  1. The Gerry Mulligan and Art Pepper sets are my favorites. I also love the Dizzy Reece, Carmell Jones, Big John Patton, Bobby Hutcherson and Dexter Gordon.
  2. After Koln, this is still my favorite Jarrett - there's a nice mix of moods, and the two long pieces are outstanding: If you like Nude Ants, Sleeper is also excellent - in the same vein, recorded a month earlier:
  3. Also, now that he has some extra time, I'd like him to become a board member here. I'd love to read his posts on threads like "So, What Are You Listening To NOW?", "Which Jazz box set are you grooving to right now?", "Which Mosaic Are You Enjoying Right Now?", "Sets you wish Mosaic would do", "Best track you heard all week", "Songs You don't want requested", "Duke Ellington - Post 1960 Recordings", and, of course, his thoughts on the latest Blindfold Test!
  4. I can't think of any others.
  5. I've just started to dig into this box set, and have a question regarding Cecil Payne - Zodiac. The timings of two of the tracks in the box are shorter than the timings given on the original LP. Were the LP timings incorrectly listed, or were these tracks somehow shortened in the box? 1) Martin Luther King, Jr./I Know Love: LP 9:04 (combined), Mosaic 7:01 2) Follow Me: LP 9:16, Mosaic 7:08.
  6. Brands and brand names have a value (generally captured under "intangible assets" on the balance sheet). It can be sold for real money, should a buyer have an interest.
  7. According to this source, it's Red Callender: https://books.google.com/books?id=U7I3DwAAQBAJ&pg=PA93&lpg=PA93&dq=gerald+wilson+dissonance+in+blues&source=bl&ots=_KVc3T-1sL&sig=wXyHcpXPhG6CUpYBawRRLYPzd1c&hl=en&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwia3vfs3a3ZAhVJbK0KHd5-Bok4HhDoAQguMAI#v=onepage&q=gerald wilson dissonance in blues&f=false And here's a photo of the label of the 78:
  8. And how about the amazing Martin Taylor? And he DOES remember Charlie Parker: Another good'un:
  9. They also have 190 Storyville titles, and 104 from an interesting label Cellar Live.
  10. Lou Mecca.
  11. George Wallington. The 3 sessions on "Best of the West" (not sure who the leaders were).
  12. Tal Farlow. Sal Salvador. Urbie Green.
  13. Another one on Craft:
  14. Interesting that this is being released on "Craft Recordings." That's also the label listed on the recent download-only "Art Pepper - The Complete Maiden Voyage Concerts." I guess Craft is a new imprint for Concord-related releases.

    Mundell Lowe RIP

He's great on this album (great album too!):

    Gary Burton

Listening now to Live In Tokyo for the first time. Wonderful, wonderful stuff. June 1971...this has the sophistication and detail of his ECM recordings with the fire of his Atlantic days. Great band: Sam Brown, guitar, Tony Levin, bass, Bill Goodwin, drums. If you love Burton, you have to have it. Great sound, too.
  17. RIP.
  18. Did this happen?
  19. RIP. I enjoyed her contribution to the "Benny Carter Songbook."
  20. Anyone heard of this? Robert Christgau likes it: https://noisey.vice.com/en_us/article/437gjg/robert-christgau-on-a-brilliant-beefheart-trip-and-some-early-stones-standouts
  21. Thanks for prompting me to revisit the ArtistShare site. Last I looked, they were offering only a "deluxe" version for $75 (probably including the downloads you mention). That's why I posted the jazzmessengers link. Now I see that ArtistShare is offering a "standard" version for $34.95: https://www.artistshare.com/v4/Projects/OfferDetails/7/431/2562/1/6
  22. If you love the Jim Hall, know that there are 3 more discs available from the same sessions: https://www.jazzmessengers.com/en/74301/jim-hall/live-vol-2-4-3-cd-dvd
  23. OK, but the album could've also been called "I Remember Frank Sinatra" (well, Sinatra was still alive in 1979, but you get the idea). Mind you, I also think it's weird that the "Rollins Plays For Bird" medley only has one Parker composition. I'm not casting aspersions on the musical value of either album.
  24. Yup, that works too.
