  1. Well, that's good AND bad news. - Good, because it makes available some of the long OOP, music from this great group of musicians. - Bad, because I already own those disks so there's nothing really to look forward to on this release. (but maybe that's good because I will save $39 B) )
  2. It's also a great place to meet people. Unless you are a party of 4, you will probably have to share a table or booth with someone else. You always end up talking.
  3. Besides that "Impulse!!!" album, there are the Riverside disks - "Ugetsu", "Kyoto" and "Caravan" that are must-haves.
  4. Barry and the Remains are great. Seek out a good comp. They're out there and they're great! I'll do that!
  5. I much prefer the Memphis sound over Motown. So I'm behind this all the way.... "Hang 'em High", BABY! B)
  6. I only know the couple of Remains tunes from the "Nuggets" box, but those certainly are GREAT!
  7. "Breakthrough" and "Song Everlasting" are the 2 Don Pullen/George Adams Quartet BN dates. There are a number of "solo" Adams and Pullen albums on BN, but I would suspect that the Select box would only be the Quartet. This group seemed to go under the name George Adams/Don Pullen Quartet on the other labels. Same combo no matter what - Cameron Brown and Dannie Richmond round it out. Which reminds me, I have an album on HORO under Richmond's name with Pullen, Adams, Jack Walrath, David Friesen, Irio de Paula and Afonso Vieira. Could they ben including that, too? Should be interesting.
  8. You can turn OFF the laugh track? I wonder how many other sit-com DVDs let you do that? What a great idea!
  9. Hey 7/4, how IS that, anyway. Brakhage is the Cecil Taylor of filmmaking. Haven't seen anything of his since college film class, but was always impressed.
  10. So, how does it SOUND compared to the earlier release?
  11. This is VERY exciting. I would assume that the BNs would be there, but what else to fill out 3 CDs? Did they get licensing from Soul Note or Timeless? Is there unreleased BN stuff? That would REALLY make the set, if so.
  12. Hey! Speak for yourself. I live here because it so RARELY gets hot. I like the cool weather. ... and the fog is GREAT. Bring it ON!
  13. Some more added today: Richard Groove Holmes - "On Basie's Bandstand" Oscar Peterson - "Dimensions" (4 Disks) Cal Tjader - "Cuban Fantasy" Several new vocal albums, too, from Mark Murphy, Carol Sloane, Curtis Stigers, Barbara Cook and Jo Stafford.

    BLOW UP on DVD

Whoa, Mike - - - - - chill out! I picked up the DVD myself, recently (it's one of my favorite films). I just haven't had the chance to pull it out and listen/watch yet. So, does it have a separate "music" only track that you can listen to like a CD, or is it the whole film with just the music (without dialog and other sounds) on the audio channel?
  15. There's this album listed under Coltrane's name, but it's really a group effort: "Interplay for 2 Trumpets and 2 Tenors" Here's Yanow's AMG review: Although generally reissued under John Coltrane's name, the most significant musician on this CD is pianist Mal Waldron who contributed four of the five complex compositions including the original version of "Soul Eyes"; Jimmy Heath's "C.T.A." is also performed. Coltrane teams up with fellow tenor Bobby Jaspar, trumpeters Idrees Sulieman and Webster Young, guitarist Kenny Burrell, bassist Paul Chambers, drummer Art Taylor and either Waldron or Red Garland on piano. With so many soloists present on this advanced hard bop date, Coltrane is only one star among many although he does emerge as the standout. — Scott Yanow
  16. eMusic just added this 4CD set: The Modern Jazz Quartet: The Complete Modern Jazz Quartet Prestige And Pablo Recordings
  17. JM, you have a MUCH better chance of enjoying your CDs than you do of winning the lottery! B) A wise investment.
  18. I thought this wasn't due out until the Fall, but I did a search here and it was in fact due to be released this month. So..........where is it??? Also, CD Universe notes that it has 3 bonus tracks. If it does, it's not the ones that they listed. Those are all on the "original" 2 CD set. It appears that they have re-ordered the tunes, though.
  19. Winwood was on "Dave" last night. He did "Cigano" from his latest album. It was smokin'!
  20. The Thad Jones is a great set. It grows on you. So if your first impression is muted, repeated listenings will bring out the gems here. I have seen this one going for less, but then again, you would have to wait indefinitely. ENJOY!
  21. Red Grape Sorbet 2 cups red grape juice ¾ cup sugar Juice of 2 lemons Heat 1 cup grape juice with sugar. Bring to boil. Cool, then mix in rest of grape juice and lemon juice. Refrigerate. When completely cold, freeze in ice cream maker according to manufacturer’s instructions.
  22. OK. OK. I'll look for it. It does have an interesting "cast of characters". B)
