I have that first Dreams album and Compost's "Life is Round". Dreams is a jazz/rock group in the BS&T mold. Compost is more of a jazz group with pop sensibilities. Jack plays drums on only 3 cuts, but it doesn't really matter. It's the whole group sound - not an outing for solo features. Other musicians on this date (besides Jack & Harold) are: Bob Moses, Jumma Santos, Jack Gregg, Roland Prince, Ed Finny, Lou Courtney & Jeanne Lee.

Speaking of Hendrix, Winwood does play on Electric Ladyland. He also shows up on a rather obscure King Crimson offshoot project called "McDonald & Giles". Then again, there's always Stomu Yamashta's "Go" with Winwood & Michael Shrieve (there's your Santana connection!)

I could be wrong, but I think he was the guitar player on "Fernwood 2-Night" with Martin Mull & Fred Willard.

Gary Winogrand is one of my all-time favorites of the "street" school of shooting.

Charlie Rose's PBS show is re-playing a 2000 hour-long interview tonight.

I dunno about the vocals. They're kinda scary, actually. She's so off-key.......and not in a "good way", either. +++ I have the "Nine to the Universe" Jimi album. The personnel on "Young/Hendrix" is: Jimi Larry Billy Cox - Bass Mitch Mitchell - Drums Recorded at the Record Plant-NY, 5/14/69. It's not wildly exciting, like you would hope that it would be, but I'm glad I have it. I think there are one or two others in the "Jimi Hendrix Experience" box that came out a few years ago.

I know a couple of people who have gotten a fair price for a sizable amount of records at Amoeba. But maybe that's the exception.

Sometimes a second-hand record store will give you a decent price on an entire collection.

Hey! What's wrong with 42 MPG? I would get a Prius in a flash. It's definitely my next car. As mentioned previously, the Honda Insight is a s m a l l 2-seater, which explains the 60MPG. I've also heard that the Honda Civic hybrid doesn't get as good mileage as the Prius. It uses different technology which is not as efficient in the city. On top of everything else, I believe that there are tax breaks for hybrids, too.

That Cobham album is a classic of sorts. Fusion-y, but not obnoxious. Currently: Cecil McBee w/Chico Freeman - "Compassion". The title tune is a MONSTER.

This was a group that was DEFINITELY better than the individual parts, as we have seen since they broke up. None has done anything significant or interesting since. It's a shame, because the instrumental trio by itself was rock solid and probably could have continued on - even with another singer. "Hatful of Hollow" is a great album, for sure. Maybe their best overall.

I somehow knew that the Mosaic would be a good catch - before it went OOP - even though I wasn't very familiar with his music. So I picked it up and glad that I did. A great collection, for sure.

Speaking of Marshall Crenshaw..........amazingly, he's now touring as part of the current MC5 reunion tour.

Is it twenty dollars great? That's half a Select. Yes - it is a great set. It's also now OOP. I think it can still be found in retail outlets, though. Try to grab a copy, if you are a TV fan.
