, our midfielders (especially Bradley and Clark) were putting two or three times the necessary weight on their through balls. I'm sure everyone on the squad was in a festive mood after that match, but if I were one of our defenders, I would have had a hard time resisting the urge to strangle somebody. Brazil certainly looked beatable yesterday vs S.A. Somehow I doubt they're going to look that way on Sunday. Anyway, I just hope the U.S. does better when it comes to possessing the ball, and that they continue to at least create some good chances from the run of play. That's a good point and the thing to remember about playing a team like Spain, or indeed just playing Spain, as there are very few teams like them in the world at the moment, is that you are not going to have the ball very much anyway, no matter how good or bad you are in possesion, they are always going to have the ball more than you because everyone in that team is so skillful and so comfortable on the ball they rarely give it away. I have always liked Clint Dempsey, I see a good bit of him as he plays for Fulham, not a star man by any means but very honest and a real team player, never gives up either. I haven't watched Brazil at all but it should be a good final, nothing to lose for the US anyway.
  12. Sent you a PM... cheers.
  13. I like his GOD look.
  14. I have 'Time Fades Away' on that old black plastic stuff, what do you call it??????? Anyway it's good, but not really deserving of it's reputation as a lost masterpiece, but it goes very well with "On The Beach" and "Tonight's The Night", the later is still my favorite Neil.
  15. Yes, "New York Calling" is worth checking out if you see it cheap, although I seem to remember that McLean pretty much takes a back seat on it, lets the young 'uns, including Rene, take the lead.
  16. Well done to the USA, they just wanted it more than Spain last night, really excellent performance and a great work rate from the whole team.
  17. I probably would have been more interested in this when I first heard about it, what 10, 15 years ago. I've read a few reviews and they were very much pro but looking at the track listing I don't know. If you're a major Neil fan you'll get this but if you're a major Neil fan you'll probably have or at least heard most of it anyway. I'll pass.
  18. Marcoliv trying to reply to your PM but the Board seems to be running a bit whacko at the moment so I will try again later, cheers.
  19. Yes, I would. I'll send you a PM if no one else has done so already.
  20. Jonathan, that is one of the best descriptions of Marsh's music I have ever read, talk about hitting the nail on the head!!! I have to admit I would still be slightly pessimistic about something like this coming out, not due to lack of quality or lack of effort, but purely down to economics and such in these horrible times, but I would love to be proved wrong. :D Good luck and please post any updates.
  21. I didn't watch the South Africa v Iraq because I knew it would be pants but the New Zealand v Spain game was kinda entertaining, the Torres hatrick in 11 minutes was pretty good, but you couldn't really expect much more from NZ.
  22. Ike on the acoustic guitar, Je Ne Sais Pas Pourquoi Ike, Je Ne Sais Pas Pourquoi.
  23. PM on the way for the following; Zoot Sims - On The Corner MINT $5 James Clay - a double dose of soul -MINT $5 The Teddy Edwards Sextet It's All Right (sealed) $7
