  1. I received the calendar today from Amazon.de. The 12 photograhies are in LP size, the print quality is very good. There is a small hole at the top. I have scanned the small reproductions at the back. January: Freddie Hubbard February: Baby Face Willette
  2. Was that an email by Classic Records? There is no info on their website.
  3. Strange that they still release audiophile CD versions when there is the possibility to make hybrid SACDs. I already have the Bill Evans on XRCD and the Wes Montgomery on a DCC disc, maybe I will get the Monk & Mulligan, which I have in a cheapo Monk Riverside box from Zweitausendeins.
  4. I would like to see some Gil Melle back in circulation.
  5. Good news! I mean the availability of Savoy on iTunes, not the Charlie Parker Remix project. Will they charge 99 Cents for every track? That would be $100 for the complete Charlie Parker Savoy sessions including alternates
  6. Bob Mintzer is mainly known amongst hifi fans, as he records for the audiophile DMP label. I've never heard his music. www.bobmintzer.com www.dmprecords.com
  7. I only got to listen to the Conn today (I knew the music from a mp3 copy of the Mosaic before). I´m dissapointed about the sound quality of the CD. Very muffled, recessed soundstage and lacking dynamics. Don't know if it is the recording (late 60's BN sessions never sounded great on record) or McMasters remastering. My CD is the US pressing, not the copycontrolled EU one. That being said, it is my favourite "spacey" Young session (for me "Unity" and "Into something" is the classic Larry Young).
  8. I second "Expansions", in case we never get a McCoy Mosaic. Other suggestions: - Jackie McLean - Demon's dance - Tony Williams - Spring - Bobby Hutcherson - Oblique
  9. I have this set too and highly recommend it. It is one of the best of the Laserlight/Delta music box sets of "Europe 1" concerts, together with the Miles/Trane concert. The Mulligan set has now also been released on a hybrid SACD, which is very surprising for a budget label. I would not bet on a noticeable sound quality improvement though. Amazon Germany sells the SACD for 17 Euro (the 2CD set is 10 Euro). Other SACD titles include Armstrong, Ellington, Adderley and Peterson concerts from the series: http://www.deltamusic.de/sacd.php For a complete listing of the "Europe 1" series, download the Jazz flyer from Delta Music: http://www.deltamusic.de/neuh.php
  10. Mundo Japan lists the TOCJ too ($19), but the page has not been updated since 2001. http://www.mediawars.ne.jp/~mundo/collect/...washington.html
  11. TIL HAMINGJU MEÐ AFMÆLIÐ, Chris
  12. jazzmatazz lists the Miles Davis "Live at the Cellar Door" 6CD set (3x2CD sets exactly) as being released in spring 2004 I was just made aware that the set has already leaked into filesharing networks, so it must be ready for production. It does not look like a fake. Maybe promo sets will be out soon (Jack Johnson promo sets were distributed almost half a year before the official release) Here is the discographical info:
  13. I would rather expect a SACD version of the album only. BTW, "Bitches brew" is now scheduled for SACD release.
  14. As I was posting this I discover the news that Roy will probably remain paralized, because part of his brain was injured during the attack or the operation 'Skull surgery' for magician Roy (BBC)
  15. Catesta, the whole website where you copied the picture link from seems to be under maintainance, that's where the login box comes from: http://www.darwenstheory.net BTW, ex-governor Gray's new job:
  16. Who banned?
  17. I can see it now, but the first time a read this thread it could not get loaded by my brwoser.
  18. I can't see your avatar either, EKE. Better upload it to the organissimo server.
  19. I just received this set from CD Universe, and was only able to sample it for the technical quality. The sound on the CD is very good (mono), as most of the french radio "Europe 1" recordings, now available on Delta Music 2CD sets. The picture quality on the DVD is also rather good. A funny thing is that is has not been taken from original archive tapes but must have been recorded recently from the french TV station M6, which in a weekly jazz program "Jazz 6" often showed rare historical recordings. The M6 logo has been left on the DVD picture No credits as to the source in the notes. From the picture quality it could even be a home VHS recording. The sound is typical TV quality. All in all very enjoyable performance. I have some VHS tapes with 1960's jazz concerts (Dexter Gordon, Coleman Hawkins) that I taped from M6 in the mid 90's. I also have one with a Monk TV performance from Paris May 13, 1966, which would have fitted well on the DVD.
  20. The european EMI CDs use the Cactus Datashield CDS200 copy protection. You can easily find detailed and independent info by doing a web search. Unfortunately, providing information on ways to circumvent copy protection is illegal in the US (DMCA) and in the EU (new copyright directive). But you will be able to find it. The shift key trick does NOT work with CDS The owner of CDS -Macrovision-, says it does not affect sound quality. I haven't yet seen any independent comparision of protected and unprotected CDs, although this could easily be done, as the same titles are still unprotected in the US. It probably depends on the way the CD player copes with errors on the disc.
  21. Mike, why not order in the US? I received the Hill and Young Conns yesterday from CD Universe ($12.59), together with two other CDs. I had no customs tax to pay (I usually order 3-4 CDs and the customs let most of those small packages pass, although the value is over the 19 Euro limit for which tax is due). So with shipping costs added, one Conn cost me $15 (=13 Euro), which is less than the price of the copyprotected Conns from Amazon.de (15.99 Euro). Had the customs charged me (19% tax in my country), the cost per disc would have been 15.6 Euro, same as the local price. For uncrippled CDs, available 2 weeks before the european release.
  22. The reworking of AMG is underway. Discographies are now reversed (newest albums first)
