  1. Actually found the Mingus DVD a little lackluster. Don't get me wrong - it was great to see this group on stage (also the jams w/G Mulligan and B Bailey), but there seemed to be a lack of energy somehow. I gotta give props to Don Pullen, though. He was smokin' - particularly on "Sue's Changes".

  5. The downstairs part of the Village Gate is still a club. I saw Mort Sahl there last year. The Keystone Korner is a now Chinese grocery store, I believe.
  6. I just started using this service. So far it's really good. There are quite a few music DVDs available and I have a lot lined up in my queue. Does anyone have any particularly outstanding MUSIC (jazz or otherwise) videos to recommend? FWIW, I currently have on hand Mingus at Montreux 1975 (w/Pullen, Adams, Richmond & Walrath). Should be great.

  9. I have 42! Then again, I'm constantly maxing out my 100 album allotment in my eMusic "Save for later" page.

  11. They've been adding stuff formerly on "Label M" but now on the Hyena Records / Kufala Recordings label. Not only the previously mentioned Getz and Rich albums, but they just added a Rahsaan album "The Man Who Cried Fire" which AMG gave a RAVE review. Also, Joe Williams "Havin' A Good Time" and T.S. Monk "Higher Ground".

  13. I think I have that album in a box somewhere. I'll have to dig it out and listen to it again.

  21. After seeing that show I found myself completely re-evaluating Led Zep. I never really liked them after their 2nd album. But now after all these years, I'm giving them another chance and ordered the "How The West Was Won" and "Physical Graffiti" albums.
  22. FWIW, both the Joe Gordon and Jimmy Woods albums are available on eMusic. I downloaded them quite a while ago. Definitely give my thumbs up, too.
  23. I saw him on Charlie Rose last week, and I thought he looked pretty good for an aging rocker, actually. His new album is supposed to be his best, as well. Meanwhile.......I may have to get that LZ II remaster.

I think these are available and would be my favorites from the 70's. Really strong jazz/fusion/funk........in a GOOD way, though. Southern Comfort Chain Reaction These were Larry Carlton's best years, too.
