Yeah - I have that one too. It's a weird set because it was when MCA owned the rights. Besides the rather worthless "Ultimate Experience" disk, they created new covers for each album (although they did print the original on the reverse side of the booklet). They had extensive liner notes and a set of "collectors stamps" within each booklet, too. I keep thinking I'm going to dump this one and re-buy the newer Eddie Kramer remasters someday. ... someday.

Yeah...........it's DRY heat!

I can't believe that I still don't have that "Experience" box. Maybe I'll break down and pick it up on my next Amoeba run. There's a fun (but flawed - selection-wise, I think) box from Rhino called "Cowabunga - The Surf Box", which is - DUH! - a collection of instrumental surf tunes. I believe that it's OOP, but probably turns up in the used stores periodically.

Ditto pretty much everything that RainyDay said. This hot Bay Area weather SUCKS! To top it off, my landlord decided to do repairs on my shower last week ... and, of course, they haven't finished yet. So, I can't even take an afternoon shower to cool down. I've been traveling to the gym and a friend's house for morning showers.

I never noticed that he was on all of those. SMOKIN' for sure!

I have a bunch of Muse stuff: David Schnitter - "Thundering", "Goliath" Sam Jones - "Something in Common" Clifford Jordan - "Night of the Mark VII" Several Mark Murphy's Cedar Walton - "Eastern Rebellion", "Breakthrough" (previously on Cobblestone) Woody Shaw - "Lovedance", "The Moontrane", "Live at the Berliner Jazztage" Ricky Ford - "Tenor for the Times" Art Blakey - "In My Prime, Vol. 1" (on Timeless Muse) Larry Coryell - "Equipoise" Charles Earland - "Mama Roots", "Infant Eyes" There are probably others. I find that I get Muse albums confused with Inner City (Irv Kratka's label) albums.

Interesting. Good price, too - $30. Limited edition of 5,000. Might have to pick that one up.

That Gary Bartz disk is great. I always loved those 2 albums. You might want to track down the BGP import of this, because the Milestone release left off one tune. I got mine from Dusty Groove and they still list it, but also that it's "Out of Stock".
-
I have that album and was actually at the show, too! Part of a summer jazz series at the W79th Street Rotunda (near the marina) in NYC. Also saw George Coleman and Clifford Jordan (not together).

Of course the fact that the set is immensely enjoyable and entertaining has nothing to do with it. B-)

Didn't realize that "Relaxin'" wasn't in the box. As I said.....I don't have it myself. Anyway, it seems that for the "right" price it's certainly worth picking up.

What non-music magazines do you subscribe to??
BFrank replied to Rooster_Ties's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
I've pretty much eliminated magazines altogether, as I get enough of that "periodical" information online now. Still get The Nation, Smart Money, Consumer Reports, Consumer Reports MoneyAdvisor and some magazines from Environmental groups like Audubon, Nature Conservancy, etc. Oh, yeah......my girlfriend always passes on her copies of The New Yorker when she's finished. They tend to pile up and then I'll read a whole bunch at once. -
I almost wrote something like that, but when I looked up his bio on AMG, it said that he started his professional career in the late 50's. So........I guess he "counts".
-
OTOH, Kenny Barron is definitely still around. I think Reggie Workman just barely squeaks in here, too.
-
They're both still here, b3-er.......and active! In fact, Hank just played here last May at the SF Jazz Fest with Clark Terry.

I'll have to take another listen to that 2nd side! I didn't mean that they sounded like BS&T, but there was that jazz/rock/horn sound that a number of groups were experimenting with at the time. Others would be Chicago (of course), Chase, Sons of Champlin ...
-
I have that first Dreams album and Compost's "Life is Round". Dreams is a jazz/rock group in the BS&T mold. Compost is more of a jazz group with pop sensibilities. Jack plays drums on only 3 cuts, but it doesn't really matter. It's the whole group sound - not an outing for solo features. Other musicians on this date (besides Jack & Harold) are: Bob Moses, Jumma Santos, Jack Gregg, Roland Prince, Ed Finny, Lou Courtney & Jeanne Lee.

Looks like it might be an oboe: +++ Rejoyce (Grace Slick) Chemical change like a laser beam You've shattered the warning amber light Make me warm Let me see you moving everything over Smiling in my room You know you'll be inside of my mind soon. There are so many of you. White shirt and tie, white shirt and tie, white shirt and tie Wedding ring, wedding ring. Mulligan stew for Bloom, The only Jew in the room Saxon's sick on the holy dregs And their constant getting throw up on his leg. Molly's gone to blazes, Boylan's crotch amazes Any woman whose husband sleeps With his head all buried down at the foot of his bed. [Oboe solo] I've got his arm. I've got his arm. I've had it for weeks. I've got his arm. Steven won't give his arm To no gold star mother's farm; War's good business, so give your son And I'd rather have my country die for me. There are so many of you. Sell your mother for a Hershey bar Grow up looking like a car, There are; All you want to do is live, All you want to do is give, But, somehow, it all falls apart!
