  1. This seems amazing to me. What took them so long?? I think they're going to find that THIS is what music buyers are waiting for. Who knows, they might even have to consider going lower on the list price. Maybe it will even spark a price "war". Anyway, it's a start. I still remember buying records for $2.79 (+tax = $3). We'll never see that again, but this is certainly a step in the right direction.
  2. I have always been a fan of "Enlightenment" and "Atlantis" myself. They are very high intensity live sessions, but I think he was still trying to define himself after Trane. I love "Supertrios", too. Both sessions are really killer - defined more by the different drummers than anything else. In fact, it's a real drumming "tour de force", IMO. Both Tony and Jack were really on during these dates.
  3. It's not a "flimsy" cardboard cover. It's a "heavy-duty" cardboard cover. Works for me, and I don't feel like I'm spending a lot of extra money for an over-designed, clumsy package (like a lot of box sets are these days - Charlie Christian, the rusty Bill Evans set, etc.) Whatever.....it's all about the music anyway. B)
  4. Back to "Blackhawk" Killer album. One of the best of the Miles boxes, I'm thinking. This band is just "on" and the great club atmosphere just adds to the mix. I'm picking disk 3 as my favorite so far, but it's all good and I'll probably be changing my mind later. If you haven't picked this up yet - DO IT TODAY! B)
  5. "What Is This Thing Called Soul?" - a live album from 1960 - is a real treat. It's the classic quintet cooking on all burners!
  6. "Something In Common" is a GREAT album. I didn't realize that it was one of Blue's last appearances.
  7. Not exactly a sideman date, but "Mapenzi" is a seriously great album. I HIGHLY recommend picking this one up. It's a real hardbop burner!
  8. I just discovered a great Wayne session on a Bobby Timmons disk called "Workin' Out". It's 2 sessions, actually, and Wayne is on the second one. It's from 1966 with Timmons, Ron Carter and Jimmy Cobb. Definitely worth checking out.
  9. Good for YOU, Dmitry! I hope you find Vol. 1. It shouldn't be THAT scarce.
  10. Sure it's OOP. Grab it! It's a real, cookin' live club date. Try to round up Vol 1, too!

    Harold Vick

He was pretty good in the early 70's group Compost with Bob Moses, Jack Gregg, Jumma Santos and Jack DeJohnette. I have vinyl of "Live Is Round" which has some nice tunes on it.

    Nat Adderley

This is one of Nat's that I always enjoyed - "A Little New York Midtown Music". Very suave and solid. A first-rate line-up as well: Johnny Griffin, Ron Carter, Victor Feldman and Roy McCurdy.
  13. I went with Clifford, but George was pretty good on the original Eastern Rebellion album. Technically, did Clifford Jordan play with Eastern Rebellion at all? I thought the group was called The Magic Triangle at that time?
  14. I really enjoyed the 2 Neneh Cherry albums that I have. I don't think she's done anything new in quite a while, but those are worth checking out. Of course, being Don Cherry's step-daughter doesn't hurt.
  15. Interesting. Those were the two that I would have mentioned. I don't have a problem with him otherwise. I don't think the releases under his own name otherwise have been particularly interesting or innovative, though. He must be doing something right simply because of all the sessions he's been on.
  16. Just an FYI If you click on the Weekly Specials at the Blue Note site, it appears that pretty much all (if not all) of the RVG catalog is on sale for $8.98 (or $19.98 for doubles). Check it out! Weekly Specials
  17. What are you waiting for? For the players to come down in price? I bet you are a Vinyl guy as well, aren't you? Berigan - Fact of the matter is I really don't watch movies at home. I'm really not interested in all the "extra" crap that they throw on DVDs, either. I pay enought for HBO & Showtime that if I really want to see something at home, I will watch (or tape) something off of one of those - or IFC or Sundance or whatever. I really only use my VHS for taping weekly shows anyway. Nothing I need to keep or see more than once. So, there you go....... BTW, I do have lots of vinyl - but also tons of CDs and MP3's (from EMusic). That's where the REAL entertainment is! B)
  18. Hey - I don't even have a DVD player yet!
  19. Ron is definitely "happening" ... and so is his son!
  20. That WWUH link has this: Airto: eye-air-toe I've seen him live several times (many years ago) and he always told the audience it was EYE-EAR-TOE while simutaneously pointing to the appropriate body part.

    larry coryell

WEIRD is the operative word here.
  22. Do it TODAY!!
  23. So, he's redoing "Viva Tirado" and "Blues For Yna Yna"? Not to mention "Milestones" and "Equinox"? This should be interesting!

    Cecil McBee

I see that Dusty Groove has vinyl of "Free Slave" for $8.99.
