  1. Laugher in Wrigley tonight. GREAT! I need a break from all these nail-biters.
  2. If you're into MP3s, you could join EMusic. They have "Spectrum" as well as most of the Fantasy/Prestige/Milestone/Riverside catalog. Actually, you could just do the 50-tune free trial and pay nothing for it.
  3. Quite honestly, they should be reported to ebay. These are misleading listings and compromise the search system.
  4. Andrew Hill - "Point of Departure"
  5. The BN web site has the new Conns "on sale" for $13.98. I suspect the reason is that the Conns are not commercially appealing, for the most part. Still, it seems odd that the pricing is so different.
  6. Actually, I think the Oakland A's have become the Atlanta Braves of the playoffs.
  7. I used to burn CD-Rs and make jewel case covers, but ever since I got my Archos 20 Recorder, I just d/l everything onto that. If I want to play any of that stuff at home, I can hook it up to the system and play it that way.
  8. Yeah, DrJ - "weak" IS the right term for the Bay Area teams! Oakland has become the Atlanta Braves of the West (or the Braves of the AL, whichever you prefer)
  9. I'm tellin' ya' guys.............Wes & Mel, man.........Wes and Mel.

    Billy Harper

couw - you found a CD version of "The Loadstar"???

    Billy Harper

It would be great to see Max's "The Loadstar" released on CD, but I'm not holding my breath.
  12. CUBS WIN! CUBS WIN!
  13. My thoughts exactly.
  14. I still don't understand "where's the love" for Wes? Those albums with Mel Rhyne were "boss"!!
  15. About Klark Kent - I believe I heard the first one and it was pretty good. It's been a long time, though. Here is another one that I like a lot: Includes some nice vocals by Stan (Wall of Voodoo) Ridgway.
  16. I definitely recommend the Doug Carn sets on BJ. "Adams Apple" is my favorite - a real solid outing all the way around.
  17. You certainly should look into picking up members, don't git weary. With a lineup of Stanley Cowell, Charles Tolliver, Jymie Merritt, Gary Bartz and some vocals by Andy Bey, this is a must-have.
  18. Another thumbs up for that Darryl Hall album, "Sacred Songs" produced by Robert Fripp. Here's a few more ...

    Don Ellis

Reading Jim's last post reminded me of Maynard Ferguson's "MF Horn 4&5 - Live at Jimmy's" set. Another album that has never seen CD production that fits well into that 60's-70's big band resurgence.
  20. C'mon! Let's give it up for Wes!
  21. Mike - Sorry you didn't like it. Maybe it needs to be played straight through.....at least once, to get the full effect. It's just a loose enjoyable album, IMO. I thought I should have seen him this past Sunday at the Fillmore, but didn't make it. It was probably a lot of fun.
  22. I have a book called "The Intriguers" that's a collection of "four superb novels of suspense": - Passage of Arms - State of Siege - The Schirmer Inheritance - Judgment on Deltchev To be honest, I can't remember reading any of them. I got this from my father, but held on to it because it looked so good.

    Don Ellis

Don Ellis as Abe Lincoln??? Interesting about "Electric Bath". You know.....I've had vinyl of that for probably 25 years and have hardly ever listened to it. Maybe now's the time! I also have the Fillmore set, which is a whole LOT of fun! Why has this never been on CD? The other one I have is "Soaring" on MPS/BASF which(if I remember) has a number of really nice tunes on it.
  24. Maybe because Silent Way was only 3 CDs? That's my guess ...
  25. How so?? (I mean "what do you mean?".) They all seem similar (in some ways), and unique in other ways. I think GregK may be referring to the metal binding? I haven't seen the new box yet. Is the spine made of metal? Just arrived on my desk minutes ago. The packaging is the same "metal-binding" style as "BB", "Miles & Coltrane", etc.
