  1. Bump for price reductions and one addition. Cheers.
  2. Then you suppose wrong, it's more the sound of a man bored with "House" music, (Acid House, Deep House, whatever the fuck they're calling it now House)... like 10 years ago, when it was still kinda cool.
  3. If this one is still available, I'll take it; Marsh ,Warne – A Ballad Album (Criss Cross) Lou Levy $10
  4. That's amazing, I had no idea you could do something like that. The second clip is the more obvious one, where he's going up the hill, there is no way you can accelerate that much going up a hill while sitting down. Still I kinda want a bike like that, it would be fun to fuck with motorists heads as you keep up with them.
  5. I don't think you're a million miles away with your Mick solo album reference, there was a documentary shown on BBC2 on Saturday night, I think it's the one that comes with the "Super Deluxe Edition" of "Exile", called "Stones in Exile", it wasn't really very good, but I got the impression that with the whole project it was either Mick's way or the highway, y'know he doesn't really like the album anyway and I think this was his way of making it more to his likeing. "Exile On Main St. Blues" was played over the end credits. I don't know why they didn't put that great acoustic version of "All Down The Line" on as one of the extras, or even the imfamous "Cocksucker Blues" itself, would have been kinda cool, "Follow The River" is fucking shite though. BTW, the '94 re-master of "Sticky Fingers" is also well worth getting, it blew me away when I first heard it, more so than the '94 "Exile".
  6. That sounds like a messy divorce. BTW, here are a few more Mingus '64 related threads; Charles Mingus Sextet, Live at Cornell U 1964. Charles Mingus Liege April 1964. Charles Mingus, Town Hall Concert.
  7. Thanks Ed, nice overview of the various boots. I caved in and bought the Bremen release that I listed above and I would say it's well worth getting, the sound quality isn't amazing but, as they mention themselves in the fairly brief notes, you can hear every instrument throughout, there a few pops here and there but nothing major. I'm starting to get obsessive about this group/tour. After searching through my cds I found that I already have the Salle Wagram concert in 2 volumes; this one here; and the Volume 2 which is from Charly and looks a bit like this; I also completely forgot I have this incomplete version of the Stuttgart show; the sound quality is just so so. I also went back and listened to the Volume 2 Enja on CD and the sound is very good, better than I remembered, something very funny happens during Byard's solo on "So Long Eric", the crowd and Mingus are laughing but the solo kicks ass. I'm going to have to get Volume 1 now.
  8. I am having enormous difficulty believing anyone spent over 2 grand on that album, it's a good date for sure but it's not that good. I don't see how anyone with a brain could blow that much on one record, unless maybe they don't know about cds and that they have been produced all over the world for some time now.
  9. Some of the reviews on Amazon are, as usual, quite funny/interesting, somebody calling himself "RoboGoon, Mastering Guy" has even made a helpful graph.
  10. That's an excellent explanation of how this new version sounds, thanks for posting it so us normals don't have to go th the Hoffman Board. It can also be summed up this way, the new version just sounds wrong. :w
  11. Thanks for explaining that, I too have the cd "Mingus in Europe" and always wondered why it wasn't called Volume 2, it has this cover right?
  12. What can you tell me about the sound quality??? Eh, that's what I was asking, I presume these have been out in some way, shape or form before so I was wondering are they worth investigating. I have a good bit of stuff from this tour but don't really want to spend $20 a pop if the sound shit, which in fairness, there is a very good chance of. The Salle Wagram one also has the Chico Hamilton Quintet with Dolphy at Newport in 1958, so I might just give it a miss.
  13. Thanks for that, glad you and your Mosaic were finally introduced. BTW, that's a hell of a lot of travelling you do.
  14. There seems to be a few new bootlegs from the '64 tour released over this side of the pond; Complete Live in Amsterdam. Salle Wagram Concert Complete Edition. Complete Bremen Concert. I'm intrigued by the Bremen one as it has Coles on it, anybody know about the sound quality of these various dates, even from other previous bootleg releases?
  15. You have way too much time on your hands, seriously.
  16. Wow, I didn't know they got Mick Taylor back in again as well.
  17. An alternate solution (at least for U.S. board members, sorry Cliff) would be to keep the Virgin, and then purchase the additional tracks separately on the standalone disc at Target. Yes, that would be a good solution as the booklet is nothing to write home about either.
  18. NO HE DOESN'T... But anyway, up, as I would love to know the original recording order of the album myself???
  19. Has anybody ever actually thought a pop-up ad was selling something legit? :w I mean come on. FFS.
  20. I bought the "Deluxe" version with the bonus cuts, it also come with a booklet that has some decent photos from the recording sessions in France, no text to speak of. I didn't really like the sound of the new version, the vocals have definitely been pushed forward in the mix, as colinmce mentions above the earlier, (from the mid 90's, I think) Virgin mastering is much better, although I haven't a/b'd the 2 versions extensively, that's for other people on this board to do. :g As for the bonus tracks, well since I heard this was going to be released I was pretty excited about them, however I didn't read all that much of the pre release hype, but I did see something where Keith said they had added bits of guitar to some of them. :rfr When you actually hear them though it's obvious that the vocals on most of them have been added on/overdubbed as well and they are a bit weird. Not so much sounding like someone doing an immpression of Mick Jagger, but it's more like Mick Jagger doing an impression of Mick Jagger, trying to sound like he did 30 years ago. The songs themselves are decent enough but you wouldn't trade anything on the original album for any of them, at least I wouldn't. All in all if you have the Virgin re-master stick with it, you're not missing all that much and that's coming from someone who absolutely adores Exile. Now, as for the 2 disc re-issue of "Raw Power", that is totally worth getting, it's the way you remember it, ragged but righteous.
  21. Package arrived this morning, thanks again. :tup
  22. I had a similar reaction, but then "Background Music" is such a great tune. You need to get this, if you don't have it already that is;
  23. Thanks for posting this Lazaro, very nice.
