  1. They're probably just in the long process of closing up shop in an orderly manner. I'm surprised they still own the Fairfield Avenue building.
  2. 75 Yellowbird titles - Bill Frisell, Marc Ribot, Myra Melford, David Murray, Billy Hart, Sunny Murray, Dave Liebman...
  3. 22 Sam Rivers albums on Rivbea Music.
  4. Very sad. A great man for the music. RIP. And sorry for your loss, Chuck. I know you worked with him for awhile, and put out some great projects including the Mingus.
  5. Evette Dorham Monk visited my childhood home often to see my dad Kenny Dorham. I remember him well. Ruby My Dear (my mom is also Ruby), and Round Midnight. William Ridley Kool Jabbar !!! my uncle Larry was his bassist
  6. I just bought this one: Samsung LS24F350FHNXZA SF350 23.5" Screen LED-Lit Monitor for $130.
  7. 358 Criss Cross titles. And another 24 here.
  8. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar posted this photo on his Facebook page with the caption: "This photo of Thelonious Monk and me was taken March of 1966, I was 18. It was shot by the baroness Nica de Koenswater in the kitchen of the Village Vanguard which served as the green room for the musicians. My favorite song by Monk is "Evidence", what's yours? #FBF #TheloniousMonk #Jazz"

    Nina Simone

Which live album? There were several:
  10. Yeah, I loved it too. Sonny comes across as a very nice, natural man, with good friends and a long memory.
  11. Their 1000 series were their own originals (but maybe the artists owned the masters). Their 2000 series was, I think, Enja. Their 3000 series was Steeplechase. Their 6000 series was East Wind. This produced some weird situations where an artist on their label might have different titles in different series. They had a sister label, Classic Jazz, that released a lot of Black & Blue titles. It's interesting to see the titles they're still offering. The older recordings (Clifford Brown and such) are Vogue/Jazz In Paris recordings. Some are Herb Abramson (?) titles, like the Elmo Hope. Oh, one more they're not offering, but I'd like to see, is the Pony Poindexter. Prior discussion on Inner City: http://www.organissimo.org/forum/index.php?/topic/31336-inner-city-label/
  12. No doubt. Two I don't see are Jeff Lorber (perhaps their biggest selling album) and Sun Ra Live at Montreux.
  13. There are some interesting things on that label. I have the Abbey Lincoln (with Archie Shepp), and am very curious about the Tommy Flanagan, Tal Farlow, Ted Curson, Lew Tabackin, Al Haig, and Roland Hanna, to name a few.
  14. 112 Progressive titles. 135 Inner City titles. 14 Groovin' High titles. 38 Candid titles.
  15. 179 MusicMasters titles. 51 Mainstream titles. 75 LRC/Groove Merchant titles. 121 Universe (Vanguard) titles. 298 Venus titles.

  18. The Gerry Mulligan and Art Pepper sets are my favorites. I also love the Dizzy Reece, Carmell Jones, Big John Patton, Bobby Hutcherson and Dexter Gordon.
  19. After Koln, this is still my favorite Jarrett - there's a nice mix of moods, and the two long pieces are outstanding: If you like Nude Ants, Sleeper is also excellent - in the same vein, recorded a month earlier:
  20. Also, now that he has some extra time, I'd like him to become a board member here. I'd love to read his posts on threads like "So, What Are You Listening To NOW?", "Which Jazz box set are you grooving to right now?", "Which Mosaic Are You Enjoying Right Now?", "Sets you wish Mosaic would do", "Best track you heard all week", "Songs You don't want requested", "Duke Ellington - Post 1960 Recordings", and, of course, his thoughts on the latest Blindfold Test!
  21. I can't think of any others.
  22. I've just started to dig into this box set, and have a question regarding Cecil Payne - Zodiac. The timings of two of the tracks in the box are shorter than the timings given on the original LP. Were the LP timings incorrectly listed, or were these tracks somehow shortened in the box? 1) Martin Luther King, Jr./I Know Love: LP 9:04 (combined), Mosaic 7:01 2) Follow Me: LP 9:16, Mosaic 7:08.
  23. Brands and brand names have a value (generally captured under "intangible assets" on the balance sheet). It can be sold for real money, should a buyer have an interest.
  24. According to this source, it's Red Callender: https://books.google.com/books?id=U7I3DwAAQBAJ&pg=PA93&lpg=PA93&dq=gerald+wilson+dissonance+in+blues&source=bl&ots=_KVc3T-1sL&sig=wXyHcpXPhG6CUpYBawRRLYPzd1c&hl=en&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwia3vfs3a3ZAhVJbK0KHd5-Bok4HhDoAQguMAI#v=onepage&q=gerald wilson dissonance in blues&f=false And here's a photo of the label of the 78:
