  1. And how about the amazing Martin Taylor? And he DOES remember Charlie Parker: Another good'un:
  2. They also have 190 Storyville titles, and 104 from an interesting label Cellar Live.
  3. Lou Mecca.
  4. George Wallington. The 3 sessions on "Best of the West" (not sure who the leaders were).
  5. Tal Farlow. Sal Salvador. Urbie Green.
  6. Another one on Craft:
  7. Interesting that this is being released on "Craft Recordings." That's also the label listed on the recent download-only "Art Pepper - The Complete Maiden Voyage Concerts." I guess Craft is a new imprint for Concord-related releases.

    Mundell Lowe RIP

He's great on this album (great album too!):

    Gary Burton

Listening now to Live In Tokyo for the first time. Wonderful, wonderful stuff. June 1971...this has the sophistication and detail of his ECM recordings with the fire of his Atlantic days. Great band: Sam Brown, guitar, Tony Levin, bass, Bill Goodwin, drums. If you love Burton, you have to have it. Great sound, too.
  10. RIP.
  11. Did this happen?
  12. RIP. I enjoyed her contribution to the "Benny Carter Songbook."
  13. Anyone heard of this? Robert Christgau likes it: https://noisey.vice.com/en_us/article/437gjg/robert-christgau-on-a-brilliant-beefheart-trip-and-some-early-stones-standouts
  14. Thanks for prompting me to revisit the ArtistShare site. Last I looked, they were offering only a "deluxe" version for $75 (probably including the downloads you mention). That's why I posted the jazzmessengers link. Now I see that ArtistShare is offering a "standard" version for $34.95: https://www.artistshare.com/v4/Projects/OfferDetails/7/431/2562/1/6
  15. If you love the Jim Hall, know that there are 3 more discs available from the same sessions: https://www.jazzmessengers.com/en/74301/jim-hall/live-vol-2-4-3-cd-dvd
  16. OK, but the album could've also been called "I Remember Frank Sinatra" (well, Sinatra was still alive in 1979, but you get the idea). Mind you, I also think it's weird that the "Rollins Plays For Bird" medley only has one Parker composition. I'm not casting aspersions on the musical value of either album.
  17. Yup, that works too.
  18. Or "I really like Charlie Parker but Norman Granz made me play these tunes instead."
  19. So the dam has broken, eh? I really like this one; has a lot more energy than his Virtuoso releases, which can sound sleepy: Not sure it's ever been released on CD. I never understood how an album titled "I Remember Charlie Parker" doesn't contain a single tune Bird wrote.

Great book in that set. Garth Hudson's a genius.

Because it's fun? Because they have limited financial resources to design something new, and this is a design they already own?
  22. I actually didn’t much like Burrell’s Tenderly. He sounded rusty.

“Stateside” seems to be Warner’s “label” for the jazz titles (Roulette, etc.) they acquired from Universal when Uni was forced to divest them when they acquired EMI. The 10” reissue of Lee Morgan - The Roulette Sides was on “Stateside.” It’s a legit reissue. As for the Bethlehem, Dusty Groove’s description explains it all for you.
  24. Thanks for all you do, Jim. I’m looking forward to the upgrade. Maybe it will allow me to give a “thumbs up”!
  25. They also have 6 India Navigation titles, 379 Intakt titles, and 114 hat ART titles. And 218 hatOLOGY titles.
