  1. I downloaded the Goldings last night. Haven't listened to it yet. FYI - on the Palmetto web site, they have a bunch of Free Downloads that are otherwise unreleased. Some very cool stuff including Andrew Hill, described as follows: "Andrew's "A Beautiful Day" live sessions involved a great deal of editing in order to be able to present all of the tunes on one CD. Here are the complete unedited versions of 2 pieces that are on the CD." Check it out!

  3. It has been mentioned by a BB moderator on eMusic that they will be adding the Palmetto label soon. Very cool.
  4. "Fuerst Set" and "Second Set" are both available as MP3 downloads on eMusic. Also, his Concord albums and "The Return Of Tal Farlow / 1969" on Fantasy/Prestige.
  5. Looks like a good series this year: Stanford Jazz Festival Especially, check out the following! SUN, August 1 - PHINEAS NEWBORN PIANO TRIBUTE • James Williams (piano), Geoffrey Keezer (piano), Harold Mabern (piano), Ray Drummond (bass), Jimmy Cobb (drums)
  6. That's hysterical! For some reason, everytime I hear his name, the first thing that pops in my mind is "Sam Rreeeeeeevers"
  7. Listened to "Basic" with Fred Maher tonight. An interesting and under-rated album.
  8. This was a great group. I believe they only put out 2 albums - "New Directions" and "New Directions in Europe". Both highly recommended by me, for sure. AMG just gives the mediocre reviews, but I think they were much more interesting and introspective than that.
  9. PBS is showing an American Masters from last year about Robert Capa right now.
  10. This is EXCELLENT!! Two great albums. In fact, "Pointed Little Head" is one of my all-time favorite live rock albums. Can't wait.
  11. Hendrix - "Loose Ends", French release.
  12. Do you have the Gerald Wilson Mosaic? That's got some smokin' West Coast music on it as well as great players like Teddy Edwards and Harold Land. ... and it's still in print!
  13. Update 5/29 Something's been fixed. It's MUCH faster now!
  14. I always thought this was a great jazz photo.
  15. I guess Mosaic changed their mind. Maybe they noticed they have too much inventory. So I can buy it cheaper $37.50 from CDUniverse, than Mosaic ($39.00). Oh, yeahhhhhhhhhhh. You save a big $1.50!
  16. Right. I thought I read recently that Mosaic was NOT going to offer Selects to retail outlets after all.
  17. Cecil McBee - "Compassion"
  18. I saw the film about a month ago. It was a good documentary on the history of the band. Some great footage, too. Supposedly the DVD will have complete songs. A "must-have" for sure.
  19. What does he sound like these days?
  20. Here's a post from another BBS from the guy who books Yoshi's: Elvin was in pretty bad shape at Yoshi's. It was very disturbing to see this powerful man so diminished. I do not know what is wrong with him and don't want to speculate. I do know that he was on oxygen, and is having dialysis. I really cannot imagine him playing and touring anymore, but he's a strong man. You never know.
  21. Just arrived from BMG today: Jeff Beck - "Truth", "Beck Ola" Santana - "Caravanserai", "Welcome" BS&T - "Child Is Father to the Man"
  22. That is correct - not metal.
  23. Here's the email that went out in February: +++
