  1. I still don't understand "where's the love" for Wes? Those albums with Mel Rhyne were "boss"!!
  2. About Klark Kent - I believe I heard the first one and it was pretty good. It's been a long time, though. Here is another one that I like a lot: Includes some nice vocals by Stan (Wall of Voodoo) Ridgway.
  3. I definitely recommend the Doug Carn sets on BJ. "Adams Apple" is my favorite - a real solid outing all the way around.
  4. You certainly should look into picking up members, don't git weary. With a lineup of Stanley Cowell, Charles Tolliver, Jymie Merritt, Gary Bartz and some vocals by Andy Bey, this is a must-have.
  5. Another thumbs up for that Darryl Hall album, "Sacred Songs" produced by Robert Fripp. Here's a few more ...

    Don Ellis

Reading Jim's last post reminded me of Maynard Ferguson's "MF Horn 4&5 - Live at Jimmy's" set. Another album that has never seen CD production that fits well into that 60's-70's big band resurgence.
  7. C'mon! Let's give it up for Wes!
  8. Mike - Sorry you didn't like it. Maybe it needs to be played straight through.....at least once, to get the full effect. It's just a loose enjoyable album, IMO. I thought I should have seen him this past Sunday at the Fillmore, but didn't make it. It was probably a lot of fun.

    Don Ellis

Don Ellis as Abe Lincoln??? Interesting about "Electric Bath". You know.....I've had vinyl of that for probably 25 years and have hardly ever listened to it. Maybe now's the time! I also have the Fillmore set, which is a whole LOT of fun! Why has this never been on CD? The other one I have is "Soaring" on MPS/BASF which(if I remember) has a number of really nice tunes on it.
  10. Maybe because Silent Way was only 3 CDs? That's my guess ...
  11. How so?? (I mean "what do you mean?".) They all seem similar (in some ways), and unique in other ways. I think GregK may be referring to the metal binding? I haven't seen the new box yet. Is the spine made of metal? Just arrived on my desk minutes ago. The packaging is the same "metal-binding" style as "BB", "Miles & Coltrane", etc.
  12. What??!!! Damn man, get the new one. Get it! You won't be disappointed. wesbed - I'm sure I will pick it up eventually, but for now I have them on "hold".
  13. Let's see..........one Lee Morgan at $279.95 and another at $89. I wonder which on I would bid on??? HHmmmmmmm ......
  14. I'm afraid I have to put Steely Dan on the list. One reason I haven't bothered to get the new one. I'm kinda 'played out' on their sound.
  15. Nice to know. I've come close to buying that Nancy/Cannonball CD several times. I'll have to do a little better next time I shop.
  16. Well, the Hill box sold for $187.50. A decent price, I must say. Looks like the days of "out of sight" bidding may be over for a while (except for 'ntumc', of course).
  17. Just got an email from CD Universe that it shipped TODAY!!! YOWZA!!
  18. There's lots of stuff with Thad besides the couple under his own name: - Elvin Jones - "Elvin!" - Dexter Gordon - "Ca' Purange", "Tangerine" - Thelonious Monk - "5 by Monk by 5" ... to name a few.
  19. Apparently they WERE hacked again. Geeeeeeeeeeeeeeez!
  20. Just picked up "Jazz Noise". Looking forward to hearing this whole thing. Have heard a lot of great things about it.
  21. Anyone looking for Andrew Hill Mosaic, there's one sitting there with less than a day to go at $125. ** Disclaimer: I have no affiliation with the seller.
  22. STILL down. I wonder if they got hit again?
