  1. The format of this interesting project is as ridiculous as the Miles@Montreux set. I would buy 2 or 3 of the concerts if they were available seperately, but 17CDs - no way. Miles Davis - Complete Montreux (20CD box) - Does it sell?
  2. Can you throw a virtual stone into the "Breaking point" cover?
  3. Awesome, couw, these look fantastic. The Dexter is hilarious This is what Reid Miles would have done if Photoshop had existed back then.
  4. I managed to sync Miles Davis' Quiet nights to an episode of the Golden Girls
  5. Who is this "Tery Clark" who "inspired audiences around the world"? Can you get sleep with a Cecil Taylor watch next to you on the night table?
  6. Wow, I didn't know Helen Merrill was still active. I never liked her voice on her late 80's early 90's albums, it just made me want to return to those divine sounds from the 50's ("Born to be blue with Clifford Brown).
  7. Yeah, but that outer box is worth $20 at least What do you think the slipcases from the first RVGs will be worth in ten years?
  8. On Selflessness: The two tracks on Side A are from the Newport Festival 1963, and have been reissued on the Newport '63 CD. The title track has been reissued on the Major works 2CD set
  9. - Selflessness Side A: My favourite things; I want to talk about you Side B: Selflessness - Feelin' Good (The Mastery Of John Coltrane Vol.1) Side A: Feelin' Good; My Favourite Things Side B: Living Space; Untitled 90 320 Side C: Untitled 90 314; Dusk-Dawn Side D: Nature Boy; Joy - To the Beat of a Different Drummer (The Mastery Of John Coltrane Vol.2) Side A: Impressions; I want to talk about you Side B: My Favourite Things; After The Rain Side C: Dear Old Stockholm; After The Crescent Side D: One Up, One Down; Dear Lord - Jupiter Variation (The Mastery Of John Coltrane Vol.3) Side A: Number one; Peace On Earth Side B: Jupiter; Leo - Trane's Modes (The Mastery Of John Coltrane Vol.4) Side A: Impressions (Take one); Miles' Modes Side B: Chasin' another Trane; Greensleeves (take two) Side C: Impressions (Take Two); Naima Side D: Africa (First version); The Damned Don't Cry (taken from a german book on Coltrane) All these albums are compiled from different sessions, so the original order doesn't necessarily make much sense.
  10. Many thanks and merci beaucoup to all of you My birthday tends to get forgotten in real life because it is on All Saints Day. But thanks to the great features of this board software I got more best wishes than usually. I noticed I was approaching 35 years when my bank informed me I was losing the last of my youth benefits (1% higher interest rate on my savings ). That make you feel really old So thanks again, and now I need to get rid of that Halloween user pic ...
  11. I haven't seen the original movie, so I can't say which one is better. There are sceptics who say the new version stinks, and some fans who were mislead by the "original concert" sticker on the DVD, thinking the disc contained both versions. But the original movie is only available on VHS. There are a few goofy picture effects in the director´s cut, which look dated but surprisingly have been added or created for the new version. All in all, without knowing the original movie I enjoyed the DVD alot, especially the music scenes (of course) but also the studio footage which documents the Dark Side of The Moon recording (a complete DVD documentary with more of that has been released recently). Having the music scenes again seperately on the disc is a bonus, because this will certainly be played more often than the movie. The picture quality is very good (I have the PAL version) and the sound is ok (not nearly as good as the studio recordings).
  12. No, the original movie is NOT included. The DVD contains the new version of the movie ("director's cut") and the "original concert", which are only the music scenes in the Pompeij auditorium.
  13. Maybe I missed some info on this, but if Blue Note releases a McCoy Tyner RVG, it looks like there won't be a Tyner Mosaic set?
  14. This is one of the two regional german stations which can be received here in Luxembourg, with a normal radio antenna (I don't have a sattelite receiver). Thanks for the tip.
  15. Sony had (or still has) a SACD store on Ebay. Universal is offering a lot of box sets. Maybe the majors are using Ebay to get rid of items which are harder to sell. Some prices (starting bid) are lower than in other online stores (the Bill Evans Verve box is $214, $250 at CD Universe).
  16. I bought the Freddie Hubbard at Zweiausendeins in Munich this week (and 20 other CDs, those 5-7 Euro prices are so dangerous ) "First light" is softer and less funky than "Red Clay" and "Straight life" and has strings arrangements. Good tunes and not cheesy at all. I knew the album before and would not have bought it if it was just OK. I definitely recommend it. There is a long live version of the title track as a bonus. The sound is very good, although the new CTI CDs are not as spectacularly improved as other Sony jazz remasters. I've also checked Milt Jackson "Sunflower" and found it enjoyable but not memorable. The same for Stanley Turrentine "Salt song", which is lacking the funky drive of "Sugar". If you are a big fan of the CTI style you will want them, but if you only need the best albums you can pass on those. The Desmond albums look interesting, but I haven't heard them.
  17. Happy birthday Daniel, and all the best for the future
  18. The best CD writing software for audio CDs I know is Feurio. With other programs (Easy CD Creator, WinOnCD) I often had clicking errors on my CDs, even with reduced writing speed (4x). But Feurio is much more reliable. I use it to copy complete CDs (ripping function is included) or to create compilations. It also imports MP3s and has a cover editor. It may look a bit too complicated for non-experts, because Feurio is one of the most advanced cd writer programs and has many features and setting which most users won't need. But it is definitely worth trying for the reliability alone. It is non-limited shareware, there is only a nag-screen that has to be clicked away.
  19. The Mulligan box is supposed to be available everywhere in Europe. Brownie, if you order from amazon.de, the french VAT will be applied (+5% approximately). You can see the shipping charges on the Delivery page, but I don't know if a 4CD box set counts as 1CD or 4CDs.
  20. That's a great price, especially when shipping is free (to DE, AUT, CH, LU).
  21. The LP is very rare because it had to be withdrawn soon after the release. I have heard it and as far as I can remember those singles are only edits of material that has been released on official LPs from that time (On the Corner, Big fun). For completists only.
  22. This is a backup copy of the links I posted on the AAJ board, just in case ... 23. Zweitausendeins in Germany sells a lot of these for 6.99 Euro. The regular price in Europe is 10 Euro.
  24. November + December Sorry about the large format
